Report: Robert Griffin III’s parents interviewing agents

Baylor University quarterback Griffin III speaks to the audience after winning the Heisman Trophy award during a ceremony in New York Reuters

Robert Griffin III hasn’t said whether or not he plans to return to Baylor next season after taking home the Heisman last weekend, but a report from Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports might give us a hint about his leanings.

Cole reports that Griffin’s parents have been interviewing agents in order to protect Griffin should he decide to return to school. While that’s a possibility, it doesn’t seem like a very good one given the season Griffin had and the number of teams in the NFL who need a franchise quarterback.

Andrew Luck remains everyone’s clubhouse favorite for the first overall pick, but RG3 and Matt Barkley will probably be shaking Roger Goodell’s hand a short time later if they decide to come out. Teams like the Dolphins, Redskins and Seahawks are sure to be interested in adding a potential franchise quarterback come April and Griffin has the kind of talent and intangibles to make one of them move heaven and Earth to bring him to town.

And with the fourth pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select…

Don’t forget to include the jets as a team that will be looking for a new QB next season

When it is all said and done I think RGIII is going somewhere in the 5-7 range. I would say top 5, but teams like the Rams, Vikings, and Panthers will be drafting in the top 5 and have their young QBs already.

Another obvious reasons email will go pro:
    HE HAS GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE

  5. Andre's Johnson says: Dec 16, 2011 5:10 PM

Canesfan, he’s actually already earned two degrees but somehow still has a years of eligibility left. But I agree: why in the world would he return to college so he can play football and take continuing ed classes when he can go pro (having gotten a great education) and instantly be a millionaire?

RG3 to Rams. There will be a new coach in St. Louis and he aint gonna get Tebowed into keeping Bradford.

Barkley is gonna be a seahawk I gotta think Pete Carrol can make that happens as the Vikings love Ponder and escpet for the Browns most teams above them have qb’s. Maybe Jacdsonville dumps Gabbert.

  8. donterrelli says: Dec 16, 2011 5:18 PM

I guess at this point, it’s just understood that the Colts will take Luck at #1.

  9. trbowman says: Dec 16, 2011 5:20 PM

Redskins will take Ryan Tannehill. Perfect Shanahan QB.

I’d take Luck, Barkley and Tannehill over RG3.

He’s a project player coming out of the same air raid offense Graham Harrell did. He struggles between the hashes, and his short/intermediate accuracy is poor. Don’t be erroneously fooled by completion percentage

Good kid, coachable. But needs major work.

Miami might be a good fit because Matt Moore can be a stop gap. RG3 should absolutely not open the season as a starter. Ideally, he holds a clipboard for a year.

I think Mel Kiper has fallen below Todd McShay. Anyone else agree?

He thinks Vontaze Burfict is one of the best players in this draft. The Vontaze Burfict I saw this year wasn’t worth a draft pick, period. And he’s a headcase on top of it….he wouldn’t even be on my board.

And better yet….Kiper thinks NICK FOLES is a borderline first rounder. Ha! Nick Foles shouldn’t go before the fifth round.

  11. earthtopft says: Dec 16, 2011 5:39 PM

Griffin has a year of eligibility remaining because he missed a year with injury. Given his size, playing style, and body type, he should have about 10 years of eligibility remaining when he limps out of the NFL in his mid to late 20s. The degrees are from Baylor.

  12. alexexum12 says: Dec 16, 2011 5:51 PM

Trbowman. I couldn’t agree more. Every time Mel Kiper comes on the tv I switch channels

THAT would be stupid. Bradford has too much money and you would put that money on the bench???? if you cut him you LOSE that money, if they trade him for say 2 second round picks to Washington then i would agree.

  14. harrcwwh says: Dec 16, 2011 6:14 PM

You can add the Cleveland Browns to that list. Given their remaining schedule, this will be a 4-12 team with a top 5 pick. The Browns do not just need a good draft, they need to create some buzz in the city surrounding the team. A player like Robert Griffin III is certainly capable of delivering that. Colt McCoy’s ceiling is winning perhaps one playoff game with the proper amount of talent around him but it is clear that he is not and will never be an “elite” NFL QB, which is a requirement for winning the SB in the modern day NFL. See Rodgers, Brees, Roethlisberger, P. Manning, E. Manning.

Oh, and here’s another thing I can tell you about RG3. He is 100% below his listed height. Just wait for the combine.

He isn’t much bigger than Troy Smith.

would love to see RG III in burgundy and gold the next ten seasons!

My Masters degree is from Baylor. If RGIII received his degree(s) from Baylor, he EARNED them…and he’s no slouch.

The Browns will draft him @ number 5 in the first round. You heard it here first…

When he was a Freshman he was listed at 6-5, 6-6, now he is only 6-2, what will he be at the combine? He is a tremendous athlete, but at the end of the day like every other college star who was more athlete than QB, none of them has one a Super Bowl. At least he has done it for more than one year.

I’m 6’1″ and when I met him he had about inch or two over me. We both had sneakers on, his listed height of 6’2″ seems dead on to me.

He’s a real humble kid and his parents are really nice. They have that “down home” attitude about them. When they were in New York for the Heisman ceremony , they wanted to visit the 9-11 site.

    John Elway won it twice.
    Steve Young won one.
    Roger Staubach won it twice.

He was on with Letterman, and they were standing together at the end of his segment. Dave is supposed to be 6-1 1/2 and he looked to be at least as tall as Griffin. No idea about their footwear, though. I’m betting he comes in a tad under 6-2. Which isn’t the end of the world. Aaron Rodgers size.

  25. lgwelsh1 says: Dec 16, 2011 7:47 PM

He is a top 10 pick. He already graduated. There is not a lot there at Baylor for him to accomplish.

The question is who will draft this kid, so many franchises need a QB.

    Dear God

Please don’t let it be Eugene Parker he will corrupt him.

Deion Sanders and Eugene Parker are bad influence case in point Michael Crabtree hold out, Des Bryant and his suspension from the NCAA.

There is more than anything moral reason too. RG3 is an incredible talent who under the right direction management and coaching wise could become the most electrifying football player!

If given the power I would trade the 9ers 1st round plus a second he is that good IMHO. All likelihood the cowboys will draft him.

  29. thatdudewiththemarauder says: Dec 16, 2011 8:54 PM

I can see a #10 Redskins jersey with Flynn on the back right now. Matt that is. Skins are drafting Blackmon to go with Flynn. Shanny cannot have another losing season playing with a rookie. Please DO NOT DRAFT SANCHEZ JR!! Well he did place it on Beck and Gross(man). You heard it here first!!

  30. Amadeus says: Dec 16, 2011 9:23 PM

    ka-ching!

  31. paulglavic says: Dec 16, 2011 9:46 PM

RG3 is probably not going to Cleveland. Don’t expect them to draft another undersized QB after watching McCoy struggle. It’s no huge indictment on Griffin, but the size factor will be fresh in Mike Holmgren’s mind, and he’ll look for someone who physically resembles his more recent success, Favre and Hasselbeck.

Keep an eye on Ryan Tannehill with the Browns first pick, while the first-rounder from Atlanta could be turned into Michael Floyd, Nick Toon, or Kendall Wright.

Sorry, not even close. Barkey has more experience, a better arm, doesn’t date 10-year olds, and gets better under pressure.

    Mark Sanchez=Tim Crouch.
