Every coach should be given more than one year. How could you expect a guy to make major impact in a lockout-shortened offseason in his first year.

The Vikings are 2-11, and that is bad, but they have been consistently competitive. 8 of the 11 losses are by 7 points or less. The last 2 weeks they have almost doubled up on their opponent in yards and still lost.

The Vikings have played the league's 2nd toughest schedule with a rookie QB and a new coach after not having an offseason. I'm much more concerned about the stadium issue than the team being in the permanent toilet or having an incompetent coach (they don't)

Once it's clear you're not making the playoffs, the best thing you can do is lose every game. The Vikings will finally have a top draft position, something they haven't had since the early 80's. It would be stupid of Frazier to go all-out to win games now. Sure make the games close, like they have been, but don't ruin your draft position. Also Frazier finally woke up and cut Bernard Berrian. So I'm willing to give him one more year.

2difshoe says: Dec 14, 2011 8:09 AM

$ 895,000,000.00 to construct new stadium.

Divided by 5,303,205 residents of Minnesota = $ 169.00 each.

I think the residents of Mn. would be better off with the $ 169.00 in their own pockets.
****
So you're saying that most of the population of an entire state, most of whom are Vikings fans, would rather have enough extra money to fill the SUV plus an average dinner out - Or one month's heat bill paid - Or their cell phone bill paid - once.....

Than keeping their beloved Vikings at home for the next 4-5 decades? You're pretty good at math but you stink at the whole "Karnak" thing.

Frazier should get at least one more year, and the front office needs to do it's part by making sure it has enough cap room to be a major player in Free Agency after this season.

This team has been in position to win in all but two of it's losses this year. They lost the first three games of the season after holding double-digit leads, and have had legitimate chances to win their last four games. They're missing by a hair, despite the loss of AP, a lousy offensive line, and a pathetic secondary that makes the Patriots secondary look like All-Pros. I think the Vikings are actually playing above their talent level.

This team needs better player personnel, and changing coaches isn't going to accomplish that.

Childress went 6-10 with almost the same players last season, and a tougher schedule. This despite losing starting and backup QB to injury, not to mention having only 6 games in the Metrodome due to roof collapse (the two games outside of the dome were both losses).

Well okay Chilly went 3-7 technically before getting fired, but I doubt the team was changed nearly as much as Frazier has changed it since over the offseason.

But Chilly was a terrific, veteran coach. For Frazier to do just half as good with the same players is quite the accomplishment. I doubt I could do any better myself.

I'm willing to give Frazier another year. I'm looking foward to a great draft. The last time we were this awful, our first 3 picks in the next draft were Chris Doleman, Iaasic Holt and Kurt Lowdermilk. I'll take that. The rest of that draft sucked but a great draft will get us back to respectability next year. I fear though that we'll be chasing the Packers for the next decade.
Its he brass in MN thats killed this team. This is what you get rolling the Free Agency dice and wasting picks beyond the 3rd round. Not to mention lacking a true eye for talent. Every ding dong knows Adrian Peterson was gonna be good..everyone knows Percy Harvin was gonna be good.

Wasting picks on Gerhart is all too common in MN. You needed line help on both sides of the ball. Drafting a D-back is futile for the Vikes because they CANT EVER FIND A GOOD ONE! They just dont know how...kinda the same on O-line.

Y'all need a true personnel man. One that is WAY outta their current admin...this team has SO many holes...even their touted LB crew is crap now.

You need a QB but someone has to protect him, and Hutch is fading fast...can ONLY run block. For a team playing in a dome, you'd think a smart personnel guy coulda built a fast, efficient team...but the Vikes are caught in the 80s...run, stop the run...

I could go on forEVER on how stupid this team is and always has been...missing Denny Green anybody?

I love how the article assumes the Vikings will lose the games against the Redskins and Bears. The Bears are not a good team with Hanie so I would believe that would be more competitive than it would be with Cutler.

Have you watched this team? They have lost to SD, TB, & KC this year- they got lucky that Carolina's kicker missed what was basically an extra point- I wouldn't be so confident if I were you

PowerMad says:

Actually, the lease isn’t up after the season. The Vikes will have to play at least one more year in the Metrodome because of last year’s roof collapse. Team officials are saying that’s not the case, but that’s only because it takes away from of their leverage in the stadium negotiations. However, the language in the lease is quite clear. At the very least, it’s not as cut and dry as this post makes it seem. Not sure why PFT would mislead PFT Nation on that point.

I think Frazier has the potential to be a great coach, and I think he’ll have to do a little house cleaning to get rid of some energy vampires. I wish he’d ditch his two coordinators and hire some former head coaches with proven track records in those positions to get the team to the next level. A smart draft, and he could have a very good team on his hands.

The Vikes will finish 3-13, but fans will jump for joy next year when Morris Claiborne shuts down Megatron all by himself or Matt Kalil road grades Julius Peppers into Michigan Avenue or Alshon Jeffery torches Charles Woodson for his third touchdown of the game.

And the Vikes will get a new stadium. And the team will continue to be the purple and gold so many of you despise. And we’ll laugh at you.
--------------------------------------------------
Let me start by saying that I am one of the biggest Vikings fans there has ever been.
BUT you are on drugs or just plain delusional!!

There is NO SUCH thing as a slam dunk when it comes to our legislature, that silly clause where a stadium is deficient and fails causing the Vikings to have to play another season is a legal joke- they will pay whatever fines they have to to move if the legislature doesn't deal with it during the opening of the session and the NFL will allow them to move- this has been going on for over a decade and it keeps getting put off and by next year the cost will be $1.15 Billion
