He clearly hit him in the head. Intentional or not it’s a penalty and was correctly called.

Now the fine? It really wasn’t a “blow” to the head, didn’t appear to be on purpose, so I really don’t think a fine is warranted.

How about the FACT that Aaron Rodgers is third ALL TIME in yards per attempt average for his career. That’s yards the balk travels in the air to get to the receiver. Ahead of Brady, Montana, Favre, Elway, Manning.

That ‘overratted’ qb actually has better numbers when throwing passes over 10 yards than the passes 10 yards or less.

Here is one example, from the Thanksgiving game against Detroit. (from ESPN.com)

Rodgers struggled in the first half going downfield, completing just one of five passes for 15 yards when throwing 11 or more yards downfield.

But in the second half, Rodgers regained his touch, going 6-7 for 180 yards on throws of 11 or more yards, including a touchdown to James Jones, helping the Packers stretch their overall win streak (including playoffs) to a franchise-record 17 games.

Rodgers was uncharacteristically off during the 1st half of the Lions game, but as you can see, did a little better in the 2nd half. Kevin Seifert at ESPN has covered this stat quite a bit this year and has pointed out how that Rodgers’s accuracy on deeper throws is what makes him stand out from other QBs.

There are other specific stats concerning this exact issue, but why spend the time looking for them when you won’t believe them anyway.

A still picture does NOTHING in either instance. It does not show the follow through and final actions. It merely shows ONE instance in the whole action.

By your definition there should be no such thing as manslaughter or 2nd and 3rd degree murders. You absolutely can determine intent using evidentiary support besides having some magical mind-beam that allows you to read a player’s thoughts.

How about you try using your eyeballs and watching the clip where it actually happened. It becomes clear to everyone (including the game commentators) that it was unintentional.

The call was made because of the letter of the law (thou shalt not touch a qb’s helmet). However, Woodson was not at all trying to hit Eli in the head. Its one of those things that just happened.

Comparing Woodson’s accidental tap of Eli’s helmet while the play was ongoing to Suh’s stomping of EDS after the whistle makes you look foolish.

I realize you feel the media and maybe even the league are persecuting your franchise, but if you go on over to the NFC north blog at ESPN you’ll notice that Kevin Seifert does a nice job today of presenting you with the statistics that since Schwartz has been Head Coach – the Lions have the MOST personal foul calls in the league – (2nd place – the Raiders). So the media is off the hook – your perception of dirtiness isn’t a perception – its a reality. Statistically proven.

Clearly there is a problem with your football team and not the media’s perception of it. Perhaps if you direct your anger to your coaches failure to recognize and deal with the problem you may find better results.
