Lance Briggs will be “pissed” if he loses to Tebow

Dexter McCluster, Lance Briggs AP

The Bears just lost to Tyler Palko at home. If they lose to Tim Tebow on the road, Lance Briggs will really go off.

Asked Thursday if he’d be embarrassed if the Bears lost to Tebow in Denver: “No, I will be frickin’ pissed.”

The Bears gave good soundbite on Thursday.  A sampling:

Briggs: “[Tebow] is one heck of a football player and we’re going to have to stop that crap.”

Brian Urlacher on Tebow’s athleticism via the Chicago Tribune: “He’s not Michael Vick.”

Briggs: “Cam Newton’s a better athlete, faster.”

Urlacher on preparing for the Broncos: “We have rules for every offense we play. Carolina ran a similar offense.”

Briggs via ESPN Chicago: “[Defending the option] isn’t rocket scientist . . . er . . . rocket science.”

We don’t find anything inflammatory in the Bears’ words, but the team sounds rather fired up.

This may just be Tebow’s biggest challenge yet. The Bears have the type of disciplined defense with great linebackers that could give Denver problems. Unfortunately for Chicago, the Bears also have Caleb Hanie at quarterback.

Tebow may be no Michael Vick, but Hanie is no Tim Tebow.

“We don’t find anything inflammatory in the Bears’ words”
    ————————————————————-

There’s nothing inflammatory in the responses but there is in the question – who the hell asked it?

Tebow had a near perfect QB rating last week.

Tebow’s not a saint because he thanks God or builds hospitals but because he continues to put up with this nonsense.

Without a doubt I’m taking the under on this one. I smell a 6-3 overtime game. Just sayin

if i were a bears fan i’d hope briggs would be pissed if he loses to anyone.

  5. couldntthinkofaname says: Dec 8, 2011 2:01 PM

Blah, blah whatever. Remember that when you’re in the fourth quarter, winded, and the Broncos are running the ball down your throat.

  6. sterilizecromartie says: Dec 8, 2011 2:01 PM

As a Tebow fan, I have no problem with what Briggs says. He gave Tebow a pretty good compliment (one heck of a player), made an accurate statement that he is not as fast or athletic as Newton, and said he would be pissed if his team lost 3 straight.

    Why is this newsworthy?

  7. buckhuckster says: Dec 8, 2011 2:03 PM

Briggs, I’m going to pissed if you don’t produce any fantasy points in my IDP league playoffs this weekend.

  8. vegaskid21 says: Dec 8, 2011 2:03 PM

You should already be “pissed” Briggs. You just lost at home to the freaking Chiefs man.

  9. xxwhodatxx says: Dec 8, 2011 2:03 PM

He better get ready to get mad then.

  10. scytherius says: Dec 8, 2011 2:03 PM

Of course he’s not Mike Vick. Everyone knows dog killers can’t get into heaven.

  14. lrt79 says: Dec 8, 2011 2:06 PM

If you thought last week was an offensive masterpiece by the Bears and Chiefs, wait until this week. I predict under 300 total yards of offense… combined for both teams.

  15. seatownballers says: Dec 8, 2011 2:07 PM

Dude is gonna be poised then. Chicago is good on defense, but have nothing on offense. Broncos 13-6

If The Broncos beat the bears, Briggs will know how the rest of the league felt when the bears won games with rex grossman and that brian ‘greasy’ guy… it’s embarassing losing to a garbage QB.

  20. melkipertoupee says: Dec 8, 2011 2:09 PM

Briggs is right. Tebow is no Vick…Tebow is a better leader.

  21. severs28 says: Dec 8, 2011 2:09 PM

Not a Tebow fan my any means, but he somehow wins. Ugly as it may be, a W is a W is a W.

Caleb Hanie is not very good. I sense another 4th quarter Tebow drive.

  28. wewantmoretebowandfavrearticles says: Dec 8, 2011 2:13 PM

He won’t lose to Tebow. He’ll lose to Von Miller, Elvis Dumervil, and Champ Bailey demolishing the Bears Offense. As long as the Broncos don’t turn the football over, the Bears will give them the freaking game.

  29. Nevis says: Dec 8, 2011 2:13 PM

Go Bears. Sick of the Tebow talk.

And no, it’s not because I “hate” Tebow. It’s because of the media and the fact I can’t watch a single damn NFL show without them talking about him for half the time, or worse, multiple times throughout the show.

Nothing worse than beating us over the head with the same crap, day after day, week after week.

  30. t16rich says: Dec 8, 2011 2:14 PM

  39. illiniftw says: Dec 8, 2011 2:19 PM

Tell Conte not to knock INT’s out of Urlacher’s hands and we should be fine…

0-0 with neither team getting past their own 40yd line going into overtime sounds about right. Game ends on a Hester return or Tebow miracle drive.

