I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.. I hate all this “Suck for Luck” talk as it almost implies teams should lose on purpose to set themselves up for next year. They really should look into a lottery system for top 5 picks.
_____________________________
The lottery system in the NBA is ridiculous. The current system in the NFL is designed specifically to promote parity, and it's not going anywhere. Furthermore, there's no need to change the current system. Losing to get a better draft pick may be an interesting topic for fans or writers, but it just doesn't happen in the NFL. There are simply too many people that would have to go along with it, and for almost all of them it would be damaging to their careers. So, thinking logically, why would someone put their career at risk simply to help their team draft a player who might not be a big help until after they're gone. Remember, teams with horrible seasons tend to have more turnover in their rosters, and FAs coming from such teams are likely to make less money on the open market. Tanking simply doesn't make any sense for the players...and that's ignoring the fact that these players made it to the NFL by being more competitive than the thousands of college football players who never made it to the pros.

Do none of the “experts” see Kellen Moore as a top QB prospect ?

Goobs, it's because Moore sucks as a prospect. These experts also get paid for what they do. If you think you are so good, then submit your resume to an NFL team. Moore is like Chase Daniels and Colt Brennan, good college QBs are not legitimate QB prospects.

And how many QBs are supposed to be better than Tom Brady?

==================================
For every Tom Brady there is tons of Brodie Croyles, Chris Redmans, Kellen Clemens, Rusty Hilger, and tons of other mid to late round QBs who did nothing. The failure rate of non-first round QBs are much higher than 1st round QBs. Most playoff teams or contenders have 1st round QBs.

lol at the people that think the Vikes can just get rid of Ponder for a 1st or 2nd rounder easy. He barely had a better rookie season than Gabbert and what, there are going to be teams dying to get Ponder?

They'd be lucky to get a late 3rd rounder for him.

MJD is on the verge of being the NFL rushing champ this year, no way he lays down for anyone.

Perhaps Irsay and Polian were told that Luck will pull an Elway and force his way off the Colts?

That's the only explanation

It's still clear that the Colts were tanking games early on and there's nothing to stop them from doing the same - the only challenge would be if the Jags decide to tank a game too

@musiccitymiracle:

Just because your sorry a$$ team couldn’t beat an 0-13 team while you had a chance to stay in the playoff hunt doesn’t mean you need to start celebrating or looking for a reason to celebrate. Finding joy in the notion that the Colts may lose the #1 pick and a rookie QB is weak. Can’t wait to see y’alls sorry ass this week in Nashville.

I’ll take Gabbert over TJ Yates right now. Yates’ only first down was that bobbling catch by Jones in the 2nd half? We SUCK and haven’t started the same OL two games in a row and haven’t sucked that bad.

=========================

Well Gabbert is a 1st round draft pick and Yates was like a 5th round draft pick. Gabbert is suppose to be better than Yates.

Two beefs with this article:
1) None of these teams are going to tank a game for some media-speculated agenda. There's 53 professional athletes and numerous coaches on both sides whose livelihood and reputation are at stake, and these performance records are preserved and stick with them for eternity. Any player who would even agree to throw a game should quit the business. You can't help if you suck more than the other team, but you better play to win or don't bother coming out the tunnel.

2) The standards for a "surge" are certainly low these days. 13 straight losses capped by wins over one mediocre team having an off-day, and one 3-pt home win over an injury-ravaged and questionably penalized team.

Two beefs with this article:
1) None of these teams are going to tank a game for some media-speculated agenda. There’s 53 professional athletes and numerous coaches on both sides whose livelihood and reputation are at stake, and these performance records are preserved and stick with them for eternity. Any player who would even agree to throw a game should quit the business. You can’t help if you suck more than the other team, but you better play to win or don’t bother coming out the tunnel.

I disagree with the analysis that the Rams or Vikings wouldn’t select Luck. … It might be even more likely they would trade away their current young QB’s instead of trading away Luck. … Bradford is still unproven and has a history of injuries
--------------------------------------------------------------
IF the Rams get the 1st pick FORGET about Luck to the Rams. people keep saying that Bradford will be quit on, BUT you have to keep in mind the money Bradford is being paid!!! ADD to that, do you really believe that Andrew Luck is better than Sam Bradford??? Bradford has proven for a least one year that when protected that he can throw the ball and throw it well, he's had a down year, but half that blame can be on the offensive line. quitting on Bradford would make him a costly backup and yes you can trade him, but who would do it and why would a team trade for Bradford and his contract??? the only team who could do that is Washington, i actually though HOPE the Rams get the pick. the Colts dont need this pick, they should use a 2nd rounder on a QB, the Vikings will likely upset Washington, so i dont see that pick happening, but the Rams make more sense to get the pick because their o-line stinks.

"If the Colts lose to the Jaguars in Jacksonville on January 1, they’ll clinch the pick via the strength of schedule tiebreaker, which is the first measure used to determine draft position among non-playoff teams."

Mike,

How in the world did STATS come up with that?

The Colts & Vikings played five common opponents, so their records affect both teams equally (NO, Atl, TB, Car & KC). Currently the win/loss record for the Vikings' opponents is 63-49 & Indy's opponents is 64-39 (the extra game being the one last night).

An opponent (of either the Colts or Vikes) playing another opponent from their schedule (i.e Green Bay vs. Detroit & Chicago) in the final two weeks doesn't affect anything since it will add one win and one loss to the over-all record no matter who wins.

That leaves the following games that can affect the strength of schedule for the Colts & Vikings.

Colts opponents:
Steelers vs. Rams
Patriots vs. Dolphins
Patriots vs. Bills
Bengals vs. Cardinals (Viking opponent by the way)

Vikings opponents:
Denver vs. Bills
Redskins vs. Eagles
Cardinals vs. Seahawkes
Cardinals vs. Bengals (Indy opponent)

The Colts strength of schedule is currently one win stronger than the Vikings schedule. So how, when the Colts' opponents could win all four of the above games and the Vikings's opponents could lose all four of theirs, can the Colts be assured of a weaker strength of schedule if they lose to Jacksonville?

I must be missing something. Can anyone help me out? I'm sure it will be something simple.

Just because your sorry a$$ team couldn't beat an 0-13 team while you had a chance to stay in the playoff hunt doesn't mean you need to start celebrating or looking for a reason to celebrate. Finding joy in the notion that the Colts may lose the #1 pick and a rookie QB is weak. Can't wait to see y'alls sorry ass this week in Nashville.

I'll take Gabbert over TJ Yates right now. Yates' only first down was that bobbling catch by Jones in the 2nd half? We SUCK and haven't started the same OL two games in a row and haven't sucked that bad. Arian Foster's posture sitting down laid back on the bench while the defense collapsed said it all. He is the team, much like MJD is the only legit offensive starter in Jacksonville. They're headed for a beatdown against whoever they draw in the wildcard. Write it down. Bet it, even.

The Jags will give the Colts a game. Mel Tucker is trying out for a job. Where do you people get some of these ideas? We may take an ass whipping but we never quit on anyone.

There is too much hype over Luck. The guy has yet to even take a preseason snap, and people have already elected him to the HOF. Easy people, he could be the next Ryan Leaf or JaMarcus Russell. Remember back in 1998 when people said that Leaf would be better than Manning? There could another QB in the draft that will be better than Luck. Just think, Tom Brady was a 6th round pick. Drew Brees, 2nd round, Joe Montana 3rd round. Kurt Warner, not drafted. I'm sure there are others, and the list of great college players who couldn't do anything in the NFL is long.
