oh yeah, it helps that Dalton is throwing to WRs A.J. Green (2011 #4 overall pick) and Jerome Simpson (2010 2nd rounder) and TE Jermaine Gresham (2010 1st rounder).

Simpson was a 3rd round pick that Cincy jumped on early. He wasn’t projected to go until the fourth. Jordan Shipley is a second rd pick but is on IR at moment. And it’s Jay Gruden the OC for the Bengals not his brother John the ex-Bucs coach.

Not sure why Jay is getting the hate here. Jay is a very good coach and has been for quite sometime. Don’t let the Arena League stuff get in the way. You still have to know football and Jay was probably in the top 2 coaches alltime in the Arena League. What people may not know is that his father is or was a longtime scout. The Grudens know football.

If Mike Sherman can work under a strong general manager, he’d make a good coach. He was a good coach in Green Bay. His failure came from poor drafting. X’s & O’s, he’s go it down.

Gee, I wish there was a similar occupation out there for women where we could get paid millions of dollars, do a poor job in front of the entire nation, get fired, and then picked up again by another employer anxious to pay us millions of dollars for the same thing.

What else is new in the coaching carousel of the NFL? And I love the way Jay Gruden is suddenly a potential head coach based on the success of Andy Dalton which seems to be coincidental. Remember, Gradkowski was supposed to start because he knew Jay Gruden’s offense inside and out after playing under him for three years in Tampa. Why didn’t that work out for Gruden? And remember that Dalton was the most accurate QB in the draft and accuracy makes any QB look good – even without good coaching.

freewayjim beat me to it. came here to say the same thing but hey it might not be such a bad idea. Biggest reason hes done so bad this year is he is trying to radically change the offensive scheme when its built for something else. thats whats lead to all the talk about how the falcons cant seem to figure out what their identity is… everyone knows what it is except mularkey. thats why it goes better when Matt starts callin the plays. Now look at the Jaguars who seem in dire need of a radical change… Mularkey obviously has the balls to try (though he hasnt figured out when to just say no). So yea if the Jags take him heres to hoping his 1st idea for change works out cause otherwise they might be shopping for another coach before he realizes adjustments are needed.

Jay Gruden is Jon’s brother and the offensive coordinator for Cincinnati and he happens to be developing a young QB named Andy Dalton. However, in addition to the reading mistake (which might be forgivable considering I often skim this site as opposed to reading it as well) you also blame Jon Gruden for not developing Shaun King who was playing in Tampa Bay when Tony Dungy was coaching there. You should be banned from posting on here for double missing on that comment. You suck.

And Mike Sherman deserves another chance. He was 57-39 in Green Bay and had 4 straight double digit winning seasons. He has a little Schottenheimer in him as far as his playoff record goes but I would take him rebuilding a team. Jacksonville, the Sugar Bear is your man.

A few comments on all of the coaches mentioned. Gruden makes sense because his brother is important part of a media giant so I will get points by saying this. Oh and what QB has he developed, Dalton don’t count, not even a year don’t equal develop. Mularky, anyone who has had Malarky ( Buffalo, Miami, Atlanta) knows his magic wears out. If you want to know what hand MJD would throw a pass with Mike is your guy. Mike Sherman Ok I’ll give you this one, so you are 1-3. I say Jacksonville goes cheap and promotes from within, You heard it here 1st.

I know you haven’t commented yet but i’ve noticed you troll on numerous Texans posts. A couple of questions for you, how do you feel about Mike Mularkey as head coach? I ask that because, well, Wade Phillips held the Falcons offense to 10 pts. By the way, they have a multitude of weapons on offense, most notably a QB who isn’t Blaine Gabbert. That has to count for something. By the way, will you still root for the Jaguars when they move to LA? I’ve noticed you bash Houston for losing an NFL franchise. However, you fail to realize when the Jags leave, Jacksonville is never getting another NFL team again, period. Anyways, I’m going to really enjoy this AFC South championship(something the Jags have never done), no matter how many times you try to rationalize it. Best of luck!

Boy, Fisher’s name sure doesn’t seem to come up as much as you think it would. And even when it does it seems like he’s the third or fourth guy mentioned. I wonder why?

People, LA will get the CHARGERS. The Jags lease is rock solid. They are going nowhere. Kinda like their offense. No ‘up and coming’ coaches. We can’t afford to take talent like we have and give a newbie a chance. I’d be ok with Jeff Fisher, Andy Reid (if he becomes available) or a big name. No college guys. Someone with a proven offensive record. Ugh, they’re gonna blow this decision, I can feel it!

Good grief, Mike Sherman? Seriously? Guy just got fired from Texas A&M! Who in their right mind thinks he’d be a viable option as an NFL head coach again? He was an awful GM and a mediocre head coach in the NFL and college. Don’t let his 3 straight NFC North titles in the early 2000′s fool you. Packers took advantage of a bad division a lot of those years and never got past the divisional round. His 2-4 playoff record speaks for itself.

He’d be fine as a position coach, but he should never touch another NFL head coaching job again.
