DeSean Jackson unhappy with reporters asking if he’s unhappy

Philadelphia Eagles v Seattle Seahawks Getty Images

During Thursday night’s game, Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson sat by himself on the bench, looked unhappy and at one point appeared to be refusing to speak to Vince Young when Young approached him on the sideline. Afterward Jackson was not pleased with reporters who asked him what was wrong.

I’m not answering none of that type of question,” Jackson said, via NFL Network. “If you’re going to ask something about the game, do that. You’re asking questions that don’t even mean nothing. Next question.”

Jackson wouldn’t confirm or deny that he was refusing to talk to Young, although the images on the sideline made it pretty clear that he was.

“If that’s what they saw, that’s what they saw,” Jackson said. “I don’t have to sit here and answer them questions. My teammates know what it is.”

If Jackson is right that his teammates know the truth about him, he might be interested in knowing that one teammate was asked by the Philadelphia Inquirer whether Jackson’s head is in the game and answered, “No, he’s [messing] around.”

The only good news about Jackson right now is that he’ll only be [messing] around in Philadelphia for four more games until his contract expires.

Then, again, since he seems to prefer to go by his high school, I don’t think they’re bragging too much either.

He basically calls Jackson a liar.

  15. walker615 says: Dec 2, 2011 7:41 AM

Dude, honestly.. What on earth are you thinking?? I know he deserves no sympathy, he has brought all of this on himself, but this is downright sad to watch. Like a slow motion car crash, we’ve all seen this coming from a mile away and yet it continues to spiral out of control.

Desean, you’re a lot of fun to watch, and I like what you did with that bullying victim, but you just cost yourself 10-20 million. I hope it isn’t true that you’re broke.

  16. achap39 says: Dec 2, 2011 7:43 AM

Hard to know who to blame this one on. The Eagles are an historically cheap organization and apparently do a poor job of communicating internally to top tier players who are on the cusp of a contract negotiation. On the other hand, Jackson’s actions are highly unprofessional and immature, and everything he is doing is counterproductive to the overall success of the team.

The reality is Michael Vick’s true colors regarding lack of viable leadership skills are on full display here, and this was the one miscalculation the Eagles made when they handed him 100$ million.

Reid has lost the team, this is clear and obvious to anyone who watched that extremely embarrassing effort Thursday, and therefore he ultimately needs to held as the most accountable figure in this debacle.

Former offensive coordinator Jon Gruden would be the ideal fit for this job next year and beyond.

  29. 2ndaryinsanity says: Dec 2, 2011 8:03 AM

The Eagles would be INSANE to reward Jackson with a big contract! “Me-Jax” has shown his true colors. I don’t care that he’s “only” earning $600,000 this season. This was the terms of his contract…and the way he’s been playing, Jackson hasn’t even earned it. He’s basically been pouting like a 6 year old all season long, and giving a half-ass effort. He wants to be paid like a top 5 receiver, but won’t play like one. If the Eagles do pay him, there’s a good chance Jackson pulls a “Fat Albert.”….just another guy who becomes lazy because he got handed a huge payday and coasts after that.”

“I’m not answering none of that type of question”

What’s the problem, based on that double negative statement he is happy to answer the question.

The eagles knew they got a POS the first time he threw the ball down before crossing the goal line. They just spent years polishing a turd who makes TO and Moss look like locker room captains.

  35. holeinone09 says: Dec 2, 2011 8:19 AM

Not an Eagles fan but live in Philly area, and am infuriated for Eagles fans who have to put up with a jackass like Jackson. While he is underpaid for how he performed in prior years, his attitude is horrible. He is a selfish spoiled brat punk who thinks he is entitled. Last night, it looked like he couldn’t care less if the Eagles won or lost. He completely gave up on his own team. Now, is that somebody you want in the trenches fighting with you? I wouldn’t care if he was the most gifted player on the planet. I would rather him play for an opponent, and then get pleasure out of waiting for him to come over the middle.

