As of Friday morning, it appeared that Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb had a good chance to return from a case of turf toe that has shelved him for the last three games. It’s now not so clear.
Officially, the Cardinals have listed Kolb questionable, which technically means his availability is coin-flip proposition.
On Friday, backup John Skelton spoke about “moving forward,” and that he hoped to “redeem” himself after a very bad performance against the 49ers, according to the Arizona Republic. Kolb, in contrast, didn’t speak to reporters.
Still, Skelton may not get his chance. Absent news that Kolb hasn’t made the trip to St. Louis (a common occurrence for players listed as questionable who aren’t going to play), Kolb remains possibly available to play.
At many levels, it doesn’t matter. Neither the Cardinals nor the Rams will be playing beyond Week 17 this year. But with Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo’s seat getting hotter, his team likely will have a better chance of beating Skelton than Kolb, if Skelton performs like he did last week against the 49ers.
UPDATE 9:25 p.m. ET: Coach Ken Whisenhunt told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Saturday that Skelton “probably” will get the start, via NFL.com.
