Rolando McClain arrested for assault, discharging a firearm

Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain was arrested and stands accused of illegally firing a gun in his hometown of Decatur, Alabama.

CSNBayArea.com reports that McClain has been arrested for discharging a firearm within city limits, third degree assault, menacing, and reckless endangerment.

Decatur Police Lt. John Crouch told CSN that McClain is currently in jail.

“I can tell you that Rolando McClain is under arrest,” Crouch said. “He’s been charged with third degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm in city limits. He is still in custody.”

McClain, who went home this week for his grandfather’s funeral, was reportedly involved in a fight on Wednesday night before the shooting broke out.

  1. yeah throw your career down the toilet why don’t ya? along with the raiders season. what a selfish prick. im sick of these idiot overpaid children being paid a kings ransom to play a kids game

  2. Wait….according to the brain trust on this site it’s only the Packers players who break bad. You mean all teams have their troublemakers ? Who woulda thunk it ? You know who you are.

  3. Can you explain how you get from a funeral to a fight?

The funeral explains how he was in Alabama, what it doesn’t explain is what he was thinking.

  4. Rolando McLain more like John McClane. Maybe he was protecting Nokatomi Plaza from Hans Gruber .

  5. Another knucklehead move by a NFL player. If the men in black don’t watch out my dolphins might surprise them. At very least this incident focuses attention away from the game onto an arrested player who should have known better than brandish a gun in public .

  6. Yeah, I remember that moment at my grandfather’s funeral when it degenerated into the gunfight at the OK Corral.

Beyond out of patience with McClain on and off the field. So much for that pre-draft talk that he was a quiet, solid kid who didn’t get into trouble.

  7. Two shooting incidents in one year? This guy us head to the pen or the grave. Shoulda reported the other incident unless this is in reference to it.

  8. Without McClain Oakland looks like a bad H.S. defense. Did you all see Curry, the linebackers and D.E. without McClain? They were lost. He’s the QB of the defense.

Oakland Raiders are in BIG trouble

  9. The only good thing about this is that it’s Alabama and the charge is not attempted murder. All gun charges in this country are not equal. “Discharging a firearm in city limits” is not the same in Alabama as it is in New York. Honestly, almost everyone down there has a firearm.

My guess is worst chance scenario he’ll get probation and some type of suspension (probably 4 games) from the NFL next year after the plea.

  10. Raider fan here…

I hope this gives the raiders a out onhis contract. Dude can not play in the NFL. To slow, no instinct and not this. I hope we cut him

  11. Let’s hear some details first before we throw him in the can and declare his career over. Third degree assault? That’s a misdemeanor. He’s got pockets full of dead people and a good lawyer will get him off with probation.

  12. Wow.

Raiders beat reporter Steve Corkron reporting this via Twitter:

“Victim told police that Rolando McClain put a gun against the victim’s head, removed it, fired shot next to victim’s ear.”

    So he’s a sadist too.

Where’s that attitude on the field, Rolando?

  13. Victim told police that he “begged” Rolando McClain not to shoot him in the head just before McClain fired a shot next to victim’s ear.

Done… absolutely done! The Raiders already went through this crap with Patrick Bates. As they say fool me once…

#55 is gonna have time to get his ankle right during his inevitable suspension by Goodell.

If the Raiders are lucky, they can move him during the offseason and find a capable replacement during the offseason.

    Done. Done, done, done.

  14. I find it ridiculous that the public will talk for weeks about Suh being a dirty player on the field but I know that this will be a minor story on espn. Public needs to get it straight.

  15. Chief67 ‘A Raider player arrested , I am in SHOCK !’

And the last time was when??? Please remind me?

As for McClain, what a total dumbass. Can’t these guys take their millions and better themselves and those around them, it seems not.

  16. first true playoff run in a decade – check

just now getting over penalties – check

    winning despite injuries – check

    oh yeah

idiotic off field b.s. from fraud MLB pick – priceless

Being a Raider fan aint easy. They pull this stuff, and we just keep coming back. sigh

    RAIDER NATION!

Hey Idiot, name the last Raider that was arrested and what his crime was… Go!

Thats what i thought, enjoy the cellar

  18. We don’t need this kind of distraction. If I were the Raiders I seriously think about cutting bait after the season. He hasn’t done much in two seasons after being a star at Alabama. Good player but not worthy of the 8th pick overall. If you pick in the top 10 – which hopefully the Raiders won’t for a long time (and they have no 1st this year and maybe no first in 2013 if they make the AFC champ game this year or next) – QB, OL, DL and the only positions worth top 10 picks.

This is Hue’s and the new GM team now so nobody and I mean nobody is now a lock to stay (other than Carson Palmer).

  19. All these Raider fans that say he can’t play…have you watched this defense with Darryl Blackstock wearing the headset???