At least TO gave you 150% everytime he was on the field, even if he was unhappy. This guy is a joke.

If I was Reid, I would sit him down for the rest of the season. If he plays, it means nothing to the Eagles season now, they are out of it. They needed him the last few games, and he didn’t deliver.

  36. slowclyde86 says: Dec 2, 2011 8:23 AM

mlc—you must be joking. He is pouting like a spoiled brat. He may or may not have some reason to have hurt feelings, but this is not how a pro should behave. You do your job and move on as able if you are unhappy. He is killing his team, his teammates and his fans. Pathetic.

Its hard to anything new about this jackass. I just wonder if he is listening to anybody. His actions are not only costing him money but also his agent as well. I would thing that his agent would tell him that if he does not perform at a high level this year that other teams will look at the Chris Johnson contract and not want to be the next Titan’s franchise writing a check for potential.

I will be surprised if he is offered a multi-year deal. His skill set is not so great that anyone would want to put up with his crap.

  40. moseszd says: Dec 2, 2011 8:29 AM

The Eagles have one of the better front offices in football. Rarely do they make signing mistakes with thier own players. That they’ve not been interested in resigning Jackson is a major red flag.

And, as a person who’s watched him play, I get it. He makes a few highlight catches and they connect on a few low-probability, big-impact plays. But he’s a guy who is pretty much unreliable as a WR, lacks toughness and has dubious hands coupled with a me-first, selfish attitude.

It’s also why, I suspect, the Eagles drafted Maclin. Which is why Maclin, despite Jackson’s big rookie stats, was made the #1 WR.

Which is why Avant, with far less talent, is getting the looks and throws. And why Avant got the new contract…

And why Jackson is the Ashlie Lelie/TO hybrid of the Eagles…

  41. chas88 says: Dec 2, 2011 8:31 AM

  42. theslick50 says: Dec 2, 2011 8:31 AM

It looks like he’s dealing with some sort of hamstring injury, he limped around all night. Maybe the gameplan was for him to be a decoy, take the CB and safety long, play all underneath.

“What if your employer decided to give raises to a few people at your job and not you.”

Happens every day in America. He signed the contract. You finish it out performing like the “pro” you are and another employer, who realizes your value, pays you top dollar while you explain to your old employer you needed to leave to advance your career. You do NOT sabotage your own future by acting like an ass while all the other “employers” can watch you on national TV.

    Fact!

  52. FinFan68 says: Dec 2, 2011 8:45 AM

Jackson is a talented punk. Except for the anti-bullying thing, he is the epitome of what is wrong with many professional athletes. Maybe we should start categorizing some of these guys as “paid” athletes because there is nothing “professional” about what he is doing. Yes, he deserved a better deal and he could have gotten one but he is ruining that chance every day with his attitude and actions. Football is a team sport and he has no concept of teamwork. It’s all about him and if he isn’t happy he becomes a noteworthy distraction. At this point, he would not be worth the franchise tag $.

The Eagles have a lot of guys that play mediocre with an occasional flash of greatness. In order to win those guys need to shine at the same time and thus they can’t be consistent. Run the ball more and the Eagles will win more.

  53. derekjetersmansion says: Dec 2, 2011 8:47 AM

He’s never lost this much in his career (life), so he’s obviously frustrated.

Vince Young, ideally, isn’t a starter in this league; on a supposed good team.

This is what happens when a normally good, competent team starts losing, It snowballs.

The Philly media wants all of them gone, which is unfair.

Reid should get one more chance, but that’s it. Howie Roseman is more to blame for this, to me.

  54. pleasantsurpriselefty says: Dec 2, 2011 8:49 AM

This is the best way to get a raise? The sad thing is that some disfunctional team will pay him secure in the belief that they can bring him around. He is so screwed up even Bill Belichick couldn’t save him. What a little twit. One of these days one of his teammates is going to punch him out.

