After Saturday night’s win over the Buccaneers, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said quarterback Tony Romo is playing so well right now that it’s hard to see how Dallas could be left out of the playoffs.
And if the Cowboys don’t make the playoffs, Jones makes no secret that it would be one of the most disappointing results in his time as the team’s owner.
“At the end of the day, [Romo’s play] is why we can’t not get in the tournament, because he is playing so well,” Jones said, via the Star-Telegram.
Romo is playing well: On Saturday night he went 23 for 30 for 249 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions. Jones says that having Romo on the field is what makes the difference between this year’s Cowboys and last year’s.
“This time last year, he wasn’t playing. With him playing at the level he is playing, it would be a real serious career disappointment for us not to get to the playoffs,” Jones said.
Still, the Cowboys aren’t a lock for the playoffs by any means. Next week they play the Eagles, who blew them out in October, and whether they win or lose against the Eagles, Week 17 against the Giants is probably going to be a must-win. Romo is going to have to keep playing well for Jones to avoid that career disappointment.
