Are you kidding me? As a 49ers fan, I realize he may not be head coach material due to his lack of an offensive mindset, but the guy got the head coaching job based on his phenomenal performance as defensive coordinator. The great 49er defense that exists today was built primarily by Singletary, and he got a lot out of his defense as coordinator. I think the Vikings would be lucky to have a d coordinator like Mike.

This team is not far off. Get a #1 Receiver which there should be plenty in Free Agency (Vincent jackson or Desean Jackson) and get a decent corner like cortlain finnagan out of tennesee or Brent Grimes out of Atlanta. Draft Kali at LT with the first pick move chris johnson to OG. And get a few good safteys in the draft and pickup a real NT in free agency. They do all that and The Vikings will be a 9+ win team next season.

You must be the former Pervy Harvin who haunted these parts and always had delusions when it came to the Vikes.

This team must avoid shortcuts if it wants to be a long term player in the league.

9 wins next season under any circumstances is a dream.

The bones are not there to build upon.

And the personnel department doesn’t have a clue when it comes to judging talent.

This whole thing of the inmates running the asylum began with the courting and begging of Brett Favre to come out of retirement and lead them to the promised land. And now the franchise has become a laughing stock. It’s time to hire a strong, football savvy general manager with the power to hire and fire the head coach. And to rebuild the team from the ground up. Look at the Green Bay Packers for your model and inspiration.

But, they won’t. They’ll keep on lurching along. And sink even lower and lower.

Sorry to say but play calling is the least of this team’s worries. Once players start worrying about the play call, you are screwed no matter what you do. They need to just shut up and execute the play.

Memo to the defense: You, collectively, aren’t as good as Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, heck as a group you aren’t much better than Tarvaris Jackson or John Skelton.

You’re paid to follow the playcall the D Coordinator wants. Not to audible and “freestyle” your own defense.

Explains a lot to me about how the Vikings kept collapsing in the 2nd half of games in the beginning of the season, that’s for sure.

I find it comical that you can defend the guy. He’s paid to be an impact player. Name the last game he had a truly positive impact. I’ll stick with the 2007 game in the Meadowlands vs the Giants. That was 5 seasons ago. There is no defending his lack of impact over the last 3 seasons now.

To clue you in: The Tampa 2 is a scheme that, if played correctly by the front 7, will dictate that every single running play is schematically funneled to the OLB’s. Derrick Brooks is the gold standard of the Tampa 2 OLB’s. Can you honestly say, that when you use your eyeballs and not just read a stat sheet, that Greenway is anywhere near what Derrick Brooks was? Derrick Brooks worst season is better than anything Greenway has put together in his career. And yet the Vikings thought he was a franchise player? Its scary that thier pro personel department (Spielman and others) is that blind.

We were expecting you to be a little bit better than last year, though, and maybe, just maybe, even get into the general vicinity of .500.

Was that really too much to ask for this year?

We’ve blown huge leads, we’ve fallen behind by 3-4 scores on a regular basis before the offense makes a push…the only reason we are middle of the pack statstically is because teams don’t run on the Vikes (no need to) and Jared Allen (or as Brian Billick calls him, Gerald).

The secondary is horrendous and has been for some time. The linebackers are mediocre and Kevin Williams (one of my favorite Vikings of all time) is starting to look old.

It’s time to revamp. I don’t think we have the personnel for a 3-4 but something must be done.

I think it’s incredible that you can say Greenway has no business sticking on a NFL roster. The guy has averaged over a hundred tackles for all five years since he’s been a full time starter. And i’m sorry but you don’t design a defense to “channel” plays towards one linebacker who has no business playing in the league, that just doesnt make sense. If you wanna discredit his play by bringing up FF’s and INT’s then I think you’re clueless. The Vikings secondary hasn’t been respectable in a long time. Pretty much all of the passing plays against them are past the second level of defense which means he’s never going to get alot of INT’s. He’s got 118 tackles this year because he’s beaten guys the the ball carrier 118 times this year. Maybe try goin after the other linebackers we’ve had in the past five years before you tear into greenway

Remember GB was a 4-3 before Capers was here and it’s why the let Kampen go – he couldn’t play the 3-4

Yeah JA is a great DE but long term/over all – MN might be better in the 3-4 and JA would garner them some picks to get LB talent for the switch.

the vikings have not changed their game play since the gary anderson field goal kick.. i mean anyone who trys to defend their game play doesnt know much about the sport of football. its like saying tim tebow is a good qb.. ur never gonna win a just cause. when i can turn on 5 mins of the game and call 75% of their plays its pretty sad. the vikings d line has been the most valuable part of the orginaztion. so when you are trying beat the vikings what do you do? you throw the ball behind the d line… thats what all teams do and thats why they are 2-11. even with the queens getting a 2nd pick they will still waste it. i just say move to la so i dont have to see them play every sunday..

This will not turn around for like four years … and then only if everything goes perfectly well going forward.

There’s probably only five players this team should hold on to.

The Vikings do represent an excellent opportunity for any undrafted free agent after the 2012 NFL draft.

The team has no history of drafting quality players. Don’t argue with me about AP and Harvin — even a broke clock is right twice a day.

If you are defending Greenway by citing his tackle numbers, you are simply clueless.

Do you watch the games? Greenway is completely pedestrian. Reason his tackle numbers are high? The defense is designed to channel every play to him. Yes, he does tackle the ball carrier – 5 to 8 yards down the field. He can’t play pass coverage worth two squirts of monkey piss. He hasn’t made an impact, game changing play since 2007 in the Meadowlands. This year, he has 1 whole whoppin’ sack, no INT’s and only 1 (!) pass defended while opposing TE’s put up monster game after monster game against him. He’s forced 7 fumbles in 5 seasons. The dud has had one good season – back in 2008. His other 4 years have been played at a level of a guy who has no business sticking on an NFL roster. And the Vikings franchised him. Pathetic.

If you want to overhaul the defense, fine, I have no problem with that. But dominant 4-3 DE’s are the 2nd toughest thing to find in football after elite QB’s. We already have one, arguably the best one in the NFC and one of the top 5 in the NFL. You build around that, not destroy it by making him play OLB. You rebuild the 4-3 around Allen, or you trade him. Its that simple.

I do agree that Fred Pagic has got to go and that Mike Singletary could be a viable option to take over as defensive coordinator. However, he has to keep the defense at a 4-3. Otherwise you’re screwing up Allen and others who have actually thrived under the 4-3 system.

I am also one of the few Vikings fans willing to stick with Frazier for at least one more season. He had a huge mess to clean up last year. He’ll need one full offseason to clean house and actually draft competent players that could at least keep the Vikings competitive in the NFC North (please note, I am not expecting them to win the division or even keep the playoffs).

Frazier made some great moves at the beginning of the season – things that were long overdue. But he needs to show me, as a fan, he wants this organization to succeed.

Maybe a Packer fan?