  55. pigskinswag says: Dec 2, 2011 8:52 AM

It’s hard to believe this guy wants Larry Fitzgerald type money. I’ve always said that Jeremy Maclin is a better COMPLETE receiver. Sure Jackson has all the speed in the world, and is a dynamic return man, but his alligator arms, his lack of desire to be hit, and his lack of desire to behave like an intelligent rational human being and teammate would make that a horrible investment. The Eagles should let this guy walk and let someone else overpay him.

  56. jeffro33 says: Dec 2, 2011 8:55 AM

DeSean Jackson is the Eagles’ version of Allen Iverson…

The Eagles’ history will re-signing players suggests that they will let him walk for nothing – they almost always sign their young stars long-term before letting them reach their walk year….

    See ya 10…

  57. v2the4 says: Dec 2, 2011 8:58 AM

Desean has played his way out of Philly for sure….I guess he can go to Miami or San Fransisco or Arizona or wherever he thinks someone will pay him for his lack of skills…..

that last INT that Vince threw last night was his fault…should have never been thrown, but at least two of those interceptions were balls that should have been caught by Cooper and Avant…perfectly thrown balls that the receivers dropped….

  58. east96st says: Dec 2, 2011 9:02 AM

“Maybe the gameplan was for him to be a decoy, take the CB and safety long, play all underneath.”

Yes, that’s it. It can’t possibly be a guy that has behaved like an ass his entire career was behaving like an ass. He was a decoy! On another subject, if you’re looking for a recession proof investment, I have a bridge I need to sell to pay for my mom’s hospital bills. Normally, I wouldn’t dream of selling it, but I really love my mom and this is emergency, so the price will never be lower than it is today.

    Scared.

If anyone saw the play where he took the handoff to go right, stopped, went back inside and dove forward for like 3 yards before any contact knows exactly what i mean. At least try to hit the hole and maybe break a tackle or get a few more yards. That dive was like a quarterback. Pathetic. And dont blame your size. Brandon Banks in DC, Percy Harvin in Minnesota, Wes Welker and Danny Woodhead in NE, they all are small and and dont play the game scared.

  71. seacolt213 says: Dec 2, 2011 9:34 AM

I’m going to assume a lot of these comments are from east coast fans but I think everyone is totally over reacting. He’s having a bad season during his contract year and he’s acting like a baby about it… But he’s still a KID! Dude is a phenomenal athlete, he just needs a vet around to show him how to be a man in the NFL both on and off the field (not Vick and Philly ain’t got any other vets to relate to D Jack). I think a place like Pittsburgh or Indy where Hines Ward or Reggie Wayne could show him how to be, would be a great fit. He will still get a good contract as football execs have just as big of an ego as the players and will think “he won’t act the fool in MY program”

Desean deserves what he’s going to get now, he’ll be screwed around with and f’d out of his window for a payday.

Eagles FO needs to get some discipline against them, but unfortunately it’ll never happen as they have the control in these situations. They brought this on themselves.

This entire Eagles team sucks, not just Desean. I’ve never worked a job where I was aware that inferior employees made 10 times my salary. While I believe I would handle it better than Desean; I dont think its as easy to deal with as some of you make it seem.

  80. thridandlong says: Dec 2, 2011 10:01 AM

DeSean Jackson…. a classic example of why an orga*m should be swallowed !

  81. quittsburghstoolers says: Dec 2, 2011 10:06 AM

Why are there so many divas playing at the WR position?

Jeez, why can’t these guys check their attitudes at the door and just play ball…

  82. sdffa11 says: Dec 2, 2011 10:13 AM

let him screw over himself. i hope he knows other NFL GMs are watching him play (or not play)

  83. bhindenemylines says: Dec 2, 2011 10:20 AM

“I’m not answering none of that type of question,” Jackson said, via NFL Network. “If you’re going to ask something about the game, do that. You’re asking questions that don’t even mean nothing. Next question.”

How did DeSean even get into college?

Somewhere, his high school english teacher is crying…

  84. petthefurrywall says: Dec 2, 2011 10:28 AM

The Hoodie would have already cut him….

