Roethlisberger returns after X-rays are negative

AP

Ben Roethlisberger suffered what appeared to be a nasty injury in the first half Thursday night, but it won’t even keep him out for the rest of the game.

Roethlisberger underwent X-rays on his ankle/leg and Mike Tomlin told NFL Network’s Alex Flanagan that initial test results provided “positive news.”

Flanagan said the team wasn’t sure if Roethlisberger had a high ankle sprain or a lower leg injury. But clearly the injury wasn’t nearly as bad as it initially appeared; Big Ben limped out for the start of the second half, but he looks far from 100 percent.

Pittsburgh still has injury issues. Defensive tackle Ziggy Hood is out for the game due to injury. And center Maurkice Pouncey also underwent X-rays on his injured ankle.

The question now will become whether Roethlisberger can stay in the game and be effective.

  1. Anyone else notice Ben noticably limp to the sideline after the dropped pass, but he seemed ok playaction-ing/stepping into the throw?

  2. Why? Sit on the bench and watch the Browns choke and barf all over themselves. They’ve had every chance in the world to be winning this game. They’re a disaster, and this is coming from a Browns fan, they suck

  3. Seems like an emotional decision that could hurt them in the longer term. Is this game more important than their performance in the Playoffs?

  4. If he was that “tough” why did he leave the game in the first place? Every year he has a phantom injury. Heck, Cower called him out on it one season. I give him credit for the deceptive sportsmanship, however.

You’re right. The man is clearly faking it. Everyone involved in this blatant staging of the fake injury should be fined and maybe even suspended.

I just can’t figure out the motive… oh well!

Raplisburger plays a GAME, and for millions of dollars. It he was sent to fight a war he would be soiling himself hiding up mommies dress !

Can we ban all comments that begin with “Cue?” Please?
    —————————-

Cue the comments about banning the cue-ing of comments.

  8. Him and Tony Romo are the toughest QBs in the league, bar none. And I don’t like either one (even though I’m a Dallas fan).

Got to give credit for that. I just don’t see why he’s in from a coaching standpoint. He can’t pivot well, he’s a risk.

  9. Charlie, with no offensive line!!! I knew this would happen. We have the best QB in the game, and we don’t invest in protecting him.

  10. Can anyone decipher Ed Hoculi’s calls for me. Really, “By not accepting the penalty, there was a better result.” That was completly unnecessary.

    THE undesputed queen of drama!

Nah, I’d think Lady Gaga or Chaz Bono would have to play in the NFL to replace Brett Favre as the King of the NFL Drama Queens.

Exactly….just after he grabs a sanitary napkin on the way to the stretcher !

Really? Your name is thridandlong and you’re making fun of the multi-million-dollar earner on the football field?

    Uh-huh.

    @Bubby Brister …

No, they didn’t see the film. They can’t see anything. They’re all mouth.

  15. Colt Mccoy has the softest arm of any starter. Have they thrown the ball deep all game? Everything is short.

  16. Is anyone else watching what I’m watching? The Cleveland Browns’ coach has to be the dumbest person in world history. Seneca Wallace goes out there for a concussed Colt McCoy, throws a LASER on third down, which gets a first down at the Steelers’ five yard line, and then the coach sends back in Colt McCoy to immediately vomit up the ball all over the field and screw up any chance of victory.

    Sigh.

No Drama! You can clearly see his foot twisted. I bet any of you couch athletes wouldnt be able to go to work the next morning.

    Superbowl LOSS again book it!

  18. All the Ben haters just remember how you acted when a certain “gutsy, courageous leader punctured his lung”….yeah, right

  19. Ballgame ladies! 10-3. on a night when big bens legend grew even more! Sensational. So proud to be a steelers fan!

  20. Drama queen? Did any of you actually see how bad his ankle got twisted?

    ______________________________

Yes I saw it get twisted, I also noticed that the x-rays are negative….. nothing broken and that it “might be” a high ankle sprain. He is tough just like every NFL player is tough, his ankle got twisted under another player, it’s a physical game and it happens. 30 of 32 QB’s in the NFL would have come back in the game, 4 or 5 would have never left but we slobber all over Ben because he throws is phantom injuries in our face. Pretty much over it.

  21. I’ve said it before…I’ll say it again, Ben won’t survive with that patchwork quilt of an offensive line. Pouncey and Hood are who the fans should be truly concerned about. Props to BB for returning but Steelers will not make it to Indy, sorry Pittsburgh.

  22. you have to love ben roethlisbergers need for attention. a bruised ankle. walk it off like every other nfl player does you snapper.

  23. If you want to call Roethlisberger a drama queen because he wants everyone to know that he’s hurt, you’re right.

If you want to call Roethisberger a drama queen because you think he fakes injuries, you’re retarded.

  24. thridandlong ,

My two brothers serve in the military- Army and Navy. They laugh at people like you who get their panties all twisted because someone uses the word “warrior” when referencing an athletes performance. Nobody is ever comparing them to to a soldier, nobody even thinks that. Stop trying to stand up for those in the military from your keyboard, they don’t need your bible waving help.

