Money has pretty much everything to do with where players choose to play. The players are mercenaries; who pays the most gets the player.

As for programs to develop young WRs, you mean like coaches, drills, practices, film-study, etc.? Yeah, only the GBP have that.

Depending on the future on Donald Driver, Gurley may get his chance to be on the Packers active roster in 2012. The way Aaron Rodgers is playing right now, who wouldn’t want to be one of his receivers?

So little money involved for just three weeks, and it also means giving the Vikes control over his contract rights next year (or beyond if he made their active roster next year) since he’d be their exclusive rights free agent at the end of this season.

I don’t have any rooting interest in the NFC North, but I can’t blame a young WR for maximizing his chances of sticking with the Packers and Aaron Rodgers for the next 3-4 years instead.

He’ll have as much impact with the Packers this year as all the geniuses that bought “stock” last week.

Smart move on his part. With Donald Driver’s return in doubt, he’ll be going for a roster spot on a team that spreads the ball around. He’ll get plenty of playing time, plenty of catches, and plenty of post season play.

It would be a horrible move to go to the Vikes. That is where good WRs go to die. That team is destined for the NFC North basement for the next 4-5 years. They are easily the worst managed team in the league and now it is apparent they blew it on Ponder. They’ll be in dire need of another QB in two years.

It’s amazing how pathetic Wisconsin day-to-day must be that their football fans would devote so much time and effort to defending their football franchise on an internet website (while there isn’t a single player on the roster that would give a second thought to leaving an “owner” stranded on the side of I-94 in a blizzard).

With the Packers he’ll get at least 5 more weeks of pay, with the possibility of 8 weeks pay if they go to the Superbowl. That’s 28-45K at the practice squad minimum. In the past the Packers have paid $7500 for a practice squad player, so that would be 38 to 60K.

So he’s basically giving up somewhere from 0 to 20K for a shot at a ring and chance to compete for a spot next year with the Pack.

Also, on the off chance he gets activated for a game, he’d be eligible for bonuses anywhere from 25K to 150K depending on how the Packers do in the playoffs.

Jordy just signed a contact extention in Oct., so he’s not going anywhere for a while.

But yeah, can’t blame the kid for wanting to be in an already successful system.

So how did they blow it with Ponder? He did just throw for 380yds and 3 td’s 2 weeks ago.

That’s called a fluke, kinda like when Brady opened the season throwing for 500 yds and 4 TD’s– ‘cept you forgot Ponder’s 3 picks in his big game. Overall, through 8 games this year, Ponder’s currently at 55% completion, 205 y/g, 1.375 TD’s/game, with a 1:1 TD to INT ratio…mediocre to bad stats honestly. Those numbers drop considerably if you take out the fluke game.
