Jared Allen explains punching Ray Edwards “square in the wiener”

Getty Images

A video has been making the rounds lately that shows Jared Allen appearing to punch Falcons defensive end Ray Edwards in the crotch during a field goal attempt.

Allen was the Vikings long snapper that day after starter Cullen Loeffler got hurt. Florio had Allen on PFT Live Tuesday and got the explanation.

“Ray is obviously a former teammate and friend of mine.  I told him before the snap that he’s known for blowing up the long snapper on the field goal,” Allen said.”

“So I told him: ‘You run me over here, I’m going to punch you square in your wiener, dude.'”

And so that’s exactly what Allen did. We’ll let Jared explain the rest below.

(You can check out Allen’s entire interview here or download the show on iTunes.)

My favorite part was when he punched him in the wiener.

  2. CKL says: Dec 6, 2011 3:11 PM

    HAHAHHA that’s priceless.

  3. reasonsimadrunk says: Dec 6, 2011 3:16 PM

Ironic the punishment for roughing the snapper is a punch in the weiner.

    Just saying…

  4. megatronlegacy says: Dec 6, 2011 3:17 PM

If he were on the Lions there would be an uproar about dirtiness and lack of discipline.

  5. joekappedyourass says: Dec 6, 2011 3:17 PM

    love this dude

  6. 28for20 says: Dec 6, 2011 3:18 PM

Hey, if you can’t punch your buddy in the wiener, who can you punch there? After all, he did warn him!

  7. sbxxix says: Dec 6, 2011 3:23 PM

Hahaha that’s cool. It reminds me of stuff that would go on in high school when I would play Junior high friend who attended different high schools. It’s cool to see pros have fun like this

He’s just adding to his “sack” stats.

  10. massivedick says: Dec 6, 2011 3:31 PM

seriously? Acrhie Manning? … WTF cares what Archie thinks? Why is this news?

  11. swill881 says: Dec 6, 2011 3:31 PM

It’s comical hearing Allen reference wiener, not so much when you try and replicate it in the title of the article.

  12. phonymcringring says: Dec 6, 2011 3:32 PM

Jeff Triplette and Packers fans find the video inconclusive.

  13. gb4mn0 says: Dec 6, 2011 3:35 PM

Allen has a fixation on that particular appendage. He’s the guru of the gender bending Helga hat wearing lavender Larry stooges.

  14. canadianvikingfaniii says: Dec 6, 2011 3:39 PM

That made me laugh. That is messed up, but funny none the less. At least they are friends, but I got to ask. What is with Vikings defensive ends and groin shots? I’m starting to think Ray wanted it too, after all Jared did warn him what he would do.

  15. dannyreneau says: Dec 6, 2011 3:39 PM

nothing like a wiener punch between two friends

  16. ghostofgilchrist says: Dec 6, 2011 3:42 PM

Ironic that the advertisement that preceded the video was Suh’s Subway commercial.

  17. johnnycamparm says: Dec 6, 2011 3:43 PM

Awesome! I love this guy. I just watched him blow up Johnny Knoxville several times on Jackass 3 last night.

  18. rabidbillsfan says: Dec 6, 2011 3:45 PM

This is awesome. I have always liked Jared Allen, he takes the game as it is, a game. He also backs up his “Antics” with amazing play. He deserves better than a team with a losing record, but if he can keep it up, Ponder, Allen, AP and Harvin may be able to help turn things around in the great white north.

  19. d3murf says: Dec 6, 2011 3:46 PM

I wish the Vikings would take Ray Edwards back. He’s an nonathletic bust here in Atlanta. I always thought “Robison” was a better player than him when he was a Viking. Now we’re stuck with this dude. Please concentrate on drafting a DE with our first pick next year.

  20. orangeflh says: Dec 6, 2011 3:46 PM

I hate that buck-toothed hillbilly just a little bit less after reading this.

  21. localoutlaw says: Dec 6, 2011 3:46 PM

    This is kind of gay…

  22. mvp43 says: Dec 6, 2011 3:49 PM

Inside joke, sort of like AJ Hawk flipping his teammates off………….they just all love each other and that makes me feel good.

  23. touchdownroddywhite says: Dec 6, 2011 3:50 PM

I’m pretty sure this wasn’t a big deal, not because it wasn’t the lions but instead because Jared and Ray are long time friends….

  24. chris6523 says: Dec 6, 2011 3:51 PM

If he were on the Lions there would be an uproar about dirtiness and lack of discipline.