  25. Harrison hit a QB who went from a runner out of the pocket who decided to throw the ball in a split second. That type of call is a joke. QBs have it both ways.

And so have 4 members of my family…..your point is ?

  27. Hey @trbowman u muted NFL network cause of slobbering from Nessler on Ben
so do you mute NBC-ESPN-FOX etc cause they don’t “Slobber” all over Manning or Tom Bieber Brady etc…wimp

  28. All you haters can say what you will but you all know who the toughest QB in the league is. There are few if any other QBs that would have come back after that injury. Dude IS a warrior and a beast!!! Thats what Steeler Nation is about and all you haters can kiss my Flacco!!!

  29. Does anyone know where I can get footage of Ben playing with a sprained ankle? NFL Network hardly showed it at all. Yeah right. He is hardly the first QB to ever play with a sprained ankle. Give me a break!

  30. Was Roethlisberger being a drama queen when he suffered a broken nose against Baltimore at Baltimore last year? Just wondering if he was faking it as some claim he was faking injury tonight.

  31. A negative X-ray means no broken bones nor torn muscles/tendons. An X-ray will not indicate the severity of a sprain.

The drama queen commenters are the same tired scum who spew the same hate filled speech time and time again with zero basis in reality.

The performance of Roethlisberger was Jack Youngblood tough; tape it up and let’s play.

  32. Drama queen!!! not saying he faked it…sure it hurts we all have rolled an ankle, and you know the difference between it being hurt & being injured…what a joke for you fans saying how tough he is. News flash: your not tough if the injury wasn’t that serious!

………I almost choked on some Mountain Dew reading your post it was so funny. We should rename this thread to thrid in honer of such a lame name. I got to stop drinking this stuff so fast. As I open my thrid bottle in an hour…..Roll Tide

  34. “So what is more legendary … Big Ben’s effort in the second half or how the haters just won’t give a guy his due?”

His having his way with several women against their will? That’s pretty legendary.

Haha but seriously, they should be able to beat the Browns with Batch. Risking messing up Ben’s ankle more by bringing him back is pretty risky. I mean…it’s the Browns.

  35. @wtf2812…..haters gonna hate. Analysts who don’t like him & if your a fan of another team, you surely hate him. But if your a fan of the Steelers youre just so happy to have him on your side! That was truly amazing..people call him a drama queen because they can’t understand how this guy is so tough & the fans cant fathom it, because their QB is so soft!

  36. A two TD performance vs the lowly Browns? I gave my props but that performance was so far from legendary as some of you claim. Keep drinking your kool aid. Reality check though, the 49ers will absolutely, positively dismantle that Oline. BB will probably be out though so that will be the common excuse.

  37. How does it show that he is tough because he’s playing on an ankle that x-rays came back as negative? The real question should be, if the x-rays are negative then, why he even leave the game in the first place? Pansy…

  38. Sometimes I really question what is wrong with people. How can you call him a drama queen? Was his ankle twisting a camera trick? Also, he all but quit moving around in the pocket and rolling out. Would he really do that just to fake an injury?

  39. You idiots who say that the x-rays are negative don’t know anything about ankle injuries. X-rays do not show ankle injuries. The negative x-rays are for anything broken. The MRI will show the high ankle sprain. You people calling him a drama queen who never played football are jokes. I am done wasting my time with you couch potato losers.

  40. Was Roethlisberger a drama queen when he broke his nose last year against Baltimore. Just wondering, or was he faking that also?

  41. A couple of things about Ben’s injury. First off, it should’ve never happened. He rolled out of the pocket, almost to the sideline and Brown was covered, he was an open target. No fault of the O-Line at all. He should’ve gotten rid of the ball, or at least tried to scramble. Secondly, I was afraid that he was going to be done for the season after the hit. When your ankle turns at a 90 degree angle to your leg, something has to give (pretty hard to fake that). It shows that he has an unbelievable will to win and help his team. Let’s hope there are no longer term issues. If he has to miss this week, that’s fine. Give Batch 10 days with the first team and he’ll be serviceable.

The biggest concern is Pouncey. That line needs him in there simply because Kemoeatu might be the worst interior offensive lineman in football right now. 3 penalties after Pouncey went out of the game. He’s awful. The Steelers need Legursky at left guard and Pouncey at center. With that lineup, the O-Line is more than capable and I have plenty of faith in them to get the job done.

  42. Big Ben has Steeler fans eating out the palm of his hands. Did anyone else see them try to point out all the “injuries” Bathroom Ben was playing with. It’s comical to see the Steeler fans believe him. Big Ben loves the drama, always has. Everytime you guys defend him what does he do? Come up with another “injury” and then looks like a hero for wining the game. There is a disorder for people who fake a lot of injuries for attention. Look it up.

  43. Yay he can play through ankle discomfort!!!

Does this mean he didn’t rape women? How can you Steelers fans pretend he’s not a rapist, or at the very least a complete scumbag.

I understand he’s the QB and you have to support the team, but you’re all about this guy. I don’t get it.
