Matt Barkley files for draft evaluation

USC quarterback Matt Barkley has submitted paperwork to the NFL draft advisory board to help him decide whether he’ll go pro this year, according to ESPNLosAngeles.com.

This is a normal procedure, but it’s the logical next step for the USC junior. Barkley joined NBC SportsTalk on Thursday and admitted that he’s “possibly” played his last game at USC.

Mike Mayock joined Peter King’s NFL podcast this week that Barkley was better than he expected. Mayock pointed out that Barkley does a great job making quick decisions, while avoiding sacks and interceptions despite playing behind a mediocre offensive line.

Mayock said Barkley’s physical skill set isn’t overwhelming, but he looks like a first round pick. Barkley was compared to a more “polished” Andy Dalton coming out of school.

Considering the sanctions against USC, we’d guess that Barkley will go pro if the draft advisory board agrees with Mayock as expected and says Barkley’s a first round pick.

I can’t wait to see Matty B suit up for the L.A. Jaguars

On one hand, the track record of Sanchez, Leinart, and Palmer coming out of USC isn’t the greatest, on the other hand, he’s bound to be an improvement over Rex Grossman…..hopefully the Redskins don’t mess this up by winning more than 1 more game this year….

I guess that ends the Blaine Gabbert era, unless another team moves up to take him…i’d say Colt McCoy might be getting a bit nervous, because he puts up numbers, but can’t get TDs….

As he should. As a Trojans fan, I want him to do whats best for him. Were, USC, we Reload, not rebuild, like what UCLA been doing the last 10 years. Trojans Fight On.

Doubt he’ll be able to last long enough on the draft board for a reunion with Pete Carroll, what with Indy, Miami, and Washington all currently picking ahead of Seattle, but I’d like to see it happen.

I think barkley is a better day 1 qb then luck. Now let me clarify that for the idiots. If Barkley and luck both got drafted and started from day one like flacco and Ryan I think Barkley would prosper more then luck. Overall I see luck as the better pro qb but I think he would do better in a Aaron Rodgers type situation where he sits for a year or two and takes over. If they where both handed the keys to a team day one barkley has a better rookie season though hands up and down

    Don’t forget about Matt Cassell.

And if their ‘track record’ includes $$$, them USC QB’s be doing alright!

    The Seahawks need this kid.

I think they are underestimating this guys arm.. Def i would take him behind Luck but ahead of Landry… and RG3..

Why risk the injury in college? Miami, seattle, or washington will take him in first round. Welcome to the pros

@bunchesofone, LA=Los Angeles. He won’t even have to leave his backyard.

Forget about Barkley going to the Jags.

They need to put people in the seats which is why they will trade for Tebow and Denver will take Barkley.

Looks a little over hyped right now. He was confused and benched early in the season. He could use another year at USC to improve decision making and accuracy. Or, he can hold a clipboard next year behind someone like Matt Moore.

Matt Barkley has been very impressive and efficient this season… throwing for over 3500 yards, 39 touchdowns with only 7 interceptions and a completion percentage of just under 70…

Yes, against Pac-12 defenses… but the same goes for Andrew Luck. Luck might be better suited for an NFL offense, but I honestly believe who ever ends up with Barkley might get a steal in the draft.

BAD comparison. Barkley is NOT going to have off the field issues that drop him, though his size is similar, but i think he’s a MUCH better passer. his passes are just pretty.

Forget about Barkley going to the Jags.

i AGREE on all points, if the Jags DO get another QB, CONSIDER, trading Gabbert for Tebow and i think Elway would take this. Elway wants a more pocket type of passer and Gabbert has the potential to be that, he just needs the WRs to work with.

As for Barkley, i REALLY think his best teams are Miami (if they want a QB), Seattle (join up with his former head coach), Indy (and learn from Manning) or Washington (Shanahan would love this kid).

he will suffer from usc qb syndrome in the nfl. the talent gap between usc and 99% of their opponents is huge ,which gives him a huge margin for error, luck is going against teams with as much if not more talent than stanford every week ,barkley is tossing the ball to future nfl players ,luck is tossing the ball to future “big bang theory” style geeks that is the difference

The sanctions end after this season, so him coming back actually would mean he could go for the Heisman and the Nat’l Championship. His team will be extremely loaded next year and will be a preseason top-5. I believe he will go though. He’s pretty accurate with decent arm stength. He has great poise and an “It” factor. His leadership skills are very apparent as well. The comaparsion to Sacnhez are a lil off. Mark is a better athlete but Matt is more accurate. Matt should be a top 10 pick of a team that employs a Westcoast offense. (Seattle) or (Washington)

i only compared them because of the USC connection, but in my book Barkley is the better QB, Sanchez can move around a bit, BUT Barkley is a better thrower from what i see and i think he would fit best in a west coast offense like Seattle or Washington. i WANT Washington to get him, but in Seattle, he at least knows the coach there.
