Adrian Peterson ruled out for Falcons game

Adrian Peterson AP

There wasn’t a lot of mystery to Adrian Peterson’s status this week despite Peterson telling Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune during the week that he would play.

The Vikings made it official on Saturday, downgrading Peterson to out when he didn’t make the team flight to Atlanta. Peterson suffered a high ankle sprain with some ligament damage against the Raiders last week.

Toby Gerhart will start at running back for the Vikings.  Lorenzo Booker and Percy Harvin figure to pick up snaps in the Vikings backfield.

There were durability concerns about Peterson coming out of college, but this will only be the fourth missed game of his five-year career.

Nothing lost here, unless you have him on your fantasy team. Shut him down all you can Frazier, and start planning for 2012. Should be interesting to see what Gerhart does in a non-ground and pound situation like they have been using him in the past.

OFCOURSE he’s gonna have a high ankle sprain during my fantasy playoff run the year I draft him, after watching him not get hurt and win championships for the most recent 3 previous owners.

It not like AP being out is going to hurt the chances of the vikequeens beating Alt.

Can you imagine how disgusted Peterson is being stuck playing for Mn?

@eaglesnoles05 – Pretty sure he was hurt last year during playoff time…

Although I do get a kick out of:”There were durability concerns about Peterson coming out of college, but this will only be the fourth missed game of his five-year career.” Gotta give him kudo’s for that. He’s a beast and not playing him is smart.Good Luck AP!!

It’d be crazy to play him and risk additional damage; save him for next season. Vikes have nothing to play for except pride during a lost season and the FO wants a higher draft pick.

Yeah, so disgusted he just signed a 7 year contract. He must HATE it there…

This game is going to be a blowout

  9. jimmysee says: Nov 26, 2011 1:19 PM

He’s had an amazing career — really, the only consistent weapon the Vikes have.

  10. eaglesnoles05 says: Nov 26, 2011 1:22 PM

@tritz42- you’re right; he didn’t win it last year. The 2 years prior the team that had him won it, not the last 3 yrs.

  11. gb4mn0 says: Nov 26, 2011 1:58 PM

What top tier player in their RIGHT mind would want to play in MN? What about this team that’s attractive to other players to want to play in MN? It can’t be the Metrodump or their prospects of being in the playoffs in the next few seasons and it certainly can’t be the Helga hat wearing gender benders in their fan base. The only explanation has to be they just ain’t right upstairs.

The Vikings will still make the playoffs.

    … if they draft well.

    Maybe.

With Musgrave calling the plays it doesn’t matter who is on the field. He is awful.

Frazier is good with people but the team quit on him completely vs the Packers.

This is a Les Steckel type season.

Tice was fired after going 9-7. Frazier has had this team for 6 games last year & all of this year. He isn’t getting it done. If they are going to keep Frazier for another chance then please hire a D coordinator & O coordinater that are experienced.

    Musgrave has to go.

Gonna put a lot of pressure on me to bust out a great motivational speech to my fantasy players on the team conference call tonight with my best player out now

AP is becoming more average, than above average.

  17. rgledz says: Nov 26, 2011 5:35 PM

Hey Bengal, newsflash dumba$$, he’s top 3 in the league in rushing and leads the league in rushing TD’s. I’ll take those “average” stats all day long.

Gb4mn0 you must have been beaten up by a Vikings fan to have so much hatred.

I like my teams logo and mascot better than a big G for gay and my name be fudge packers.

i hate how typical obnoxious packers fans use stories like this to just bash the vikings…what top tier player would want to play in GB? a tiny hick farm town in the middle of nowhere that got lucky enough to get an NFL franchise…at least in the Twin Cities, we got stuff to do in a busy metropolitan area, especially a night life…go eat some cheese and drool over aaron rodgers some more…

My deep seated loathing for all you purple excrement balls comes from years of listening to PA on the 9 to noon.

You envious dolts use that station as a platform to launch into your mealy mouthed insolant attacks against the your hated enemy to the east(WI in general) just to enjoy a short lived moral victory. But until the history field between the 13 time Champs and your lavender chumps is leveled, that’s all you’re going to have. So go ahead and giggle inside like the mean little girls you are when you hear another one of your sorry pitos(spanish word) insult the Pack and it’s faitful cause you ain’t gonna be skoling no Lombardi anytime soon…………. tontos.

  21. lnfinite says: Nov 27, 2011 1:04 AM

Packer fans typically trash talk their rivals threads and then whine because we provide retribution when one of their players gets negative publicity.

Their fans brag when their team does well and hide under the beds when their team lays a turd. Such is a cheesehead mentality and why they are such an incredible joke.

Serious note – considering the season is doen for the Vikes it is better to rest AP and let Toby carry the load. I remember last year TG did just fine in a win over the Redskins. Falcons are a much tougher test but for real purple fans we want to see any kind of improvement just like how Ponder has progressing.

  22. lovemyqueens says: Nov 27, 2011 2:35 AM

Should just rest him for the season. No need to put him back in the lineup so soon with that kinda injury.

I’m all for AP continuing to keep up the rushing TD lead in the league, but I’d rather him be 100% next season and split touches between Toby and Lorenzo. At worst they lose more games, at best those two will help their stock for next year.

here’s a thought — change the channel, or does the warden only allow one station to be played during shower time with the rest of your “Packers”…
