McClain allegedly held victim at gunpoint

AP

More details have come out regarding the arrest of Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain in Alabama Thursday.

According to the victim in the case, McClain allegedly held a gun to the victim’s head. The victim begged McClain not to shoot him, according to Seth Burkett and Bayne Hughes of the Decatur Daily.

Instead, McClain held his gun next to the victim’s head and fired the gun into the air. The victim in the case had previously been in an altercation with another man and was bleeding from the nose and mouth when he spoke to police.

DecaturDaily.com has a picture of McClain being handcuffed Thursday.  He smiles widely for the camera.  McClain is being charged with third-degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm.  They are all misdemeanors.

McClain is recovering from an ankle injury and seems certain to miss this week’s game. He’s a captain of the defense and calls the team’s defensive plays.

  1. yep, i can see it now, please write me a check rolondo, and we can settle this out of court.

I just have to wonder why the police would not arrest somebody immediatley for attempted murder….maybe because this guy has his version, rolondo has his, and somewhere between the two of them there is the truth.

  2. I can’t blame the NFL more throwing a flag on this one… I just hope this report isn’t accurate. This would be a HUGE disappoint first, and a huge loss to the second. When will athletes and people for that matter learn?

  3. “Typical Raider” comments coming. He is a joke to me as a Raider fan for his play … now for his character as 22 year old millionaire. Cut him now Hue ….

That would make 4 str8 1st round picks lost.

    Seymour Trade
    McClain (gone)
    Palmer
    Palmer (that would AFC championship)

    wow.

  4. This is one of those things where you dont what to say other then he needs more then footballl in his life. A grown man playing a professional sport should not be reenacting scenes from The Wire. Suspended for at least the rest of the year on this one.

  5. only in the south can you hold a man down and put a gun to his head….McClain should be kicked out of the league. hey espy now can you stop acting like stevie johnson is the worst thing to ever happen to the NFL?

  6. ” McClain is recovering from an ankle injury and seems certain to miss this week’s game. He’s a captain of the defense and calls the team’s defensive plays”.

    Next week and the next 3 t0 5 ….YEARS !

  7. Aren’t we ignoring the real problem? Suh mercilessly stomped on a defenseless player and only got two games! McClain’s story happens all the time. When will we ever get down to the important issues?

On a serious note, players take on the personality of their head coach, do they not?

  8. Decaturdaily.con reports “This is the second gun incident this year involving McClain in Decatur. He called Morgan County 911 on Jan. 28 to report being shot at while driving on Second Street Southwest. “

  9. one thing is for sure, Rolondo needs to stay away from his old stomping grounds….that place is nothing but trouble for him…….dude ought roll up in his benz and hang out in the land of the rich of famous…the dude got a 40 million dollar deal, and wants to hang out in the ghetto.

  10. They are all misdemeanors! End of story! No way he gets suspended this year, after court Goodell can suspend him next year. McClain is obviously an idiot who needs to stay away from Alabama though

  11. I’m not so sure he won’t play this next game. Hue said he would play regardless of his injury. Granted that was before his arrest, but the charges are misdemeanors and he is already out of jail.

  12. According to a Bay area report McClain has been released on bail and Hue Jackson expects McClain to play on Sunday.

  13. You knew there was going to be trouble when some members of the Hartfield clan drove by the McClain family funeral, tooting their horns in derision.

  14. Ummm, can you say idiot? Especially when you see that picture of him smiling being handcuffed…Playing in the NFL is a privilege and not a right. Just ask Mike Vick

  15. @Fitzmagic1212
Aqib Talib did the same thing this summer, except his weapon was aimed at someone with every intention of filling him with lead. I don’t think Talib missed one game.

  16. Rolando, when HueJack is talking about building a bully, he means on the field.

FTR, Decatur is deep south ghetto. Rolando grew up and played his high school ball there. Guess the guy can’t get the hood rat outta his system. He needs to seriously defrag his hard drive.

Sigh… now the Raiders have to go into the offseason with MLB as a position of need, again.

  17. breaks my heart to see one of the best bama players in history,a shining example of what hard work can get you,go out and do something as juvenile and stupid as this!

  18. Give the fans the finger get a $75,000 fine.
Put a gun to a guys head and then fire a shot…….nothing? Well see.

  19. McClain needs to listen to the wisdom of Mr. Johnny Cash:

“When I was just a baby,
    My Mother told me ‘Son,
    Always be a good boy,
    Don’t ever play with guns!”

  20. geez, some people.this guy is making in 1 year more than many people make in their lifetime, and yet he still manages to get himself into these situations.

why cant these athletes just be smart, stay out of trouble, play the game, and collect your millions? what is the need for this nonsense from any person in this world, but especially a professional athlete who has everything he needs.