Now they need to sign Rolando McClain…

  86. realnflmaster says: Dec 2, 2011 10:40 AM

Uncivilized zoo animals, that’s what that team has become. I feel bad for Andy, one of the best coaches in the league and idiot accountants like Joe Banner sign all these high profile guys year, after year, after year, and they never pan out.

Can’t wait for Andy to finally go to a real organization and watch the Eagles go back to where they belong. 5 wins consistently every single season.

  87. fcs34 says: Dec 2, 2011 10:52 AM

Wow a team stocked with narrsicistic, selfish palyers being led by a sciopathic ex criminal with an enabling head coach fails to produce. Go figure.

  88. rabidbillsfan says: Dec 2, 2011 10:55 AM

Considering he won one of the biggest games of the year for the Eagles single handedly should result in a pay bump. The team will finish 7-9, or worse, so why should he care? No one else on that team does, the coach doesn’t care enough to hire a true defensive cordinator. The back-up QB didn’t care enough to try and learn the playbook beofre the 8th week of the season. The high profile FA pickups didn’t try to conform their game to the system THEY signed in to. He will go elsewhere, sign a 1 yr $2mil deal, light it up, and then sign a multi-year deal, probably with the Skins or Cowboys, just to light up the Eagles twice a year. Desean may not be the most popular guy for how this is going down, but he is doing what is best for him and whom ever picks him up will be getting a motivated individual, even if it is money motivation.

  89. rabidbillsfan says: Dec 2, 2011 10:56 AM

Just to clarify, that game was last years Eagles- Giants game.

  90. mwcarolina says: Dec 2, 2011 11:05 AM

i understand his issues with the media, i really do, BUT he has to realize that he’s causing this. he should know that he’s going to be asked if he’s unhappy when he looks unhappy or looks like he’s not even talking with his teammates.

  91. trf8 says: Dec 2, 2011 11:06 AM

TO all over again with the only differnce being TO wasn’t affraid to actually catch the ball…good luck getting that contract you want Desean.

  92. cornersportsnet says: Dec 2, 2011 11:36 AM

Hell yeah hes unhappy stupid question, think about Vince Young makes more money than DJ,ronnie brown makes more money than DeJack .Wouldnt you be pissed if you were a lawyer at a firm and the mailroom guy made more than you

  93. hehateu says: Dec 2, 2011 11:43 AM

those who think Jackson wont get paid are fooling yourselves-Talent trumps everything in the NFL . million to one that next year that jackson will be on another team with a fat contract. And on a similiar note, where is the outrage when an player give his all to a team-gets hurt and then is cut.

  94. mexicomarlin says: Dec 2, 2011 11:50 AM

Maybe his speed will come in handy when he’s selling insurance in Doylestown.

  95. hard2getausername says: Dec 2, 2011 11:53 AM

I feel for Forte and Jackson. Guys played their hearts out for their organization and then the organization wants an elite player at bargain price. Sometimes it comes back to bite. In this case the Eagles are getting the bargain player they’re paying for. Someone else will take a chance on Jackson. Won’t be as big of a contract as he could have gotten but you’ll bet he’ll get paid by somebody.

  96. jhumbe says: Dec 2, 2011 12:02 PM

    ME-SEAN says it all

  97. bobbyhoying says: Dec 2, 2011 12:18 PM

Drew taught him well. He actually said “next question.” Drew is about to make no money from this guy. Teams are sick of Divas.

  98. rabidbillsfan says: Dec 2, 2011 1:17 PM

Really? Teams are sick of Divas? Chad Johnson just sucked $6mil out of Krafts pocket, how’s that for being sick of Divas? Teams are sick of 33+ year old WO’s with limited production and baggage that include injury concerns, not 25 year old WO who can blow the top off defense and change the game with the ball in his hands. Will he ever be a #1 guy? No, but for the 5 good years he should have left, he will be a nightmare for oppossing D cordinators. To say he won’t get paid is just plain stupidity.
