Raiders have no list of G.M. candidates, yet

Hue Jackson AP

As the regular season moves to a conclusion, the Raiders widely are expected to hire a G.M. after the 2011 season ends.

Per a league source, the Raiders have no list and plan to compile no list of G.M. candidates until the 2011 season ends.

It’s worth noting that the Raiders have no list because there are rumors, and possibly reports, of a list.  The rumors and reports simply aren’t true.

So where do the rumors and reports come from?  Agents and other intermediaries apparently are pitching names to the Raiders, which then can be used as a vehicle for forcing the names that are pitched into the general conversation, giving the names some validity.

Regardless, the Raiders have no list at this time.  Eventually, they will.  For now, they don’t.

A key factor in the search will be coach Hue Jackson.  It’s believed that he reports directly to the owner; as a result, Jackson and the G.M. will truly be partners.  It’s critical, as the situations in Kansas City and Miami have shown, for the coach and the G.M. to have a relationship based on trust and respect.

  4. redrifle14 says: Dec 18, 2011 9:25 AM

Hue Jackson is done. He has cost the Raiders the present and the future with his stupid trades and coaching.

Hue needs to go, the Palmer trade has sealed his fate! Dumb move in a panic! This trade will have a cloud over the francise for several years to come!!

Some of the Wisconsin media have reported that the Raiders have an interest in Reggie McKenzie, Director of Football Operations for the Packers. He’s essentially the next in command behind GM Ted Thompson and was a former Raiders player.
He’s long been credited with helping Thompson build the team now that is poised for another Super Bowl run.

Instead of worrying about finding a GM that is a fit with Hue, I’d rather they focus on a proven GM who brings in a proven head coach along with him.

Raiders should let Hue run the team into the ground.

Why hire someone to make draft picks when you don’t have draft picks to make, The Raiders won’t need a GM until 2013

    I’ll do it.

That is the main problem. a proven GM would like a coach that can implement a blueprint to properly scout, develop talent and work the cap. But there have been numerous disasters at GM, former players and proven GM’s that couldn’t get it done.

Hopefully, John Madden and Ron Wolf can get a list going, but they’re behind the eight ball since the cupboard is bare as far as draft picks are concerned and they have ridiculous guaranteed money shelled out to Carson Palmer, Michael Huff, Stanford Routt, Tommy Kelly, Richard Seymour and Kamerion Wimbley. It will be interesting to see if they go in a different direction with someone with minimal experience , but knowledgeable about the draft such as Mike Mayock or Ravens Scouting director Vince Newsome. They have low revenue, and a lot of off-field stuff that clouds the issue as well.

usually a gm chooses the coach. this seems a little backwards. west coast stuff i guess.

Matt Millen is NOT GM material. Just ask any Detroit Lion’s fan!

I think you mean to say “180″. If the “fake” Raiders fans do a “360″ after the Raiders win the west (which they won’t), then that means the “fake” Raiders fans will still think Hue sucks & the Palmer trade was dumb.

Hue isn’t going anywhere. He’s a very good offensive mind. He’s in his first year as headcoach and has done a commendable job considering how banged up this team has been over the last couple months. What they need to do is find a better DC and whip that defense into shape. Also, people don’t realize how big of a loss Shaughnessy is for this defense.

Hope they stay away from Eric decosta but with hues former ties to the ravens it’s very likely also he been mentioned for years by teams looking for a gm but he’s the heir apperant to Ozzie newsome and I think that’s why he’s turned down a few jobs

  23. gln9213 says: Dec 18, 2011 12:05 PM

Hopefully Mark Davis and Amy Trask can see Hue Jackson for what he is, a lousy coach. New GM and Coach for 2012 is what’s needed in Oakland.

I agree. They refused permission for the Raiders to hire Rex Ryan a few years back, and Oakland settled on Rob Ryan, then Jackson wanted Dennis Thurman and they refused permission on that interview, too. I doubt DeCosta would go, and I thought that would be a fantastic choice….Newsome and he have done a magnificent job over there…they’d be even more dominant had they found an elite QB …

  25. masterblaster78 says: Dec 18, 2011 12:13 PM

No Matt Millen, though he was a beast playing the game, he can’t manage a team. Ask Detroit fans what he did. John Madden comes to mind as the logical choice. Anyone ever think of Tom Flores? The Raiders have to get a GM in place way before the draft who knows what they’re doing. They have to mesh with the coaches and owners alike. They have to be respected from the team, the owners, the fans………..Can John or Tom fit the bill??? Will they take the job???

  26. steeltown56 says: Dec 18, 2011 12:17 PM

Yes they do! Hue Jackson and a Ouija Board to contact Al Davis.

  27. raidersfreak says: Dec 18, 2011 12:23 PM

Mr patriot 42 it kills me to say this because I really need the patriots to win, but tebow is going to own you today. He has Jesus juice in the 4th qtr.

There have been way too many injuries to both sides of the ball to really judge what Hue can do. He’s had to shuffle the lineup EVERY week, and has to adjust the game plan to accommodate the changes. I think the jury is still out on Hue, but at this point he has my support. The real question is what’s going to happen when Jason Campbell comes back (I hear that it’s within the next week or so) and Carson continues to throw picks. That will go a long way in showing what we have in Coach Jackson.

  29. raidersfreak says: Dec 18, 2011 12:28 PM

The raiders do need a real GM to put Jackson in Check when he wants to put all his players in the nursery. A gm would IR MCflakken and gets us a LB.

Be like the old days and play hurt some of these guys these are soft missing in action and Mcflakken almost 3 months for a top sprang foot. Ridiculous.

It’s amazing how people run there mind on here, I like for someone to tell me if we did not get CP3 who have we used for QB…and remember McFadden,Ford, and Moore where still healthy.

  31. raiders757 says: Dec 18, 2011 1:09 PM

Good ol’ Flo, making fact out of rumors and speculation. Fact is, nobody outside of the Raiders inner circle knows if they have a list, or not, let alone who might be on said list. Maybe Flo is correct. Maybe the Raiders haven’t wrote anything down on paper yet. Is this really news?

  32. mrcosio says: Dec 18, 2011 2:56 PM

Correction to title; The Raiders have no list of GM candidates they are willing to share with the public at this time

  33. raiderbob56 says: Dec 19, 2011 8:49 AM

The way I see it, Hue has to be put under the new GM to reign him in. He should not be calling the plays and EVERY Defensive coach should be fired. This team has too much tallent to be this bad.
