Shanahan says field is “better than expected”

On Saturday, Army played Navy on the non-frozen tundra at FedEx Field.  On Sunday, the Redskins host the Patriots there.

Randy Moss (not that one) of NFL Network is on the scene, and he filed a report moments ago regarding the condition of the field.

Moss said that Redsins coach Mike Shanahan and defensive coordinator Jim Haslett recently inspected the field, and that Shanahan said the field is in “better than expected” condition.

The grounds crew worked on replacing bad spots in the field until 4:00 a.m.  And for good reason; in addition to a football game being played on the surface, 8,000 cadets walked on it.

Moss said that there’s more work to be done.  As of right now, the end zones still say “Army” on one side of the field, and “Navy” on the other.

    Shanahan should be more worried about Brady, Welker, and Gronkowski than the field conditions.

    Pardon me if I don’t trust Shanny talking up his home field. And I don’t mind, it’s what he should do even if it has a sandtrap in the middle of it. Homefield advantage…use it.

    no worries – easily and consistently the best natural grass field in the nfl. Danny does SO much wrong, but he obviously invests in the field crew.

    Maybe the more screwed up the field the more advantage to the redskins D. Since they wont be able to shut down brady, grankowski and welker..

    Maybe they should just replay the Army/Navy game on the big screen. Certainly would be more entertaining than what we will probably see today.

    I don’t get it the NFL did this same thing in arrowhead for sun night against the steelers. Boarder war (mu v ku for u people on the coast) was played the day before there. Is it so hard to send that team on the road that week so they can properly fix the field.

    i wish the redskins had enough class to keep army and navy on the field. it would be a nice little thing to honor the real warriors.

    The field is in awful condition…All the redskins jock straps and corpses litter the field. Brady arrested after murdering the SKINS