  21. You shouldn’t be allowed to step foot on an NFL field and make a living after holding a loaded weapon to a mans head, but money talks..he’ll be back on the field asap.

  22. So let me get this strait. A LB from Green Bay gets arrested for “allegedly” assaulting his girlfriend, this guys shoots a gun near or at a guy, yet the internet is all ablaze over Suh kicking a guy his same size. Who needs anger management the most out of those 3 cases????

  23. …Good.

    He sucks anyhow.

Aaron Curry, Kamerion Wimbley & Quentin Groves can pick up the slack. It’s not like McClain made the Raiders linebacker core any better.

  24. Don’t worry Raider nation, he will be suited up on Sunday. Goodell only suspends you if you were accused of something and never arrested or he actually catches you in the act. Damn the police, in Goodell’s eyes.

  25. third-degree assault is a misdemeanor?
So much for justice. I’d hunt him down and shoot him in the knees if he did that to a loved-one of mine.

  26. “McClain is being charged with third-degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm. They are all misdemeanors.”

    Wha…….misdemeanors?!?!

  27. It’s nice to see that Chokeland has such high character guys as their team captains. I’m sure there’s a big, ugly tatooed boy in the Alabama state pen that will wipe that smirk right off Mr. McClain’s face.

  28. A misdemeanor?? For holding a gun to someone’s head, scaring them sh**less and then firing the gun? Please tell me that’s a joke, that has to be a felony unless being a Raider automatically means you’re subject to a vastly different criminal code than the rest of society.

  29. When 99% of players don’t get caught up in this stuff….isn’t it unbelievably ignorant to refer to this as ”typical”? Wouldn’t ”typical” be players who DON’T do this??

And who are these people who always say ”if I did that I would lose my job”?? lol. Athlete envy is a bi*ch. Where do you work where a misdemeanor gets you automatically fired?

  30. What NFL player wouldn’t jeopardize a mega-contract by sticking a gun to a dude’s head?

    Perfectly normal behavior.

  31. LOL @ the picture of him getting arrested though.

McClain is about HIS. People test athletes thinking they can’t get touched. But when that burna is pointed at ya head…Damn.

  32. With this now being a police matter, Roger might have to let the criminal justice system run it’s course. Maybe it’s time to trade him to the Bucs where he can hang with his fellow gun nuts, Talib and Freeman.

  33. what an absolute waste. They should just start giving me all these morons money to hold onto until they know the idiots wont go and do something dumb. Utter stupidity.

  34. are you guys not reading about the victim though? he was previously in an altercation with another man. for all we know this dude McClain scared was some crazy banana Meth addict causing problems. I’m not condoning this but the story is yet to come out

  35. Doubt there is any physical evidence or any other witnesses…Ro and his posse were chillin’ on the couch playing MW3, and have no idea what this crazy mfer is talking about…

    __
Makes you a bigger loser than he is.

  37. Ok everyone, let’s put this in perspective. They were all misdameanors so everyone can stop talking about him getting thrown in prison. I’m no law expert, but I doubt it can be that serious if they let him go on a $2,000 bond. Remember as well that there are two sides to every story and the accuser was put charged as well. For everyone comparing this to Plax remember that he would have got a slap on the wrist in any other state, NY’s gun laws put him in prison.

With all that being said, pull your head out of your ass Rolando. This is the second time you have put your career and life in jeopardy by hanging out in the wrong places. Wake up!

Between this and his play on the field I am pretty disapointed. I don’t think I was ever as excited about a Raider draft pick, but I have just not seen the production and he has blown a lot of assignments. He is only 22 and I still think he will be a pro-bowl caliber LB. He just needs to focus on football….. and the smiling pic, C’mon Man!

Don’t take your guns to town – another fitting Johnny Cash song.

  39. I’ve been waiting for the Raiders to cut this bum, hopefully this will be a good enough reason.

    —————–

please, please stop this. None of them play mike, none of them wear a headset. Blackstock is the backup and would play. Groves??? LMAO. Have you ever seen a Raiders game or did you just go look at the roster?

  41. @ 1captain1

Sir, you are an idiot. I’m a pretty big guy. Why don’t you let me get up in your grill and then threaten you with a gun in your face and you can tell me if you think it’s the same thing as jaywalking. The cops just issue tickets for jaywalking and speeding. They don’t haul you downtown and lock you up.

  42. His agent must be a total numb nuts. This is his second shooting incident in that POS town in under a year. He should have been banned from going there or under heavy escort. It’s like that idiot pitcher from Venezuela that got kidnapped. Once you get you coin, you chuck your contact list into the lake and start over and never go back to the POS town your from.

  43. Actually, he put the gun to his head and missed. Because he was holding the gun sideways, of course.

  44. Wow so quick to judge.
“The victim in the case had previously been in an altercation with another man” … that tells me the victim is the trouble maker and met his match.

