Thing is, you get the feeling that should Andy Reid leave, The Eagles likely go downhill. They would need an OC, they have a lot of money on the books going into 2012's cap, they have talent, but the defense is a mess.

Anybody think Jeff Fisher could straighten this thing out? I just think Fish is low key enough to go into Tampa and turn that right around.

I would initially say Gruden would come in and completely live up to the hype, but that would again, bring out the dream team hype all over again. One thing is certain, Reid is a good football coach , that simply stuck with the wrong DC. Very likely he moves on and would be successful - anybody think he'd move to Cleveland (with Shurmur doing a "one and done?)

I love it, live for it, when dream teams fail. What impresses me is when a star athlete wants to win based on his or her performance dominating others and not join a bunch of other stars to ensure victory.

Duke isn't successful because of coach K, OSU, LSU, USC and so on aren't winners because of great coaching, its all the top players now only want to be on the team that gets to be on the big stage. Its now about competing anymore its all about me me me and being on the big stage.

The Eagles are finding the big names they went out and got aren't so talented after all. The fact is they are all standing around waiting for something to happen.

The Giants wrote the book on how to get beaten by the Eagles with Desean Jackson. I believe they are 2-7 against the Eagles since Jackson was drafted (Cowboys are 5-3).

You don't need a book to write "bust him at the line and cover him over the top".

"They’re BOTH choke artists. No one cares about regular season records. They’ve both had stacked teams for years."

Yeah sure undrafted Romo throwing to undrafted Miles Austin, Roy Williams, 7th round pick Patrick Crayton, third round pick Jason Witten, a stable of nothing special RB's, playing behind makeshift OLs and a questionable D vs. Andy and his plethora of highly drafted QBs, WRs, RBs and defensive players. For Pete's sake they handed out over $200 million in contracts to defensive players alone this season. They can't even BUY Andy a team. You're the kind of guy that will sit here and tell me how stacked the Cowboys have been then turn around and tell how bad Jerry Jones is in talent evaluation and acquisition, aren't you?

The Eagles looked like they were going thru the motions today, as if it was last week of the season and they had a playoff game next week and didn’t want to get hurt. This lack of being prepared and motivated is a direct reflection of the coaching staff, how in the world do they not get fired?

-------------

Just as the Giants did last week, while allowing them to look like they were doing something -- STILL only managing to "win" 17-10.

This team is over. Thank God.

I’m a bit confused. Numerous sites are referring to this loss as officially eliminating the Eagles from the playoffs. Now clearly its seems more than unlikely that this Eagles team would somehow sneak in; but aren’t they statistically still in the running? They still have to play Dallas and they’ve already beaten them once, so if they win out and end up with the same record as Dallas and New York, I believe Philly would take the division.

It’s obviously a far-fetched scenario given how they’ve played, but I’m curious if I’m correct in my reasoning or if I’m overlooking some detail that truly does eliminate them from the playoffs.

I’d appreciate it if someone could clarify this.

-------------

Their only hope is that the Bears, Falcons, Lions and Giants all lose 4 of 5 and they beat Dallas again, while hoping Dallas loses 4 of 5 otherwise.

That's just not going to happen.

They hold no tiebreakers over any of these teams unless the Giants completely choke away every one of their three remaining divisional games.

Good to see Eagle fans finally recognizing what the rest of us have been saying for a couple of years. DJax is a diva who has one skill set, his speed. He is afraid to go across the middle or anywhere near a defender, unless of course it is after he makes a play and wants to taunt. Reid made a huge mistake putting all his eggs in Vicks basket. Vick had a great 2010 because teams couldn’t figure out how to stop him until the Vikings went into Philly towards the end of last season and used their defensive ends to keep him in the pocket and then blitzed him with pressure. Vick never was an accurate passer when he was with Atlanta and he continues to show that deficiency. Vince Young is………vince young, not an nfl ready qb nomatter how you cut it.

The Giants wrote the book on how to stop him, everyone else copied it. But you’re right.

You iggles fans can have Bradly Childress back! I hope you do fire Andy Reid. I wouldn't blame his "coaching".. I'd blame him as a "GM"... Look at teams that have won recent superbowls. And all teams should look at this. It could change the way free agency is done.. GB, NO, NE, Indy, Steelers.. Show me once where they went out and spent big money and brought in big name players to win the super bowl? They haven't. They have built thru the draft. NO is the only team there that didn't draft their QB, but they went and signed him as a FA after major shoulder surgery. But they didn't win it all that year...

Now, go and look at teams that have tried to "buy" the lombardi over the past few years... Skins, Vikings, Iggles.. Vikings had a good year in 09, but thought 10 would be better, they flopped. You can't buy championships!

Packers? drafting built their team. Lions? Drafting... Pats? BB trades good players for more picks..

Blame your coach all you want. But it's not coaching. It's the "GM" position..

@ hiperactivodg

You really think that Philly beats the Pats with Vick? Really??? Dude, New England spotted you a 10 point lead and yet, the Eagles had to score at the end of the game to get within 18. Brady only completed passes to four guys, just four guys! The All World defensive backfield gave up close to 400 yards in receiving to four guys. 55% conversion rate on 3rd down for New England. Yeah, Vick would have shut that down. Ron Mexico is 3-6 this year after getting paid. Maybe the Eagles brain trust should have checked with Arthur Blank about the wisdom of giving Michael a bunch of cash. Lesean McCoy got his water turned off. One run for 22 and then another 10 carries for 9 yards total.

I questioned the Eagles' faithful regarding the wisdom of having a shaky OL and no LBs prior to the start of the season. I was told that Philly would be so far ahead that their flaws would never show. How's that working out for you? The Eagles pushed "all in" this season with their commitments to guys like Vick, Jenkins, and Nnamdi. I'm sure that Reid was a big part of those decisions. When it blows up in your face and the best you can hope for is to try and play spoiler, you're NOT one of the 3 best coaches in the league. Not this year!

A lot of you are absolutely ridiculous- it's easy to tell that many of you never played a sport in your entire life and don't really understand the intricacies of athletics because you spend more time focusing your energy and garnering excitement from another team's failure than you do concentrating on your own team's efforts. Some of you are cooing over how you've so enjoyed the Eagles' season thus far- who cares? All that should matter for you, as a fan, is whether your team is standing on the podium clutching the Lombardi Trophy at the end of the year.

As for those who claim that this team was built around FA, I find that notion to be erroneous and played out: this team is largely built around players from the draft and castoffs who no one else really wanted (i.e. Michael Vick, Vince Young) Let's go through the starters just to make sure: Vick (castoff), McCoy (draft), Herremans (draft), Watkins (draft), Kelce (draft), Mathis (FA), Peters (trade), D. Jackson (draft), J. Maclin (draft), Avant (draft), Celek (draft); so 3 of the 11 starters on offense were either traded for or picked up as FA. Defense: Cole (draft), Patterson (draft), Jenkins (FA), Babin (FA), Rolle (draft), Chaney (draft), Fokou (draft), Samuel (FA), Coleman (draft), Allen (draft), Asomugha (FA); so 4 of the 11 starters on offense were signed via FA.

More than 2/3 of the starters were drafted and, before this "spending spree" (as many of you like to call it), the Eagles were in the top 5 in terms of cap room in the NFL. A lot of the players they acquired were guys who signed for a year who wanted an opportunity to play for Andy, especially Vince Young.
