Hines Ward expected to stay on bench

A week off isn’t expected to chance Hines Ward’s spot in the Steelers receiver rotation.

Ward is expected to stay on the bench, according to multiple Pittsburgh newspaper reports this week. Antonio Brown remains a starter. Jerricho Cotchery and possibly Emmanuel Sanders could play ahead of Ward.

“That is to be determined,” coach Mike Tomlin said earlier this week via Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “We will do what is best in terms of giving us an opportunity to win this game.”

Ward would love to get 19 more catches to reach 1,000 for his career, but that’s looking unlikely to happen.

The Beaver County Times also reports that linebacker Lamarr Woodley is expected to miss his third straight game.

    grimey

hines has put his body on the line for this team and come up with 2 rings and 3 trips to the big game…

and this is how they do him?

note to all free agents, this is how pitt does business…

hines = new team in 2012

Ed bouchette is a hack, any Pittsburgh resident will agree with me. Hines will get his 1000 receptions, and he’ll do it in black and gold.

It’s looking more and more like Whines Hard will never recover from that hit when Lewis layed him out a couple weeks back. After the hit, he was helped off the field and watched tweety birds circle his head for the rest of the night. Hasn’t played since.
It’s karma. Except Whines a least saw the hit coming.

@mjbulls45 you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Hines is the best steelers reciever of all time, but he clearly is done. Antonio brown, jerrico cotchery, and emmanuel sanders provide much better options to win. Their not going to keep hines in just because of how great he used to be, its about what you can do now. Oh and by the way, hines=no team in 2012. Hines in 6 years=canton

    Mjbulls,

Love hines, but he’s done. There are 5 legit receivers that are bigger threats on the team including heath. Expect them to get hines his catches though. Steelers play kc and the rams. Assuming they get a lead, its wr screen to ward 5-7 times in the 2nd half

He can get 19 easily in this new passing attack the stealers are running, even if he’s coming off the bench.

    @mvpolamalu:

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’ll just add “and welcome him back home to Georgia” at the end.

He’ll get his 1000! Ben will make sure he gets it as sure as Favre made sure Strahan got his 22nd sack!

Steelers will do Hines Ward right. With 6 games left he can easily get 19 more completions.

The sad fact is that Hines is at the end of the trail. He has been in the league for 14 years and that is LONG time by any standard. We would love to see him for one more year but just because the mind is willing, the body may not be.

Hines has too much pride, he will leave the game with grace and will not be like T.O. who is desperately grasping on to the days that have long gone by.

Hines ward has played a major factor in us owning the ravens for years now! As a steelers fan we all love him! His great knockout blocks will be surely missed as he is in his twilight…After we win the super bowl again this year he shall ride off into steeler nation sunset! As steelers fans chant HALL OF FAME…HALL OF FAME…HALL OF FAME

3 quick WR screens per game for the next 6 = 18 catches
Restructured contract in the offseason to retire a Steeler = 1 catch with an opportunity in 16 games..

Yea, Hines will reach 1,000 catches as a Pittsburgh Steeler

  17. lombardisixpack says: Nov 25, 2011 3:01 PM

I am very sorry to see Mr. Ward go. I think and hope he can reach the 1000 catch, and 12000 yrd plateaus. He was a monster of a player. The best blocking WR in history, and most decorated steeler in history. I have no idea what you whiners are talking about when calling him dirty. Was there any flags when he crushed ed reed, or Bart Scott? He plays like a Steeler on every play in every game. SEE YOU IN CANTON MR. WARD !!!!

If we’d lived in an alternate universe where Ward had played his career out in a Baltimore Ravens uniform instead of destroying Ed Reed in front of millions of people on Monday Night Football, you all would jock him like you do RayRay. Dude’s made a career of coming through with big catches, throwing nasty blocks, and smiling the entire time. Get over it.
