Roethlisberger returns after X-rays are negative

Ben Roethlisberger AP

Ben Roethlisberger suffered what appeared to be a nasty injury in the first half Thursday night, but it won’t even keep him out for the rest of the game.

Roethlisberger underwent X-rays on his ankle/leg and Mike Tomlin told NFL Network’s Alex Flanagan that initial test results provided “positive news.”

Flanagan said the team wasn’t sure if Roethlisberger had a high ankle sprain or a lower leg injury. But clearly the injury wasn’t nearly as bad as it initially appeared; Big Ben limped out for the start of the second half, but he looks far from 100 percent.

Pittsburgh still has injury issues. Defensive tackle Ziggy Hood is out for the game due to injury. And center Maurkice Pouncey also underwent X-rays on his injured ankle.

The question now will become whether Roethlisberger can stay in the game and be effective.

    ______________________________

Yes I saw it get twisted, I also noticed that the x-rays are negative….. nothing broken and that it “might be” a high ankle sprain. He is tough just like every NFL player is tough, his ankle got twisted under another player, it’s a physical game and it happens. 30 of 32 QB’s in the NFL would have come back in the game, 4 or 5 would have never left but we slobber all over Ben because he throws is phantom injuries in our face. Pretty much over it.

  58. ravenator says: Dec 8, 2011 11:31 PM

I’ve said it before…I’ll say it again, Ben won’t survive with that patchwork quilt of an offensive line. Pouncey and Hood are who the fans should be truly concerned about. Props to BB for returning but Steelers will not make it to Indy, sorry Pittsburgh.

  71. halftermguv says: Dec 9, 2011 1:32 AM

A negative X-ray means no broken bones nor torn muscles/tendons. An X-ray will not indicate the severity of a sprain.

The drama queen commenters are the same tired scum who spew the same hate filled speech time and time again with zero basis in reality.

The performance of Roethlisberger was Jack Youngblood tough; tape it up and let’s play.

His having his way with several women against their will? That’s pretty legendary.

Haha but seriously, they should be able to beat the Browns with Batch. Risking messing up Ben’s ankle more by bringing him back is pretty risky. I mean…it’s the Browns.

  77. steelersownyou says: Dec 9, 2011 6:46 AM

  78. ravenator says: Dec 9, 2011 7:15 AM

A two TD performance vs the lowly Browns? I gave my props but that performance was so far from legendary as some of you claim. Keep drinking your kool aid. 79. clevefan1 says: Dec 9, 2011 7:35 AM

How does it show that he is tough because he’s playing on an ankle that x-rays came back as negative? The real question should be, if the x-rays are negative then, why he even leave the game in the first place? Pansy…

  81. rmm1984 says: Dec 9, 2011 8:26 AM

Sometimes I really question what is wrong with people. How can you call him a drama queen? Was his ankle twisting a camera trick? Also, he all but quit moving around in the pocket and rolling out. Would he really do that just to fake an injury?

  82. okiesteeler says: Dec 9, 2011 8:27 AM

You idiots who say that the x-rays are negative don’t know anything about ankle injuries. X-rays do not show ankle injuries. The negative x-rays are for anything broken. The MRI will show the high ankle sprain. You people calling him a drama queen who never played football are jokes. I am done wasting my time with you couch potato losers.

    he had injury like symptoms….lol

  85. bristerfan says: Dec 9, 2011 8:47 AM

A couple of things about Ben’s injury. First off, it should’ve never happened. He rolled out of the pocket, almost to the sideline and Brown was covered, he was an open target. No fault of the O-Line at all. He should’ve gotten rid of the ball, or at least tried to scramble. Secondly, I was afraid that he was going to be done for the season after the hit. When your ankle turns at a 90 degree angle to your leg, something has to give (pretty hard to fake that). It shows that he has an unbelievable will to win and help his team. Let’s hope there are no longer term issues. If he has to miss this week, that’s fine. Give Batch 10 days with the first team and he’ll be serviceable.

The biggest concern is Pouncey. That line needs him in there simply because Kemoeatu might be the worst interior offensive lineman in football right now. 3 penalties after Pouncey went out of the game. He’s awful. The Steelers need Legursky at left guard and Pouncey at center. With that lineup, the O-Line is more than capable and I have plenty of faith in them to get the job done.

  86. Kaz says: Dec 9, 2011 8:48 AM

Big Ben has Steeler fans eating out the palm of his hands. Did anyone else see them try to point out all the “injuries” Bathroom Ben was playing with. It’s comical to see the Steeler fans believe him. Big Ben loves the drama, always has. Everytime you guys defend him what does he do? Come up with another “injury” and then looks like a hero for wining the game. There is a disorder for people who fake a lot of injuries for attention. Look it up.

  87. bangitfootball says: Dec 9, 2011 8:53 AM
