I agree with the Larry Coyer move, because they have talent on that defense and can’t get the job done. They are getting blown out not because of the offense, but because of the defense.

That being said I still think Caldwell has to go as well. It all falls on his shoulders. I don’t agree with the whole “to improve communication” thing. If my boss wants to improve communication with me he will call me into his office everyday or come to mine and talk frequently so we are on the same page. Who is in charge in Indy…besides Manning?

I always wondered from the get go who this guy (Caldwell) was. I mean this guy was lifeless as a Macy’s department store dummy! No emotion whatsoever,hello are the headphones working?
I came to the conclusion that this guy must be a spectator with special sideline season tickets. I mean what else could he be doing? With that being said this guy is not an NFL coach at any level.
A team just doesn’t roll over and quit because of one QB as mentioned before the Patriots did it
(11 games) without Brady.
So lets take the season tickets away from Caldwell and let Jack Del Rio finish the job.
Are you listening Colts!!

Since anybody would be better than Caldwell, you have to keep him around, otherwise his interim replacement might win some games and let Luck slip away.

Hey, the colts didn’t just lose Manning for the season, they kept a lot of older players longer than they should have. They needed fresh blood and waited to long.
Now, even if Manning returns, he will need a running game and a very good Offensive line to protect his neck being crused.
The Colts are in trouble the next few years so they need to clean out some more people.

It’s a start. But it seems silly to fire the DC when the offense can’t score and neither side of the ball has enough talent or drive to win a game. Hopefully the next to get the axe is Caldwell, then Polian himself.

Maybe Raheem Morris can pick him up to handle the D-cor position for our Bucs and allow Rah to handle the head coaching duties more. If he still wants to call the plays, fine, but he needs someone to help him handle the defense.

Colts defense is not especially talented, but you overstate their shortcomings. Besides Freeney and Mathis (the best pass-rushing tandem in the NFL), they have a couple of promising young DT’s (Moala and Nevis); one of the best young linebackers in the NFL (Angerer, who was a 2d round pick, btw); a great free-safety in Bethea, who has had pro-bowl caliber seasons (although this is not one of his better years); and an above average young corner in Jerraud Powers (3d round pick in ’09).

Are there holes? Yes, big ones. The secondary is the biggest problem. Coverage abilities are subpar, which is why the Colts play so much cover-2. They need another good corner (their 2d, 3d, and 4th corners are all pretty bad). They need a good strong safety (Bullitt, their current SS, is pretty good, but on IR). And they need to add a playmaking OLB.

But they’ve also had some injuries. Their defensive captain and signal caller, Bracket is on IR, along with starting SS Bullitt.

Things could be much worse for this defense. There is a battery of good players to build around, but some are getting older the the Colts are probably going to have to let go of a couple of long-time starters (Bracket, maybe Mathis).

So what do the Colts do when Andrew Luck decides he’s going to stay for his senior year at Stanford? I mean, would it be smart? That first pick isn’t guarenteed a boat load of cash anymore. Does Peyton all the sudden regenerate that nerve over the spring and ready to go for training camp and save the franchise again? What a mess!

Give me a break – Polian’s entire strategy this season is to lose. We’ve seen players purposefully fumble the ball and now we’re supposed to believe that Polian is upset with his defensive coordinator?

If he’s guilty of anything it’s probably that Coyer didn’t suck enough in the Suck for Luck campaign, as evidenced by his giving up only 17 points against Jacksonville. That’s just too close for comfort.

This also might be Polian attempting to convince Goodell and the rest of the NFL that he’s actually NOT trying to lose, and avoid the inception of an NFL Draft Lottery in the future.

The Colts are pathetic. If we needed any more information on them throwing in the towel, they just announced that Dan “I was on the 0-16 Lions” Orlovsky is their starter. JFC. I just hope Irsay cleans house at the end of the year. Bill Polian has done enough damage to the NFL with all these wacky passing rules and shackles on defenses so he could get his team a ring. It worked, but it screwed up the NFL. Now you can’t play defense anymore.

This smells like the Polian family covering up their mistakes by offering a sacrifice. The Colts defense has not been any good but with any offense at all they should have won 5-6 games. Trying to fix the least of your problems and overlooking poor personnel descisions and bad QB, Oline play is not the answer!

Who cares. He’s gonna be replaced with another Cover-2 schmuck. The most useless defense in the history of the NFL. It only works when you QB scores 35 points a game, then your Cover-2 giving up 30 doesn’t matter.

caldwell is next…this guy had one good year at wake forest, then the bottom fell out….same with the colts…..he took them to the super bowl, lost to the Saints…..blew the first round playoff game last year vs the Jets, and now without Manning, the bottom has fell out as they are 0-11, and will probably finish 1-15..

you have to wonder if he gets a pass because they didnt have Manning or a capable backup behind him? The backup is the fault of the Polians, but heck, can you blame any backup QB for not wanting to go to Indy when he knows Peyton wants to hog every snap in practice and garbage time with handoffs while they were winning by 30?

That’s odd, the defensive coordinator is not typically the organization member responsible for making sure the team has a competent backup QB.
