New Niners stadium moves another step closer to reality

121311-stadium-header

The San Francisco 49ers and the powers-that-be in Santa Clara recently lined up $850 million in loans for the construction of a new stadium.  On Tuesday night, the Santa Clara Stadium Authority voted unanimously to approve the loans.

Also approved was a 40-year lease agreement between the team and the city.

The 68,500-seat stadium has an estimated cost of $1 billion.  Construction could begin as soon as 2012.

It would make sense for the 49ers and the Raiders to seriously consider sharing the new stadium.  It’s unknown whether the Raiders would be interested in joining the 49ers in their soon-to-be-now Santa Clara home.

I’d rather the Raiders stay in their own stadium than share it with a franchise as soft as the 49ers.

As a Niners fan, don’t include the raiders in this new stadium. Let them rot in Oakland.

We’ve seen Tebow and C.Newton use their feet to make plays and use the wildcat option great. Wait till we see the most athletic and fastest of them all. “The Beast” Terrell Pryor

Some liberal or environmentalist will block this stadium and the Bay Area will have to start from square one. This has happened over and over again for the last 30 years. The Raiders will not share a stadium with the 49ers. I am sure Al put that in his will some where.

If this stadium fails and it will. This team will move to LA and share a stadium with the Chargers.

Doesn’t the NFL require 70,000 seats minimum for a super bowl? Why only 68,500? Or will they be like Dallas and try to cram more in illegally?

  6. alwaysbeenaniner says: Dec 14, 2011 8:23 AM

I hope we don’t share …..I would like this to be ours and ours only

  7. mrimpatient says: Dec 14, 2011 8:24 AM

Please do not allow the Raiders to share a staduim with the 49ers. Raiders and 9ers fans do not mix well.

Just to let you know Al was all for sharing this new stadium, not sure if his son will be though, and the environmental stuff has all been done so that’s a mute point too.

    Attention: Minnesota

This is how to do it.

  10. biz518 says: Dec 14, 2011 8:58 AM

i understand why sharing the stadium makes sense for the Raiders, but why would san fran need the raiders involved when they already have everything in place on their own. Just really would like to know how it would benefit the niners.

  11. 1captain1 says: Dec 14, 2011 9:01 AM

The taxpayers need to pony up and get stadiums for their teams every 20 years.

If not then they are not TRUE fans.

  12. christopher525 says: Dec 14, 2011 9:04 AM

The Davis family won’t have a say in sharing or not, the son is going to have to sell the team. As for sharing, I don’t think that’ll be an issue when Ice Cube gets investors together, buys the Raiders and moves them back to LA.

Where are all the cries and complaints about the public funding of a NEW stadium for billionaires in California? $890 million from Santa Clara, and $110 million from the 49ers and the NFL.

Amazing how when discussing Minnesota’s stadium issue, all we get is the “public funding of billionaires” dance routine.

  14. trollhammer20 says: Dec 14, 2011 9:13 AM

I think the minimum for a Super Bowl is 70,000, so I’m sure there will be a contingency to add 1,500 seats for “special events”. Hopefully, if this is the case, it will be well-planned for, and not be another Cowboy Stadium debacle.

The comic value of having Raider and 49er fans share a stadium is way too priceless, so I really hope it happens.

So it’s okay for the public to fund billionaires in California, but it shouldn’t be done in Minnesota?

    The Santa Clara 49er’s…sounds good.

If the 9ers & Raiders must share a stadium & then have to play each other, play that game in London….please.

  18. vermonator says: Dec 14, 2011 10:40 AM

The Raiders won’t be sharing with the 49ers as they will be the ones to move to LA. I was a Raider fan during the 70′s and crossed the bay the day they moved. There’s a huge following in LA as I would guess most Raider fans already know. Sorry Raider Nation but hey, at least your team will be closer to their fan base.

  19. kghannigan says: Dec 14, 2011 10:47 AM

They WILL not share and here is the reason: 49ers = 5 Superbowl wins. Raiders = ?

Also, do you REALLY want their to be murders in the stadium because 9ers and Raiders fans/teams are sharing the place?

Right. Because those same liberals and environmentalists only live in the Bay Area portion of California and there aren’t any in Los Angeles! That’s why the L.A. downtown stadium has already been built. Stick to what ya know, gacanefan – college football and Piggly Wiggly.

Santa Clara is baller country so they can pay for it. All the tech ceos live there. And there will not ne raider and niners fans fighting because they will not play on the same day at home……

  22. bubba9er says: Dec 14, 2011 11:35 AM

I have been a 49ers fan my whole life. Some of my favorite memories are of John Madden doing the commentary for a Sunday afternoon game in Candlestick Park. Especially when Steve Young was the QB.
I have never gone to the Stadium for a game (live in ID), so it will be bitter-sweet when they go to their new digs.

PS: I don’t think anyone wants to share anything with the Raiders. Besides, they wouldn’t know what to do with a field without a baseball infield in the middle.

  23. grninerfan says: Dec 14, 2011 11:39 AM

We will NOT be sharing withe they Raiders sis you see what happened when we let them play us in pre season not real football. Don’t do it ‘niners!

  24. hmpennypacker says: Dec 14, 2011 11:46 AM

I hope we don’t move to be honest. Wasn’t the San Fran mayor talking about the team colours/logo/records not moving with them? It would be sad if we moved.

  25. dannymac17 says: Dec 14, 2011 11:47 AM

LA doesnt want the Raiders back, the bay can keep that loser of a franchise

  26. oaktown49er says: Dec 14, 2011 11:54 AM

I know I am in the minority on this one but as Niner fan in Oakland, it would be a dream come true to see a joint stadium in Oakland. I drive 20-25 mins to see the A’s and Warriors, but 2 hours to see my 49ers play.

  27. stopthestadium49 says: Dec 14, 2011 11:55 AM

wonder what the liberals and environmentalists feel about the civil design of the stadium being performed by the engineering firm GHD…which is an attempt to obtain the high cost of the contracts and the failure to support local, minority-owned businesses.

  28. NoHomeTeam says: Dec 14, 2011 1:34 PM

    Shared stadium on Treasure Island.
Sure, the logistics of getting 70,000 people on and off every Sunday would be a nightmare, but you couldn’t get a more central location for the two teams
