Panthers lose two rookie starting defensive tackles

Sione Fua, Terrell McClain AP

The Panthers have been starting two rookies at defensive tackle all year: Terrell McClain and Sione Fua.  It hasn’t worked out so well.

Now things threaten to get worse because both players were placed on injured reserve Tuesday, ending their season.

Both players were third round picks. McClain, who suffered a knee injury, showed some promise during the season.  Fua hurt his hamstring; he looked a little lost most of the year.  The Panthers’ rush defense has struggled, ranking 27th in the league in yards allowed.

Coincidently both injuries occurred simultaneously when the defensive line coach happened to be swinging a baseball bat in the vicinity of the players, in preparation for next year’s soft pitch season.

yeah but those two DT’s didnt really play in the Bucs game, and Neblett and Kearse stepped in and made an impact in the run DEF, but we did jump up to a 14-0 lead before the Bucs even got off the bus.

I wish I had some way of knowing if this really matters or not. I’ll just go with not, to be on the safe side.