  45. Nobody even knows what happened so i dont know why everyone is hatin on Rolando…Dude he did it to could of deserved it i mean you dont just point a gun at someones head for nothin and regardless of him bein in the NFL and makin millions hes gonna make mistakes just like everyone else…He is a damn good linebacker and id like to have him on the Cowboys

  46. Just look at his face in that picture on the left – it’s obvious McClain thinks this is a big joke, haha. Clearly he doesn’t “get it.”

I was hoping the Broncos were going to be able to draft him but Josh McDaniels had other deviant plans of destruction.

This is serious but I’m sure he’ll get off with just a little love tap on the butt by a judge. Maybe probation, a little service to the community, anger management classes, nothing like you or I would get from the law for such a transgression.

Prediction – this won’t be the last problem with the law McClain has if he is enabled by the legal system.

  47. ernst90, number one, learn how to write. Don’t let that 8th grade education go to waste. Number two, carrying a gun around in broad daylight, yea, I guess that’s normal so if it goes off and someone just happens to be in the way, hey, mistakes happen, right? No, he’s just another idiot who has a skill. Like to have him on the Cowboys? Well, see how long he lasts before something really bad happens, then lets see if you’d want him then, dummy.

  48. I have been reading pro football talk for a long time and always love the comments. Today I signed up for an account because I cant handle all this nonsense. McClain has no recard all charges are misdemeanors. NO JAIL TIME. Secondly, all these “football fans” saying he sucks dont know anything about football. The kid is a beast, heart and soul of the raiders D. Without him we are screwed. We have an amazing Defense that is run by a 24 year old. Kid has so much talent and if he stays outta the hood he is and I quote a “future hall of famer.” Smarten up kid. Your my favorite football player. RAIDER NATION

    I BLEED BLACK AND SILVER

  49. I no its hard for the Raiders and their fans to have Everyone talking about the better TEAM in the AFC west (the BRONCOS). But if this what you want us to talk about your Team than OK!!

  50. raider…soon to be bengal.

Its the other way around these days. The Bengals are sending all their loosers to the Raiders. Do they a draft pick for this to. LMFAO!

  51. @ nflhof

In defense of joetoronto, he’s already come out on a previous thread and called McClain an “idiot”. I’ve had my own differences with joetoronto, but in this case, he was spot on.

  52. So, I can point a loaded gun at somebody’s head and then shoot it in the air while threatening him…..and get out of jail the same night with misdemeanor charges????

WTF???? Really????? Something is not right there…

  53. phadedwun says: Dec 1, 2011 7:45 PM

    ______________________________
I gotta agree with War27 on this one. It is a totally different position. Curry is in Oakland because Groves wasn’t cutting it. If Blackstock plays anything like he did in the Denver game this will end badly. McClain needs to make some new friends, but if they were really his friends they would tell him to stay away anyhow.

  54. There are time in life when we need a positive out look on bad stories… We need a positive slant on a story like this.

“He is not involved, or has anything to do with America’s number one active mass murder who is responsible for the unsolved murders of 10 bodies found on the beach in the community of Oak Bay, Long Island N.Y.”

That is the positive slant I can put on this story.

  55. 126 replys … all the Raider haters are out in full force … that must mean the Raiders are in first place and it’s driving the haters nuts … ha ha ha.

  56. So, I can point a loaded gun at somebody’s head and then shoot it in the air while threatening him…..and get out of jail the same night with misdemeanor charges????

WTF???? Really????? Something is not right there…

Forget about it, Jake. It’s Chinatown.

(Someone had to match the Die Hard allusion.)

  57. Suh just made another post game statement……”I stumbled while getting up and I definately was not carrying a gun.”

  58. Haven’t read through all the comments yet, so someone might’ve already mentioned this but… what is the deal with football players and guns???

Someone please explain this to me!

  59. Alabama? Don’t the Raiders practice or have team meetings or anything on Thursdays? What is missing from this story?

  60. Not to be mean, but if players keep doing this the penalties are going to be even more severe as they keep happening. I think they should that way they keep it inside their head when situations like this come up. I liked McClain, but now it is hard to imagine what type of punishment he will get if guilty or not guilty even. I am just wowed over this!!!!!

  61. As much as the Raiders need him, (they have nobody else to play MLB that’s worth a damn) he should be let go immediately, IMO.

Contrary to the ignorant posts here by some, the Raiders have been relatively squeaky clean for years now, some idiot actually said “Al Davis would be proud”, No, Al Davis would have cut him ASAP.

Hue, take out the friggin trash.

  62. Hate to say it, but suspend him for the rest of the year without pay, or release and suspend him. The Raiders have been on a roll, and this distraction can only cause a potential road block in winning the AFC West. I do not want any distraction of this type on our team. I hope the Raiders, and the commissioner’s office do the right thing in the best interest of the club.
