Getty ImagesWell, Dan Orlovsky has a chance to make history.
He can be the man that helps the Colts avoid 0-16. Or he can be the man who gets stuck as the starting quarterback on two different 0-16 teams.
Colts coach Jim Caldwell revealed Tuesday that Dan Orlovsky will take over for Curtis Painter as the team’s starter. Caldwell made the announcement at the press conference to fire coordinator Larry Coyer — the man Caldwell chose for the job in 2009.
Orlovsky is unlikely to help the Colts get a win over the next two weeks. Indianapolis heads to New England, and then Baltimore.
The Colts will have a better chance later in the season when they host the Titans and Texans before traveling to Jacksonville.

They fired the painter?

The Colts are horrible for making Orlovsky AND Ernie Sims go through this again. At least cut them.
Painter will be back in the saddle after Orlovsky faceplants against Baltimore. Enjoy your two game stint, Dan.
Go Dan Go…..
two 0-16 teams for Dan, well that sucks.
Hopefully he doesn’t run out of the end zone this time.
.
Bet the Patriots are sh*tting themselves.
.
Firing a first mate on an already sunken ship is preposterous. Caldwell should’ve fired himself.
Is this the guy who ran out of his own endzone? Oh what a day. Get comfy Luck. Looks like you’ll be Peytons ball boy for a couple years.
He’ll probably throw for 400 and the Pat’s will win by 40.
UGH, time to bench Pierre’ Garcon for sure now….
Dan Orlovsky is an anagram for “Snaky Lovrod” so maybe he can bring some 70′s Boogie Nights voodoo instead of 2010′s Jim Caldwell doodoo.
Well, that’ll fix everything.
Thank you so very much Indianapolis. I am glad Dan Orlovsky is your quarterback because I did not want him in Houston.
This move made sense three weeks ago. Better late than never.
Ok NOW it’s on…
Good luck, Dan-O!!
Go Lions! Go Badgers!
oh not Kyle Orton, oh thats right, the Colts did not try to claim him. They are set at QB (next year that is)
CHEATERS!
Oh man. I feel bad for the guy but it would be sort of hilarious if they end up 0-16. Talk about bad luck.
That being said, I don’t see 0-16 happening. They’re bad, but they’re not THAT bad.
Dan Orlovski: The Man with Two O’s
Can’t wait to hear Belichick talk up all the problems that Dan Orlovsky presents for a defense.
Who cares? Doesn’t matter.
Will the Pats score more than the 62 points the Saints scored against the Colts this weekend?
Thumbs up for over.
Thats to bad Curtis Painter wont finish the season.
He could have potentially had – caused an 0-16 season and prevented a 16-0 season on his resume.
Just keep him away from the back end of his own endzone, and he’ll be just fine.
I’m getting flashbacks of Dave Wannstedt’s last season in Miami when he had to choose between A.J. Feeler and Jay Fielder at quarterback. At least they still managed to win a few games.
I think this game will be more competitive that most think. NE by 5
Touchdowns
I’m trying to think what would be better to be known as, either “The Man who was on two different 0-16 teams” or “The Man who ran out of the back of the endzone”.
I’ll would take option “C”.
Am I the only one who would love to see him light it up?
It’s too bad that someone like Kyle Orton wasn’t available. Oh wait…
Orlovsky must be cursed
The Colts will miraculously win a game after they clinch the “Suck for Luck” contest.
I can’t wait to see Orlovsky run his patented out of the back of the end zone pass play!
Hey Radrntn,
Colts couldn’t put in a claim on Orton because they would have been over the cap picking up his salary. They paid Kerry Collins $4 million this year to come out of retirement and fumble a bunch. And I hardly think they’re cheating their way to 0-16. If you’ve watched any of their games this year, the players aren’t trying to lose. They simply just aren’t very good. Save the cheaters moniker for someone who deserves it.
*cough* Patriots.
Most of you are missing a small point here about how arguably the most useless coach in NFL history Jim Caldwell is trying to shake things up to save his job. Well, he wont…
I wonder if this means I should put Reggie Wayne back in my fantasy lineup?
…probably not.
Light em up DanO.
This guys better then most would think he just got cursed being drafted by one of the worse football teams of all time.
Gotta cheer for what will probably be the last UCONN QB in the NFL.
Talk about rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic…
Really, though, I’m hoping he can help pull out a win.
Phsssh please the winnless colts wouldn’t have a chance with the texans even with t.j. Yates
Know your Boundaries, Dan.
Take the Pats, lay the 21.
Rumor out of Stanford is that if the Colts have the first pick he’ll play his senior year. Or even better, he says, “I’m not going to sit for 3 yrs behind PM so I’m staying in school.
Polian, one of the biggest whiners in the league, would get his just desserts.
Orlovsky isn’t as bad as people think… they might have gone 0-16, but a lot of those games they lost 24-35… or 28-40…
Offense wasn’t necessarily the problem for them… At least he was putting up some points
How terrible is JaMarcus Russell that guys like Painter, Orlivsky, Palko, Skelton, Haine, Beck and Yates can get starts and he can’t even make a team as a 3rd QB…
If the spread is over 27.5, I might take the points and the Colts and hope Belichick has some pity and want Hoyer to get some work in.
Looks like another week to heal for McCourty, Chung and Spikes.
BB should start Edelman at CB this week along with Adams. Good time to give Sergio Brown some work at safety along with Sterling Moore.
Perfect time to give the JV some reps.
You see? Relax, Colts fans. Dan Orlovsky to the rescue. You can all sleep again.
When Orlovsky started for the Lions, he had several good games with a QB rating above 88.
In the 12-10 loss to the Vikings, Orlovsky had a 95 rating.
In a 28-21 loss to the Texans, Orlovsky threw for 265 yards had a 99.6 rating.
In a 25-17 loss to the Redskins, Orlovsky threw for 223 yards and had an 88.2 rating.
In those 3 games, Orlovsky had 3 TDs and 0 Ints.
In a 27-23 loss to the Bears, Orlovsky was playing great until he suffered a fracture on his hand. Before the injury, he had 2 TDs–after the injury, he continued playing and had 2 picks. Orlovsky finished with 292 yards passing an a 74 rating.
Lastly, after missing a few games due to inury, in a 31-21 loss to the Peyton Manning led Colts, Orlovsky threw for 233 yards, had 1 TD 0 Ints, and a rating of 96.8.
In sum, Orlovsky wasn’t that bad for the 2008 Lions.
Is it too late for NBC to flex the Colts / Pats game back into Sunday night? This just got interesting!
Maybe Dan Orlovsky will be smart enough to throw to Reggie Wayne…Painter didn’t have a clue.
I can’t wait to see Jim Irsey’s face when Luck tells him he dosent want to play for the colts.
“In the 12-10 loss to the Vikings, Orlovsky had a 95 rating.” and ran out the back of the end zone.
That Colts game was against a team that went on to win 9 in a row and go 12-4. It was tied 21-21 in the fourth quarter.
Pat’s fans that think they should take this guy lightly don’t know what they’re in for. This is the perfect trap game for the pat’s. This guy is just good enough to hang around with anyone in the NFL.

You guys are really down on the Texans. The entire national media is. Well, that’s cool. All of our crazy ass defensive players are going to find you in your sleep.
