Chris Johnson goes off again, Titans stay alive in AFC playoff race

Chris Johnson AP

Chris Johnson is finally running like a big-money back. The question in Tennessee is whether Johnson’s offensive production has come too late for the Titans to make a run at the playoffs.

Johnson picked up 153 yards on Sunday at Buffalo, as the Titans won 23-17, and after an extremely slow start to the season, Johnson has now put up his two best games in the last two weeks.

Unfortunately for the Titans, the AFC South-leading Texans keep on winning, despite being down to their third-string quarterback, which means it’s still going to be tough for the Titans to catch up in the division. The best chance the Titans have of making the playoffs now is as a wild card, where at 7-5 they’re still in the hunt.

As for the Bills, it’s hard to believe they looked like playoff contenders a month ago. Buffalo has lost five in a row.

But the Titans are absolutely playoff contenders. Especially if Johnson keeps running like he has the last two weeks.

    I’ll be 100% honest, I’m a huge CJ2K fan, so I’m glad to see him back in form.

    Chris Johnson is Proven talent and has earned every penny he’s been paid.

    Chris Johnson 6-year $53.5 million
    2008 1,228 yards second in AP rookie of the year
    2009 2,006 yards one of only six player in NFL history
    2010 1364 yards
    3 PRO BOWLS

    UnProven Contracts
    Ryan Fitzpatrick, 6-year, $59 million
    Matt Cassel 6-year, $62.7 million
    Kevin Kolb 5-year, $63 million contract

    Who would you rather have on your team? Those Quarterbacks or these running backs? Case Closed

    Proven Underpaid
    Arian Foster, Matt Forte (injured), Fred Jackson (injured)
    This is why THEY HOLD OUT!

    Titans will make playoffs! I wouldn’t be surprised if they win the division in the final game against Texans, Go Titans

    They’d be an interesting sleeper team in the playoffs with Hasselbeck as their QB if Johnson keeps it up.

    CJ2k is starting to prove all the haters wrong.I hope he keeps up at this pace to show that he wasent in just for the money.

    There is a provision in his contract that he could have been cut with no guaranteed money if he didn’t rush for 1000 yards this season.

    Apparently he didn’t realize this right away (his agent informed him) and, well now we see the result.

    houston can’t lose the division unless they lose out or tennessee wins out. Titans have the saints and houston has the colts so neither will happen.

    @cityofsharks

    Are you serious? You’ve seen the crazy scenarios right, which are even crazier after today? The Texans need to bomb out, including a loss to the Colts. No chance.

    @KIR..
    It’s Chris Johnson’s holdout that will likely cost TN a playoff spot. I absolutely will never understand a fan that supports actions detrimental the team.
    Lame with a cap L..

    Teams will start STACKING the box and shut this dude down in the coming games this year…Mark that down!

    CJ has looked really good in the past 5 games now, with 550 yards on 99 carries and 5.5 YPC. and 3 TD’s.

    I’m glad he’s finally synced up with his line and I’ll continue to laugh at all the people who thought a 26 year old who ran for 4500 yards in his first 3 years career was over and he gave up and didn’t care.

    Anyone who actually watched every run by him noticed he was a little hesitant and his line was downright awful (and they’re still not that good but better, vs Atlanta he was hit in the backfield on 6 of 12 carries), hopefully they draft some interior o-lineman in the offseason if we want to see the CJ of the past 5 weeks.
