Josh Freeman throws at practice, status still uncertain

Here’s what we know about the Buccaneers’ starting quarterback this Sunday: His first name will be Josh.

Whether his last name is Freeman or Johnson will be decided on Sunday morning. Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times reports that Freeman was able to throw passes for the first time this week at practice on Friday, but there won’t be a determination about the starter until the team sees what he’s able to do before the game with the Panthers. Freeman injured his right shoulder at the end of last week’s loss to the Titans and the team has been preparing Johnson to start if necessary.

“I did a littleĀ bit, but today really isn’tĀ important,” Freeman said. “Same status. I’m just listening to the trainers and trying to ease into it, you know?”

Freeman has started the last 35 games for the Bucs, who will be trying to avoid falling into a tie for last place with the Panthers on Sunday.

Don’t worry, the Bucs are playing against the Panthers’ defense. It’s the Panthers’ offense they need to more concerned with. The defense may not even touch whichever Josh plays.

There is clearly a reason why the Panthers are 3-8 and it’s not because the offense isn’t scoring.

Bring on the Josh Johnson era… again! Maybe it will kickstart Freeman if he is benched. I don’t care that he is injured, when I tell the story later he will have been benched.

Josh Johnson sat quietly for 3+ years doing as told. That is long enough. JJ will be a free agent at the end of the year. Give JJ a chance to showcase his skills for Seattle.
