If he doesn’t comeback good after sitting this long he is going to be the equivalent to a boxer with a glass jaw and his career is over. Either way Lions need to do something RB wise next year since the entire backfield is an ER units dream.

We know that getting a big contract for most people is important but one should consider the health ramifications long term (such as Alzheimers, etc).
Also, when you hide injuries in order to get paid, you are actually cheating your employer since you could be knocked out a lot sooner (having collected a big bonus).

Another thing, Where was the fine or gasp suspension from the Cleveland DB who hit best helmet to helmet in the preseason? That is what started this cascade this year. Oh wait! You mean it’s football. Stuff happens and players get hurt? I couldn’t tell by some of the posts here.

Its a brutal game, played by tough brutal men, who can’t always control their reactions and emotions. Half you people get just as worked up over the new Madden release or any new hot first person shooter game.

what?!?!?!? who cares!!! why don’t you tll that Detroit traded up 4 spots to draft him and only swapped 4th round picks to do so! St’ Louis was going to select Best one pick before us, they even came out and said it after the draft! Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally digging for a story here!!

Kevin Smith is better than Best between the tackles.
But I would mimic New Orleans use of Reggie Bush in using open-air offense only for Best. Best has better top-end speed for that.
Also teach Best how to get tackled like Barry Sanders. When Barry knew the run was done, he always found the safest spot to get down.

All we heard on draft day was how risky it was to draft AP due to injury concerns from college and I’d say he has worked out pretty well for the Vikings so far.

The draft is part scouting part luck.

I still think if best is back next year he will be a great combo with leshoure pounding the rock, and when he tires out opposing defenses, put best in to torch them. After seeing my lions pick Charles Rogers, Mike Williams and Roy Williams with top 10 picks, best is by no means a bust. He was more productive with two turf toes than those 3 combined.

Not a good move by Mayhew who has done a better job than I expected being someone who once worked under Matt , the worst GM ever, Millen.

As for Best you have to feel bad for him. I’m sure he has made a nice chunk of change after being a 2nd round pick. Maybe he should consider a career change to a job where the competition isn’t trying to smash your brains out every Sunday.

They took a risk and it backfired. I’m sure there were other questionable decisions that went horribly wrong for other teams. But, when Best has played he’s been a beast.

Funny how nobody wanted to leak this info when Detroit was 5-0 and Best was making big plays for them. The Colts took Jerry Hughes right after the Lions picked Best. Also, the team that made the deal with the Lions was the Vikings, who ended up taking Chris Cook. The reality is that the NFL draft has a lot of risk involved, whether it’s concussions, off-field incidents, or just being an on-field bust.

The draft is part luck, part risk. The Patriots were lucky to have Tom Brady turn into what he did and Jahvid Best was a risky pick, but when he’s on the field he can be a game changer. Looking at it now, was it worth the risk? Probably not, but when healthy he is a hell of a playmaker.

If someone wants to put their body at risk like jack tatum did back in the day. They should be able to. These football players should see guys like dierdorf who can barely even walk and decide whether they want to take this football thing slow or not.
