ReutersOn Thanksgiving, Lions running back Kevin Smith had much for which to be thankful. Four days earlier, he accounted for 201 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns after waiting for weeks for another shot at an NFL job.
By the end of the day, he likely was muttering, “Thanks for nothing.”
Smith suffered a sprained ankle against the Packers. Initially described as a high ankle sprain, we reported on Friday that it was a mild injury and that he could be back by Week 13.
Smith is listed as questionable. Per a league source, Smith is indeed expected to play tonight when the Lions face the Saints in New Orleans.
With Jahvid Best gone for the year, the Lions desperately need some punch in the running game. Without it, too much pressure is placed on quarterback Matthew Stafford, who can’t navigate sustained drives without making a mistake.

He must be considered a dirty player also, since he’s fighting through the pain to be able to play tonite.
Good for him. Saints will still score more points than the lions.
I hope this is one of those really sneaky injury cover-ups…I’d love to start K. Smith tonight and bench Mo Morris! Plus, the K. Smith interview after his huge breakout was honest and raw. He was so thankful to be back with just a chance. Then seeing him ride off on that cart sucked. I’d like to see him fulfill his potential. This guy seems like a good dude.
won’t matter lions lose by 14 !
hope he doesn’t crash his car after the game lol
Still one of the only players on that 0-16 team that legitimately cared and tried every week. Awful that he got hurt after another hot start vs green bay this guy is tough should fight through it for a nice game tonight the lions will need it with their other injury concerns
Can’t believe this guy sprained his ankle. Just another reason why the lions, as a team, are dirty. Cmon Linehan, learn to control your players.
