Wow. As a Colts I’ve got say this comes off very SELFISH…. PEYTON MANNING is the Indianapolis Colts!!!!! Can’t imagine him not wanting to groom his succesor. Manning his that city’s heartbeat (charitable work, childrens hospitals, hosting highschool football games at Lucas Oil.) He has made a new rich contract going into a season I think he and the Colts knew he wouldn’t play in! But now Archie (his spokesperson) says that he talked to Oliver Luck and everybody is in agreement that Andrew is ready to play now. Peyton this will probably never make it to you but, wow for all you’ve done and as one who lived 45 min away from Colts games on Sunday this is sad!!!!!!!

I don’t think this is restricted to the Mannings. I’ve said all along Oliver Luck is not going to want his son sitting on the bench for years learning behind Peyton.

Andrew was considered more ready to start than any of last years drafted QBs and several of them seem to be doing quite fine already. So why would Oliver want his son to sit while less ready QBs gather experience, notoriety, fame, endorsements, etc?

I think Archie’s comment about speaking to Oliver is his way of letting the Colts know they are both on the same page and are in all likelihood standing unitied on this front.

The leverage they hold over the Colts (if Peyton & Andrew both feel the same way) is there’s no way the Colts can afford to have their two faces of the organization both angry & upset at the same time. It would surely cause serious damage and poison the entire organization.

Besides, the Colts have quite a few holes to fill and having potentialy two top-tier QBs (with one on the bench) doesn’t solve those problems. Compounding the difficulties of the situation is Barkley & Griffen III, in scouting circles, have closed the gap with Luck considerably. Teams may decide to shoot for them instead; give up less to get them, thus keeping more of their picks to help continue to build their teams.

The Colts may not end up in such an enviable position after all.

Im trying to figure out what everyone’s thinking. Manning won’t waste his last 2-3 seasons that he has left, going to a poor team like the Jags, Washington, etc. What’s more likely is Luck refusing to play for Indy. I just dont see Manning leaving unless its a very good contending team.

Luck shoulda came out last year…serves him, his dad, Peyton, and Archie right with the crap they pulled last year. Now the Panthers got Cam, and they couldnt be happier. Luck will be good but he’s no Cam. Turns out the ones that won were the Panthers and Cam!

The Colts need to do what is best long term for their organization. It will obviously hurt to let a legend go, but as the saying goes, better to let go a year early than keep around too long or something like that.

I’d expect to see Peyton sign with a team like the 49ers. Still don’t believe Smith is a franchise qb.

I could also see him going to the Ravens. He’d be a drastic upgrade of Flacco if even for a short time.

If Romo lets down again in the playoffs this year, I could also see the Cowboys making a move.

Peyton will want to go to a contender. He’s not going to the Browns, Cardinals, Dolphins, or Seahawks.

I’m 39 years old, and would be PISSED if either one of my parents presumed to speak for me. Since Archie continues to do this, Eli and Peyton must be okay with it. Pretty sad when grown men hide behind daddy and let him be the bad guy.
Peyton has ALWAYS been about Peyton…why would he all of a sudden do what’s best for the Colts organization? The Colts gave him that new contract for one of two reasons: they acted in good faith, believing Peyton’s neck would not keep him from playing (despite the fact he hadn’t even been cleared to practice) OR they were just complete idiots (pretty likely,considering how the wheels have come off when Manning wasn’t masking a TON of problems).
If Peyton can’t control his Favre-like ego, and believes that he should dictate who the Colts do/don’t draft…they should cut their losses and move on.
Either way, I have ZERO respect for Eli and Peyton allowing their daddy fight their battles.

They are getting paid huge money to play friggin football. I am pretty sure after a good cry they will both get over it and learn how to live on with tens of millions of dollars in their pockets.

Ideally the Colts would like to have Peyton for one more year to help mentor Luck but with $28 million payout coming soon, it will be the Colts decision to make. Although I bet they will try to offer a much smaller amount and then make Peyton out to be the bad guy if he decides to rebuff the reduced offer. Polian will pull out all of the PR tricks to put pressure on Manning to take a reduced salary. Otherwise they will have no money to sign some quality players that they need badly. Luck is just one piece of the puzzle for a team that needs to upgrade at offensive line, receiver, running back, secondary, linebacker, defensive tackle, etc.

The Eagles should either trade with the Colts for the rights to draft Luck as the #1 pick or trade for Manning to try to finally bring a Super Bowl to Philly.
Either way, it would make Eagles fans happy.
Its obvious that nothing good is ever going to happen with Mike Vick at QB, so its time for the Eagles front office to REALLY play fantasy football.

With the exception of Roger Staubach, Hall of Fame quarterbacks tend to make poor mentors (Favre, Montana, Bradshaw, etc.)

Anyways, there’s 2 ways I see this playing out. Luck is drafted by Indy and Manning is traded for players and/or draft picks. Or Indy trades the first pick for players and/or draft picks and drafting a QB later in the 1st round. Just my opinion of what will happen.

In my opinion, Manning can’t go to another team and hope to get anywhere near a Superbowl (unless as a fan) in the next 3 years. Reason being, the Colts offense is a system and as we’re seeing this year, it’s not a simple system. Might help explain 0-12.

If he were to go to another team, how many offensive lines can adapt to hurry up offense for the entire game? How long for the other team to get the right mix of receivers? How long to get the connection and timing with the receivers?

Peyton is going to retire a Colt either in 2012 due to the injury or he’ll play it out. If he can play and if Luck wants to wait, the Colts draft him. Otherwise trade Luck to fill the needed holes. If Peyton’s done, draft Luck and move on.

If Peyton leaves he’ll be going to the Chiefs, Jets or 49ers. He won’t go to some crappy team…he wouldn’t do it by choice & there’s no way the Colts would do that to him. He’ll probably agree to delayed payment of his bonus, so the team has more time to evaluate his condition, and has an opportunity to trade him.

Kansas City makes the most sense for Manning…they have about $30m in cap room available so money isn’t an issue, and they have young talent on both sides of the ball so it would be an attractive place from his perspective as well.

It’s always up to the older player to make the effort have a relationship with the younger player. From day 1, Lord Favre made it clear he hated Aaron Rodgers and refused to mentor, talk to, give advice, or train. Rodgers got along famously with every single player not named Favre. Meanwhile Brett had his own locker room and parking spot, alienating most of his teammates with his gigantic ego and tearing apart the organization with his constant retirements.

I really hope Peyton doesn’t tarnish his legacy like Brett Favre by letting his ego from his gigantic head get in the way of the good of the team. He already robbed the Colts by signing that huge contract knowing full well he wasn’t going to play this year.

The fact is that Archie gave his opinion about a situation where his opinion is of zero consequence. There is absolutely nothing to suggest that Archie speaks for Peyton.
