Love Barkley but, if Barkley’s not available, I’d like Nick Foles. Foles is 6-5 235LB. He’s completed 71% of his passes with 15 TD’s and 4 INT’s and is projected to go in the 2nd round. I like big QB’s that can take drop back, quickly set up and see over the linemen as the receivers are running their routes. Not smurfs like Vick who’s barely 6 ft and is constantly wasting time rolling out to escape pressure and loosing visual contact with his receivers. But, yeah, I would love to have Barkley first unfortunately, where talking Philadelphia Eagles here when it comes to drafting obvious needs.

I would love to take Barkley. We are stuck with Vick in 2012, but 2013 would be ripe for a new HC and a new starting QB. Give a big, strong armed kid a chance to learn for a year, and actually be able to see over our 6’6″ LG and 6’9″ plugin Dunlap. Vick has problems with throwing lanes because he cant see. I love watching him play when he is on, but Vick is too inconsistent to rely on every week. Lets move on please and prepare for the future.

What exactly are you on?

1. Please tell me exactly when and where youve heard an Eagles fan brag as if we have won anything. Please. Because I have honestly never seen it. And I most certainly havent been one to brag. When your favorite team hasnt won anything in your lifetime, you dont go bragging. I visit the Eagles message boards every single day, and I have never once in the last decade seen anyone bring up the fact that there are other teams that havent won the SB. Not unless they are arguing against a fan of one of those other teams.

2. Please show me the last time before this season that any single Eagles fan – “warn us every year that they’ve won the Super Bowl of the preseason with their lavish free agency signings” I guarantee you that you cant find a single warn, brag, or guarantee. Eagles offseasons are ususally crap. Pardon some of us for being excited this season for spending money. Our last previous signing was Asante Samuel. And not a single person equated signing that one player with winning a Super Bowl.

Eagles forgot this is a team game and not a collection of great players game. Embarrassing, no cohesion.

I think Reid is a good coach but his decision to make Castillo Def Coord shows poor judgement and because of that he needs to go. Time for fresh blood. Keep T Cole, Desean, Maclin, and McCoy. I’ll throw in Avant and maybe Celek, fire the rest and plan for a 4 year rebuilding and pain during that time.

What if DeSean Jackson realized that he’ll never reach his full potential as a receiver with the talented but inconsistent Michael Vick (or worse, Vince Young) at QB? He might have seen Roddy White’s numbers with Vick compared to his numbers with Matt Ryan and realized he needs more of a pocket QB. The only problem is that teams don’t just let talented 25-year-old WRs walk for nothing.

Enter Bill Belichick. He sees his team with a young defense with potential, a star QB, a good OL, and good possession targets in the passing game. The only thing his team is missing is a gamebreaker – someone who is a threat to score an 80-yard TD on any play. Belichick sent word to Jackson that, if he tanks this season and acts petulant enough to make Reid get rid of him, there’s a 4 year/$40 million contract waiting for him, and he can catch balls from Tom Brady during the prime of his career while being a Super Bowl contender every year.

Just sayin’…

Heck, I wouldn’t even consider him a top 50 receiver.

(Okay, that last one is just wishful thinking as a Buccsfan, but I think Fischer, a new OC and a solid draft and getting rid of the turds on that team we have currently, and spending a few dollars in free agency for some key positions/veteran presence, and Tampa could begin to get back to 8-8, 9-7 football, and then be contending in another two to three seasons. Again, just wishful thinking!)

Fire Reid, and hire somebody who can work with McCoy and our talented but wrongly utilized CBs.

When Reid renegotiated his contract years ago and had the title of VP or Football Operations added to his title, he was given final say over all personnel decisions.

He picked every player on this team. Roseman is nothing but a cap guy.

You’re right- you would definitely have to have no brain to do that.

And the next coach needs to clean house. Buh-bye Vick, VY, MeJax, Riley effin’ Cooper, SorrySmith.

Then he needs to get talent that AR has deemed unimportant. Such as LBs and DBs that can both hit AND cover, and a big WR that can catch end zone fades and take hits over the middle.

What did the Eagles “get” from their decision not to re-sign Jackson?

They saved a lot of money. They taught him a lesson.

He quit on the team and wrecked the offense and now the team is 4-8.

He’s made himself untradeable, so you can’t even franchise and deal him in the offseason. So we won’t even get a draft pick for him.

So who taught who “a lesson”?

1) “DeSean knew what the deal was when he signed his first contract. That was all the money he could get at the time because that was all the leverage he had.”

No, he got that money because he was slotted at that pick. The money is determined by the # you are selected at. So he didn’t have a choice.

2) “The way to get more cash is by getting more leverage.”

He was made, by Reid, the focal point of offense and special teams. That’s leverage. The real problem is that the Jets overpaid for Santonio Holmes and the Eagles then signed Steve Smith to $4M. All that did was drive up his asking price.

3) “And then, you come out and say it’s all because Philly didn’t pay him earlier.”

But that’s what happened. Is it right? Nope. Is it fair? No. Is it professional? No.

But they knew when they drafted him that he was a diva. And, as we know from TO, when you pick up a baby you need to treat him differently. If you are not prepared to do that, don’t draft him. But they saw him in round 2 as an extraordinary value, so they took him.

Bringing Jackson back for this season with no extension was playing with fire. Either they should’ve signed him or traded him. I’d have been OK with either. I am not going to sit here and tell you he’s worth Holmes money much less Fitz money.

But to do what they did was the worst course of action, and we know that from the TO debacle.

Not saying you are wrong, but reality is reality. And not paying this guy helped wreck the season. Because he imploded and sulked. So forgive me if I don’t care what the balance sheet looks like.

We all wish the league was full of Shady McCoys, playing hard (and hurt) for a contract in a losing cause. But those guys are the exception. And if you are running a team, you need to take account of that in your decisions.

Reid is getting no help, on top of making head scratching decisions, like hiring a defensive line coach before a defensive coordinator. (They had no choice but to hire Castillo.)

In baseball, whether it’s third base, center field, etc., all the positions are played the same on all teams. But in football, you have to learn the system, AND be willing to play within it. I wasn’t buying the hype a few months back because of this. The Eagles have great talent, no question about it. But talent with no teamwork means you lose more games than you win.

The Eagles have far too many problems meshing their players to make this work.
