...of course they can afford both quarterbacks. Why do you think they aren't signing anybody to help them win a game???
So they can keep sucking for Luck.

They've known a lot more than what's been reported to the media and have had this all planned out from the beginning of the season.

IT'S A CONSPIRACY I TELL YOU!!!!
PLEASE NFL, INVESTIGATE THIS TRAVESTY!

The Colts would be smart to move their pick. They have many more needs than qb. Furthermore there is no guarantee that Luck will follow in Manning's footsteps. For all the talk about how great Manning is, part of the reason he succeeded is because what Indy had when got there. When Manning arrived they already had a solid left tackle in Tarik Glenn and a playmaker in Marvin Harrison. The Colts have already proven that it doesnt matter if you have the most talented qb prospect (Jeff George) if the team around him is crap. The Colts should be looking at Johnathan Martin, Kalil, Bradham, or even Morris Claiborne. Quarterback shouldnt be the priority.

so the colts will have the 1st overall pick for the fourth time when the highest touted qbs were coming out - Elway, George, manning, now luck.

obviously Elway snubbed them and George was a bust, but its a strange coincidence how this team always has the 1st overall in good draft years for qbs.

in 15 years, when the next big QB comes out, they will probably have the 1st overall pick again.

i hope the Polians and colt fans get snubbed by luck and have to suffer through many losing seasons.

If Manning doesn't retire you can count on Luck orchestrating a trade by refusing to play for the Colts and end up in :
a) Denver - you know Elway wants him as a Stanford alumnus and can "advise" him on how he worked the Colts over to land in Denver as the #1 overall in the '80's...
b) SF- Harbaugh connection...
c) Washinghton - Daniel Snyder could outbid anyone
d) Miami - could package talent and picks to move up and get player they need and give Colts immediate help and still keep top 10 pick.

lilrob10201 says: Why do people think that the Colts are sucking for Luck ? Its not like they planed for Peyton Manning to be injured.

No one ever said they planned to Suck for Luck.

But once you've lost your franchise QB on a team with limited depth, and have a 0% chance to win the Super Bowl, why wouldn't you Suck for Luck?

Not delusional at all, what I said is exactly how it happened, and long time and respected Packer columnist Jeff Christl agrees: groups.google.com/group/alt.sports.football.pro.gb-packers/browse_thread/thread/4efe911e4e56c181/a8a3f81c18035c3b?lnk=raot&pli=1

As far as Greta, how quickly you forget what drove that. It was Ted Thompson himself who struck first with that news conference where he laid out that exaggerated and skewed timeline (drafted by the same guy who lied to the Nation about WMDs in Iraq) about the events that led up to that point. I don't blame Favre at all for feeling the need to defend himself against it.

As far as his so called "backhanded" compliment, I think the fact that some people in Wisconsin were so quick to think it was backhanded were the same ones easily manipulated by Flesher's smear campaign. Favre can't say anything good about the Packers without sheep like you turning it into something it isn't.

Given the new rookie salary cap a 1st round player NEEDS to play immediately to play his way out of his rookie contract and into a lucrative long term deal.

By sitting behind a veteran franchise QB - a la Rogers on the bench behind Favre - in the day in age of the new CBA that effectively means Luck would have to willingly give up $30 million to $60 million to bide his time on the bench.

For some reason I just don't see that happening.

If Manning is healthy, there is NO WAY they can sell him on drafting a qb, when in his mind they should be using that pick to acquire assets to help him win.

There's only one historical precedent here, and that's San Francisco with Joe Montana. You have to trade Manning to a QB hungry team who'll give a haul of picks to help build around Luck. Heck, you could trade him to Kansas City just like Montana.

Manning, Jamaal Charles, Dwayne Bowe, Steve Breaston, Jonathan Baldwin, Tony Moeaki.....that could be seriously frightening to line up against.

If I am Andrew Luck, Indy is about the last place in the NFL nation that I would want to go. You never want to replace a legend. Rodgers replacing Favre is the exception not the rule.

Indy is a small market with a poor fanbase. Hell, the Bears are as popular in Indiana as the Colts. They have been successful for the last decade because of the outrageous ability of their QB. Their drafting in the last few years has been poor. They have an aging team with few skill players to surround Luck. His endorsement money in the mid west will be garbage.

If I were luck, I would pull an Eli Manning. Let the Polians know that you won't play for them. Buy a big insurance policy and go back to school for your last year and hope for a better overall situation such as Miami etc. I just can't see any good reason for Luck to want to play for the Colts. He will forever be compared to Manning which is only natural, but will be almost impossible to live up to. Besides, the owner is a goof ball and the front office is in disarray. Not the situation that a smart kid from Stanford would want to select.

Most people here are assuming that the Colts would get a multitude of high draft picks for Manning. You seem to be forgetting that Manning is damaged goods, and old damaged goods at that. Peyton is also coming off an injury that could end his playing days at any time, and probably sooner than later. Also I'm sure most owners are aware that although he is a top 5 QB, Manning is under .500 in the playoffs (8W-9L) I think)...and that is not likely to get any better as he gets older. So before you get all giddy about draft picks, it might not be as good as you think.

"And just like Ted Thompson, when Polian is ready to get rid of Manning in favor of Luck, all he needs to do is hire Ari Flesher to orchestrate a smear campaign against Manning just like he did against Favre in order to get public opinion on Polian’s side."

You're delusional.

Aaron Rodgers being good got the public on Ted Thompson's side. Winning a Super Bowl with Rodgers got the public on Thompson's side. The Colts are clearly in need of help all over the field. Paying Manning the kind of money his deal entails only makes sense if you think you’ve got a Super Bowl contender, which they’re not at the moment. So the way I see it, you trade the pick for a bevy of picks/players that will help Manning get the Colts back to the Super Bowl now, or you trade Manning for a bevy of picks/players and start the rebuilding process around Luck. It will take some balls to trade Manning, but that’s the best long-term plan for Indy.
--------------------------------------------------
It's already been discussed. The Colts wouldn't be able to trade PManning. They would have to cut him. Besides, no team other than Danny Boy Snyder's Deadskins would trade a bevy of picks for a 36 year old QB coming off 3 neck surgeries.

he has no leverage anyway, because everyone knows that's what he's trying to do. it's all a moot point. we will know what their draft strategy is before the beginning of the league year. there's no way luck and manning are on the same team. there's no way a team is going to allocate $28M to a single starting spot out of 22.

If Manning retires, he will play again but for another team. By retiring, he'd be respectfull to the Colts I beleive versus hanging in there until the bitter end after they draft Luck.

There's no way he's done and I don't think he's convinced he's done or he would be out of sight out of mind. So, he'll retire, the Colts will then not re sign him for the 28 million or so and I anticipate he'll play for another team in a different division next year.

He will need the whole offseason to condition, there's no way he comes back to even practice this yearand I think retiring gives him the time to re condition then comeback and not be on anyone's time frame but his own. But I just don't think he's done playing football.