RM may not be Ray lewis but he makes the defense better as a whole then any one other person on the team.

    ======================

I agree. Just enough of their offensive starters are out, so they lack the big play element and have to grind out scores and play defense late. Blackstock is horrible, and this may change the entire complexion of the Miami game – McGlockton passing, now McClain arrested.

Next man up…but at this point..? But were facing Matt Moore. I’m just hoping CP3 doesnt start forcing picks to try for the big play every drive. Were due for a stinker on the road, since we have played well, so far. Denver is looming ever closer with Tebow Time as well.

  21. With some of the details coming out it’s apparent that Ro Mac is straight up gansta.

Also, all four charges are misdemeanor’s. Plax should have gone clubbing in Alabama.

Wow, what a moron. I don’t care what happened prior, there is no excuse to put a gun to someone’s head. Based on the ESPN article he was interviewed for, he’s playing way, way too much Call of Duty, Modern Warfare or whatever the hell they play.

While he ain’t a huge playmaker, he get’s that defense in the right position. Huge set back.

  22. What is wrong with guys making big money and being so stupid? You are making about 8 million a year, why don’t you have a security detail? No not a bunch of your gold tooth hommies packing, but real body guard to just come between you and making an jack hole of yourself.

Same goes for driving under the influence. Don’t get behind your Bently, get a dang driver.

—Raiders beat reporter Steve Corkron reporting this via Twitter:

“Victim told police that Rolando McClain put a gun against the victim’s head, removed it, fired shot next to victim’s ear.”–

If you pull your weapon, it is to defend your or anothers life, not to intimadate. What an idiot.

  23. KIR you have no idea what you are talking about. Of our linebackers McClain has performed the worst. He’s unaggressive, avoids contact, waits for plays to come to him and has an attitude problem. Happier with Blackstock at least the man puts in 100%. Don’t grade the whole defense off a game McClain happened to miss. Don’t want him, don’t need him. Guys like that become a cancer & don’t deserve to play.

  24. It’s not like he injured anyone. He made a mistake, probably shot his gun in the air, which i’m guessing is not uncommon down south. It’s not like he shot himself (Plax) or killed somone with his posse (Ray) or committed vehicular manslaughter (Little).

  25. Too bad the Raiders played the Bills already, would have loved to see Stevie Johnson’s imitation of this… Not!

  26. Dude held a gun to a guys head, then discharged it in the air. the commish just suspended Suh for 2 games after one stomp. What ya think this guy is looking at?

My advise to Rolando is to hire the lawyer Ray Lewis used to clear him.

My “Advise” would be learn how to spell, Moron.
    It’s Advice!

  28. Though I cannot stand either team…I’m going to LMAO when Denver gets to playoffs ahead of Oakland…God Bless

Just the beginning of their unraveling.

Another case of their fan base talking smack in September…and losing all discipline and falling apart in December..God Bless

Can you imagine the …MANIA…if Tebow brings Denver to playoffs…They have a whole new religeon named after Tim…God Bless

  29. He hasn’t played up to his draft status and doesn’t seem interested in getting there.
I don’t know who moves to the middle, but RoMac has to be on his way out with this move.

  30. Chief67:

Cause LJ or Vrabel were never arrested either right?

Minnesota Vikings have had the most arrests since 2000 with 29 that included the sex boat scandal and the Bengals are second with 27.

  31. Rosenthal didn’t post my comment in the earlier thread…Needless to say my opinion that it was safer for him in Oakland was wrong. Looks like Oakland is safer without him. Keep it real son! Heard! enjoy your stay on our freakin’ tax dollars.

You mean Raven wannabe? They are the criminals of the NFL.

You’re an inbred, cousin kissing, moonshine drinking, howling at the moon, western Pa, towel waving jackass. Vikings and Bengals lead the league over the last number of years.

  33. Something doesn’t add up with this guys story.

It would seem he was possibly trying to rob McClain or gain some street cred and ended up screwing with the wrong person.

  34. And to think I was PO’ed when the Raiders drafted him, and the Giants got stuck with Jason Pierre Paul. Oh well, looks like my son was right again… he said at the time the Giants got the better end of the deal.

  35. these guys get a once in a liftetime opportunity to make ridiculous money playing a game that most of us played as kids for free. then you read stuff like this and you shake your head. Ive never even ehard of him, and probably wont ever hear of him being on an NFL roster again after this. Way to throw it away genius

Excuse me but you don’t speak for the Nation, speak for yourself.

The guy is a turd that needs to be flushed.

  39. “He’ll get cut, then sign with the Bengals……”

Nah….he should be a Raven. Besides it’ll be a natural progression/passing of the torch…..when Rayenthal steps aside this guy can step right in w/o skipping a beat – and I’m not talking about on the field.
