Joe Montana: I never had a season as good as Aaron Rodgers

Joe Montana might be the best quarterback in NFL history, but he thinks Aaron Rodgers is having a better season than he ever had -- or that anyone ever had.

Asked on the Dan Patrick Show whether his best season was as good as Rodgers’ 2011 season, Montana said he didn’t think it was.

“The one he’s having right now is pretty phenomenal,” Montana said of Rodgers’ season. “I’m not sure I had one like that.”

Asked if any quarterback has had a season like Rodgers, Montana said he couldn’t think of one.

“I don’t think so,” Montana said. “From my understanding, the way the numbers are going, I don’t think anyone has.”

With a passer rating of 123.3 this year, Rodgers has a good chance of breaking Peyton Manning’s single-season passer rating record, which he set in 2004 with a rating of 121.1. If, in the next three games, Rodgers wraps up both the passer rating record and an undefeated season, it would be hard to argue with the idea that Rodgers has had the best year of any quarterback ever to play the game.
