Jacksonville should never have been awarded a franchise in the first place, and should consider themselves lucky they ever had a team at all.

We have a winner!

That is the bottom line. J'ville is not an NFL city and should have never received an expansion team. It was, without a doubt, the biggest mistake Tag made.

[[ To all the the IDIOTS saying the team will move to Jacksonville I would like to point out that I live in Jacksonville and that the Jaguars have a stadium lease that runs through 2029. In order to break the lease the jags have to prove they have lost money in 3 consecutive years or attempt to argue that the City of Jacksonville has failed to properly manage the stadium….basically the team isn’t moving so stop it with the annoying comments thanks… ]]

Unfortunately it is almost unevitable that when faced with a purely financial business decision the owner will be swayed to move the team to the city offering the best long term opportunity. The owner has no loyalty to Jax and he is going to receive some very, very tempting offers.

As you stated there are some loopholes that give the team a way out of the stadium lease and it wont be that hard to show a financial loss on paper for 3 years. Or some other loophole that just requires a little creative accounting. Stuff that is everyday stuff for a business person of Kahn's means. Also lets face it, it wont be that hard for the ownership to show that the City of Jacksonville is not holding up their part of the deal. They are just another inept city government that has had a very adversarial relationship with the team, at times.

Kahn will probably give it a go for about 3 years in Jax to keep his word temporarily, but in the long run there will be a million excuses available for him making the move to a bigger market. The phrase "continued viability of the franchise" comes to mind. It really sucks but unfortunately that is the reality.

Khan wants a team so bad he would tell Weaver anything. No ties to the city either.
Cali is flat broke right now. But when they get the right stadium package which gets approved by the locals (much bigger hurdle than you might think) and start throwing around big numbers, then the days in Jax will be numbered.
My best guess is 5 years before the ship sails.

lol, as a Jaguars fan I think the writing is on the wall. This is exactly how teams move. Just wait a few years; I'm almost certain it will happen.

Anyone who thinks this Shahid fellow has any interest in Jacksonville when one of the most lucrative markets is about to open up is kidding themselves. I'd be absolutely shocked if the team's here in 10 years. Weaver plainly lied about selling the team. Because of that, there's plenty of reason to believe he's lying about the team staying in Jacksonville.

I don't understand this, did Weaver sell the team or not. How can he say what this Khan guy is going to do 2 or 3 years from now. How does Weaver even know if the other owners will agree to allow this guy to buy the team. Something doesn't smell right but what's worse is how can you fire a guy when you want to sell the team anyway. Seems kind of personal to me. Isn't that always the excuse they use "I wanted to be fair to that coach, (even though he lost me millions of dollars and I have to worry about blackouts every week)."

Makes perfect sense the team is going to LA. That's why none of the LA "players" are on the buying end of this deal. Did anyone pause to think about that? How much easier would it be to sell to Roski or someone affiliated with the AEG group. Instead he sells to a man who makes his home in Southern Illinois. Jacksonville isn't LA but it's >>> Southern Illinois. Those of us who know Weaver as an owner know he's patiently waited for the right person and turned down offers from people he didn't trust to keep the team in Jax. Could it happen? Sure it could, but everything I'm reading about him is he's not looking to make a fortune in the NFL. He's already doing that. He's looking for a challenge and to have fun owning a franchise because he loves the game. I see bright days ahead for the 904. Haters will just have to keep hating.

The Jags cannot move for about 20 years unless they can demonstrate at least three consecutive years operating with a loss.

And even if that occurs, the exit buyout is enormous.

Not happening.

“There’s not a doubt in my mind this team is going to stay in Jacksonville,” Weaver said.

As the Art Modell Cleveland Browns and Clay Bennett Seattle Supersonics proved, you can leave the team colors, history and trophies in the city and just move the franchise and start over so Khan can leave the colors and brief history in Jacksonville but move the franchise and start over.

Someone tell me that Wayne Weaver isn't the only rich man in town? He couldn't find local interest to buy the team?

@jamaltimore:

Watching the Mayflower vans moving out in the middle of the night still hurts many Colts fans today. You may get a lot of negative comments. but those who experienced the pain, hear you loud and clear. We love our Ravens, but still mourn how our first child was stolen by Ebaneezer Irsay.

And nothing against Jacksonville, but Baltimore had a much better plan, with much better financial backing than Jacksonsville did. But Tags and company told Baltimore to "build museums" instead.
