It has more to do with sticking around and learning from the best, and eventually being part of one of the best offenses in the league than anything else. I doubt money had anything to do with the situation. Vikings do not have a program im place to develop young WRs the way Green Bay does. The Packers make good decisions at draft time, but the WR coaching and development gets overlooked. Vikings would smother that development the way they're operating now.

it's funny graham harrell turned down the bills too, to stay on the practice squad. until they recently added him to the 53 man roster. the pack don't have to keep him on the practice squad he just knows he's learning from some of the best so why not stay and learn. really could you imagine going and in three weeks the vikings season is over and he's at home not with the pack in the playoff's? he'd b pis-sed.... smart choice

Former Packer practice squad player Chastin West signed with and started for the Jaguars last night on a team with a putrid offensive output. Which one feels better about their situation today?

Depending on the future on Donald Driver, Gurley may get his chance to be on the Packers active roster in 2012. The way Aaron Rodgers is playing right now, who wouldn't want to be one of his receivers?

This is a good move for the guy. It was a smart move. As he said, the Vikings season is going to be over in 3 weeks and he is learning from some of the best receivers in the game. Plus, he will be in the playoffs with a chance to win a ring. Plus, as someone said, the Vikings were likely going to rent him for a few weeks and then cut him. Good move.

So he’s basically giving up somewhere from 0 to 20K for a shot at a ring and chance to compete for a spot next year with the Pack.

So little money involved for just three weeks, and it also means giving the Vikes control over his contract rights next year (or beyond if he made their active roster next year) since he'd be their exclusive rights free agent at the end of this season.

I don't have any rooting interest in the NFC North, but I can't blame a young WR for maximizing his chances of sticking with the Packers and Aaron Rodgers for the next 3-4 years instead.

He’ll have as much impact with the Packers this year as all the geniuses that bought “stock” last week.

Wow! -- the impact of all those stock purchases is to get the Lambeau addition built -- adding to the Packers legacy in Wisconsin.

That's a huge impact -- a huge show of support for the team from the community. And at no cost to taxpayers.

Anyway, how's that stadium project coming along in Minnesota?

He’ll have as much impact with the Packers this year as all the geniuses that bought “stock” last week.

————————————————————–

Wow! — the impact of all those stock purchases is to get the Lambeau addition built — adding to the Packers legacy in Wisconsin.

That’s a huge impact — a huge show of support for the team from the community. And at no cost to taxpayers.

Anyway, how’s that stadium project coming along in Minnesota?

First of all, I'm a Vikes fan, have been for longer than most of these posters have been alive. With that being said, Gurley made the right choice. Anyone would want to be part of what could very well happen this year with the Packers. What an experience.
As for his play? I wondered where he went. He was a beast at SC, great hands.
You have to be impressed with what GB has done team wise. Good guys, good players (give or take a few, as with any team). Best receiving core in football.

Best franchise in the NFL vs. the frozen train wreck in Minnesota. Some choice.

Smart move on his part. With Donald Driver's return in doubt, he'll be going for a roster spot on a team that spreads the ball around. He'll get plenty of playing time, plenty of catches, and plenty of post season play.

It would be a horrible move to go to the Vikes. That is where good WRs go to die. That team is destined for the NFC North basement for the next 4-5 years. They are easily the worst managed team in the league and now it is apparent they blew it on Ponder. They’ll be in dire need of another QB in two years.

This is just hilarious.

WRs come to die??? Hahaha you’re kidding me right? Cris Carter, Randy Moss, Percy Harvin, Sammy White, Sidney Rice

2 of those are top 15 WRs of ALL TIME

146 dislikes against 64 dislikes..

Is there any question as to how many die hard Green Bay fan boys frequent PFT?

It's amazing how pathetic Wisconsin day-to-day must be that their football fans would devote so much time and effort to defending their football franchise on an internet website (while there isn't a single player on the roster that would give a second thought to leaving an "owner" stranded on the side of I-94 in a blizzard).

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA! Way to represent, Wisconsin!

So if he went to the Vikes he'd get 60K.

With the Packers he'll get at least 5 more weeks of pay, with the possibility of 8 weeks pay if they go to the Superbowl. That's 28-45K at the practice squad minimum. In the past the Packers have paid $7500 for a practice squad player, so that would be 38 to 60K.

So he's basically giving up somewhere from 0 to 20K for a shot at a ring and chance to compete for a spot next year with the Pack.

Also, on the off chance he gets activated for a game, he'd be eligible for bonuses anywhere from 25K to 150K depending on how the Packers do in the playoffs.

It's a very smart move when you consider that this is most likely Driver's last year, so the packers should have an opening next year at WR. He looked good in pre-season, and there is no reason to think he can't make it on the regular roster next year. Might give up some money now to be in a much better place next year.

...Donald Driver’s not getting any younger, and Jordy Nelson is most likely nearing the end of his rookie deal.
-
I'd think he's lookin' at Cobb's spot when he takes over for DD's or an injury fill in spot, so he could take Cobb's spot

Jordy just signed a contact extention in Oct., so he's not going anywhere for a while.

But yeah, can't blame the kid for wanting to be in an already successful system.
=====
So how did they blow it with Ponder? He did just throw for 380yds and 3 td’s 2 weeks ago.

That's called a fluke, kinda like when Brady opened the season throwing for 500 yds and 4 TD's-- 'cept you forgot Ponder's 3 picks in his big game. Overall, through 8 games this year, Ponder's currently at 55% completion, 205 y/g, 1.375 TD's/game, with a 1:1 TD to INT ratio...mediocre to bad stats honestly. Those numbers drop considerably if you take out the fluke game.