It would be fine with me if the Lions decide that they don’t have a lack of discipline. If they ever do develop discipline, they might be dangerous

  25. easyeddie says: Dec 6, 2011 3:56 PM

At least he didn’t hog tie his wiener.

  26. turk2875 says: Dec 6, 2011 4:05 PM

    Egh, fair enough.

  27. bigvinnyinjax says: Dec 6, 2011 4:06 PM

I have to admit, this is the most intriguing headline I have ever read.

  28. norseyapper says: Dec 6, 2011 4:07 PM

megatronlegacy says: “If he were on the Lions there would be an uproar about dirtiness and lack of discipline.”

No, if it were a lions player he would have grabbed the said weiner, twisted it into a bow, slammed its head to the ground several times, then would have performed a reverse stomp on the remains.

  29. waxdaclam says: Dec 6, 2011 4:10 PM

the ol’ “take a bow” gag… Nothing like making a friend feel like he’s gonna puke for a few minutes…

  30. lionsfanatic84 says: Dec 6, 2011 4:17 PM

SUSPEND HIM!!! ………oh wait, hes not a lion

  31. titan40 says: Dec 6, 2011 4:44 PM

Is Jared Allen the NFL’s dirtiest player?

  32. vikescry1 says: Dec 6, 2011 4:49 PM

lions fans need to stop crying about your team being treated unfairly, or so u think. as a packers fan i hate jared allen and the vikings. but this was obviously a joke between friends. no issue here. this wasn’t jared stomping on another player who is defensless on the ground. so lions fans get over it and stop your whining. and to the guy who said hogtie his wiener, priceless……

  33. budleydudley says: Dec 6, 2011 5:01 PM

    Another sack for Jared Allen.

  34. chocolatebaconbutter says: Dec 6, 2011 5:21 PM

The headline was even better than the explanation. And the explanation was awesome.

  35. chocolatebaconbutter says: Dec 6, 2011 5:23 PM

This news story was everything I hoped it would be.

  36. turkdaddyflex80 says: Dec 6, 2011 5:46 PM

    Can’t… stop… laughing… in class….

  37. commandercornpone says: Dec 6, 2011 5:57 PM

best story in a long time.

  38. nofunleague says: Dec 6, 2011 6:21 PM

I think this is just hilarious. Ex teammates having a bit of a go.

  39. chocolatebaconbutter says: Dec 6, 2011 6:25 PM

PFT needs a Hall of Fame section. Where all the best posts go to live in immortality. This would be at the top. This and each other “making it rain” and Jarmarcus Russell purple drank posts.

  40. garyman1 says: Dec 6, 2011 7:01 PM

I agree completely with the story as told by Jared…. EXCEPT the part where he said he used the word “wiener”.

  41. whatchutalkinabouthillis says: Dec 6, 2011 7:22 PM

This is by far the best headline you’ve ever put up.

  42. jgrange08 says: Dec 6, 2011 8:57 PM

If punching a friend in the wiener is wrong, I don’t wanna be right

  43. papashaf says: Dec 6, 2011 9:15 PM

I’m sure, as best friends, this will live in their memories as being nuts.

  44. nekelund says: Dec 6, 2011 10:15 PM

Having reviewed the tape, as a Vikings fan, I feel that Roger Goodell has no choice but to suspend Charles Woodson immediately.

  45. keramidas21 says: Dec 6, 2011 11:41 PM

Vikings just love touching guys nuts! First against the Packers and now the Falcons?!

  46. footballhistorian says: Dec 7, 2011 12:06 AM

All I have to say is punching a dude in his sausage is just nuts…

  47. truthserum4u says: Dec 7, 2011 2:45 AM

Some of these comments are almost as funny as the article. Still, I think three of the all-time best were posted on the “Favre will listen to Chicago” thread. Thanks for the laughs guys!

  48. mvp43 says: Dec 7, 2011 11:23 AM

Love that Subway commercial…………..I guess Suh’s watching from the sideline!

  49. samplymale says: Dec 7, 2011 5:44 PM

Am I the only one that thinks he deserves to be suspended for this? This is ridiculous! Just because he has a funny response when asked about it doesn’t change the fact that he punched someone in the satchel. The equity in suspensions and fines in this league is a joke.

  50. rabidbillsfan says: Dec 8, 2011 2:00 PM

You Sir, deserve a punch in the weiner.

  51. goindy2006 says: Dec 10, 2011 8:07 AM

At least he didn’t punch him in the doodads… not that really hurts!!! ;P

This guy is a nut case and he is awesome!
