I thought the Fletcher call was total bs, and on the next play the Redskin db had a clear shot to nail Brady and let him go because of it. What’s more, like it or not, some guys have ref’s looking at every touch (Brady) and other guys they are waiting to flag (James Harrison), any more it’s a fact in the NFL, some guys are untouchable and some aren’t allowed to hit.

THE photo IS NOT THE PENALTY. the penalty was thrown on carter because he dove and grabbed grossman below the knee. wilfork was flagged cuz he led with the head. the only call that was really crappy was fletcher tackling brady when brady slid. fletchers arm didnt hit brady in the head like the ref announced.

the patriots got more call than the skins. i am impartial. i watched the game cuz kc / jet game was a blowout and they switched over…only game on tv.

Wilfork call maybe… but no, the penalty on Fletcher was Goodell influence imo. Hit a QB hard = flag.

It’s just the inconsistency in calls that drives me crazy. Take for instance last night’s game:

2nd and 4 (6:18): Owusu-Ansah (41) delivers a forearm shiver to the back of the neck/head of White (84) while he was coming to the ground after making a catch. A clear-cut case of a blow to the head on classic “defenseless receiver”. No flag. Oh, and the game announcers make no comment about it despite watching several replays at different angles. If that had been Ryan Clark of the Steelers the field would have been littered with yellow and the announcers would have been emoting outrage.

I can’t believe that was 15k. Grossman is practically falling backwards when he was hit and Andre Carter was being pushed away.

He barely clipped his leg and it’s 15k.

It just seems like the NFL has no idea what actually causes injuries and what doesn’t. They just seem to be arbitrarily throwing around fines to see if they can accidentally cause the league to be safer.

The only fine that should have been levied was the one on Meangelo Hall for poor sportsmanship. The rest were guys trying to make plays, and none were egregious examples of excessive roughness. Its getting ridiculous.

That game was officiated horribly for both sides, but I have to say not sure why everyone is saying the Fletcher flag was the worst call, last time I checked if a QB slides then they are not supposed to be hit, if they dive then its free game, so how is it a bad call when a QB slides and is giving himself up and a 300lbs DE jumps on him forearm or not that is a penalty. Wilforks penalty was suspect becuase he went leading w/ his helmet on a guy that was on the ground, but in game speed how many times have guys been knocked down and got up and ran, so he was just reacting, although he should have had more control. Too many trolls on this site hate on the Pats, bunch of vag’s!

Your wrong. On the Brady hit, they got field goal.

On the wilfork hit on 3rd down Skins ended up scoring a TD.

On the Carter roughing that negated an Int and you got points.

Add that to the blatant jersey pulling in the end zone on the Brady Int and the refs almost cost them the game.

Pats were on the short end in this game. It was awful all game.

Yea, all you Harrison hater’s. Everyone who plays hates Goodells crap and I can’t wait till he is gone. Carter is right. So get a clue about how the game is played and how certain hits are going to happen during the course of the game before you start explaining how to tackle. As I keep saying, 90 percent of you have never even palyed the game, much less made a tackle. Its football, get used to it.

The Fletcher and Wilfork penalties were both flat out ridiculous.

The ref threw the flag on Fletcher solely as a knee-jerk reaction because a QB got hit. Nothing else. Never mind that Grossman went into his slide AFTER he saw he was going to hit.

Wilfork there is no explanation for that flag. As near as I could tell the ref decided that he hit him too hard and didn’t like it. That’s unprecedented. Welcome to Goodell’s NFL.

Fletcher’s penalty was seriously was one of the worst calls I’ve ever seen. The ref knew he screwed up too, but just didn’t want to look wishy-washy, so he stuck with it. That penalty kept the Patriots drive alive and basically led to the game-winning TD. Something needs to be done about these calls… it’s coming to a head. I predict that sooner or later, a high profile Linebacker is just going walk of the field and go directly to the locker room in disgust. I would have been okay with Fletcher doing that because everyone knows he’s a class-act.

This is similar to the no-fire rules that frustrate Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. Your sent out there to do a job, and then they put rules in place preventing you from doing your job. Wha?

And the league always says its not a penalty if the player gets blocked into the knee. Which is why that call really was BS.

That and because it negated the one play Devin McCourty has made all season.

The NFL has gone from being a full-contact sport to being a partial-contact court case. Just keep on debating the legalities of certain plays, citing precedent, and reporting on all of the passed judgments. Truly interesting stuff there guys.

carter’s case is closer? are you kidding me? Who cares is Grossman was running with the ball and threw it at the last second. you are not allowed to hit the QB. Carter should have adjusted at the very last second. And his excuse that he was trying to play physical and fast-please. There are no excuses for doing what he did. he needs to learn to adjust his playing style and play by the new rules.

and yes I am being sarcastic. substitute harrisons name for carter and its the same situation. a few more hits like that and carter is facing a suspension.

I’m a Pats fan and I agree that the officiating was horrible toward both teams. That’s what happens when you get the worst referee in the game today – Jeff Tripplette. By far the worst. I loathe the games that he officiates and when Phil Simms is commentating at the same time. Soul-suckingly unbearable.

Carter is a well respected and whistle clean football player. He went for the tackle around the waist. Grossman then jumped backwards causing Carter to slide down his leg a bit, but had no impact in the actual hit. Grossmans leg was not impacted. This fine is the NFL bowing to pressure they thought would come from those who would feel the Patriots are favored for some reason, over say, the Steelers and James Harrison, or the Lions and Ndomakong Sue, perhaps because it is called The Brady Rule. The Pats created that environment for themselves by being so good for so long. Serves them right! B@st@rds! LOL!

Hall is an idiot, but I would hate to play DB in the NFL. So many questionable PI & DH calls made every week… unbelievably annoying.
