Dolphins part ways with Rosenfels, after all

Jason LaCanfora of NFL Network recently reported that the Dolphins won’t release their rights to quarterback Sage Rosenfels.  Now, Jason LaCanfora of NFL Network reports that they have.

Agent Rick Smith confirms via Twitter that Rosenfels “is healthy and removed from NFI list today by the Dolphins.”

Since the trade deadline has passed, Rosenfels must clear waivers.  The Texans reportedly were interested in bringing him back to Houston, but the Texans have since signed Jake Delhomme, who also is represented by Rick Smith.

The 11-year veteran has been employed the Redskins, Dolphins, Texans, Vikings, Giants, and Dolphins again.  Even if he lands with the Texans again, keep in mind that he has only 12 career starts.

Of course, that’s still 12 more than T.J. Yates.

Seems like he’d be an upgrade over Clemens/Delhomme since he knows the system. The only thing I ask is before each snap, if he ever has to (I would hope not), is for Kubiak to tell him “Don’t pull a Rosencopter!”

Sage has played well enough to get a real shot somewhere. What is so wrong with him that no one ever gave him a real shot? He seemed to play pretty well during the action he got.

I’m sure that holding his rights while denying him the opportunity to earn will be a net plus when trying to sign free agents. Every player should take note of this.

  21. pikkiwoki says: Dec 2, 2011 4:59 AM

Lost in all this is that, before the Rosencopter, Sage was actually outplaying Schaub.

I hope this is another indicator that the Dolphins are happy with Matt Moore, which helps keep the best QB’s available for Washington next April in the draft….Now, we just need to lose out and root for Arizona, Seattle and a few others to win!!