    (lots of Bears stories lately!)

  45. touchdownmypants says: Dec 8, 2011 2:26 PM

This should be there attitude for all games, not just because Tebow is playing. Tebow isn’t a lot of players, not sure why players always say this crap. One thing he is, is bigger than Vick, so have fun bouncing off him.

  46. flybirdsfly says: Dec 8, 2011 2:26 PM

how does Palko score 16 points when he is sacked 6 times?
Tebow doesn’t turn the ball over enough to give the bears 16.

    =============================

Don’t remember anyone talking about Cutler here. But, to your point, the injury Cutler suffered, there is no stability in the knee moving laterally, also planting his foot when throwing.
He played the 2nd quarter and beginning of the 3rd, until he felt it was detrimental to his team to continue playing.

Not catching your point here, but I will say, if you were standing in the pocket, and 300 pound angry men were coming to tear your head off, I am sure you run in the opposite direction and home to mommy !

Tebow’s not a saint because he thanks God or builds hospitals but because he continues to put up with this nonsense.

    ———–

he’s going to have to put up with it until he proves he can beat teams with his arm. for all the people that say that he beat minnesota last week with his arm; i say you didn’t look at the tape closely. i saw at least nine busted coverages and if you look at the completions he made, there wasn’t a corner, safety or linebacker in the picture.

i like tebow and i like what he stands for but there’s a lot of loving going around for a guy that has beaten some average to below average teams…

    Caleb Hanie.

    That is all.

  80. educatedopinion2073 says: Dec 8, 2011 4:51 PM

This is a great board, I love all the responses. Doubting Tebow gives him motivation, not believing that he is a reputable QB is a laugh, considering the wins and his steady improvement. But the best is that this is Denver’s backup QB kicking the crap out of other teams backup QB’s and all you hear is how lucky the Broncos are getting to face teams with injured players. This is the NFL you can either play or not.

If you can’t then draft someone. Caleb Hanie, Tyler Palko, T.J. Yates these are guys that have a job to lead the team if the starting QB gets hurt. guess what starting QB’s get hurt, get a servicable backup, and quit complaining. The Bears should already be ready for this given Cutler going down at the END of last year also.

Poor preparation is just an excuse for ignorant fans. I guess hating Tebow is easier to do than hating yourself, your defense, your team, your coach, your organization for not preparing. Open your eyes and take accountability for how you are.

And the last time I checked Bear’s fans you can’t win games with 0 points.

I think Tebow THROWS for 2 TD’s because your still to focused on stopping his run.

  81. maddbearfan says: Dec 8, 2011 5:07 PM

Hmmmm…funny how everybody beats the crap out of Hanie..yep..he didn’t play real good..but ..he got it right more than a few times and the rest of the offense screwed it up. I think we’re reading him wrong here… I sense he’ll turn it around this week. Gonna be fun to watch!!!!

  82. fwippel says: Dec 8, 2011 5:23 PM

Funny thing is, no one is talking about the Denver defense versus Caleb Hanie. If I were the Broncos and I lost to Hanie, I’d be a whole lot madder than the Bears will be if they lose to Tim Tebow.

Even if the Bears shut down Tebow, the Bronco defense will win this game for Denver. Hanie has been inept beyond words.

Dude what are you talking about? The Raiders are in Green Bay this week and the Broncos don’t play the Chargers again. Carson Palmer gets worse every week. Miami beat the snot out of them. The Raiders might finish 3rd in the division if the Chargers do their usual undefeated December. Denver wins this week will have a tough time against New England but that game is home. They will win at Buffalo and finish at home against the Chiefs (win). The Raiders lose to Green Bay, then play Detroit, KC at arrowhead and the Chargers. Taking bets on who finishes with a better record……

hey broncos fans who’s your punter?? hope he is good or your team is screwed. I do remember the last time bears played the broncos hester had 2 punts returned for a td.

Also the bears defense is top 5 against the run so goodluck running it.

  93. cowhawkfan says: Dec 8, 2011 8:41 PM

At this point, it’s pretty easy to tell who really has a problem with Tebow because of non-football related issues. I mean, the guy has done nothing but win. To continue to criticize his religion or to say he can’t win games with his arm after he just did (oh, right, it wasn’t his arm, it was the busted coverage…) just really shows a person’s ignorance and intolerence. Keep it coming guys…I hope Tebow wins out (pretty sure Broncos can’t be NE) just to spite those of you who are being so…well, spiteful!!

Actually, if Martz doesn’t call that ridiculous screen in the redzone against the raiders, bears are 9-3.

We are losing to inferior competition, and it isn’t just Haines fault.
