You want to know how screwed up the Jerry, Martz, Lovie situation really is?
Now the Bears are talking about drafting a TE because the rest of the league is actually using them to catch passes.
Here is what they have done with the TE position…

* Draft Greg Olson in the 1st round knowing that he was a fast, recieving TE and not a blocker.

* Play him and he gives you exactly what you drafted and he connects with your new QB.

* Trade him away so you can sign a so-called blocking TE to make Martz happy.

* So called blocking TE can’t block and is cut.

* Cut veteran TE that could catch AND block. (Desmind Clark) depleting what may have been your deepest postion on the roster.

* Sign a Steeles cast off (Spaeth) and hope he can catch as well as Greg Olson.

* Start sizing up TEs in next years draft to replace the one you gave away even though you do not know who the offense coordinator is going to be.

Yep…. brilliant to say the least.

The list of available QB’s doesn’t matter. A west coast QB like D Mac, culpepper or even farve is not going to be able to come in and learn the complex Martz system in a couple weeks, it takes months. Once Cutler went down there was only 2 choices. Bulger or Mc Cown that was the only 2 that knew the system. Bulger stayed retired left us with McCown.
It sucks but until we we get rid of the martz system its what we are stuck with.
This all goes back to why Martz wanted a vet back up early in the season and not Hanie. Angelo is an idiot, hence we are shafted this year.

The old saying is that if you have 2 QBs, you really have none. Stocking up on a stellar backup isn’t possible these days. Look at all 32 starters and tell me that QBs ranked 33-64 could really be worth a damn.

Hopefully ONE of the McCaskeys aren’t passed-out or sleeping and hear the Bear’s coaches say “McCown gives us the best chance of winning”. Caleb Hanie has been “coached-up” for the past 5 months by these same coaches. Josh hasn’t started a game in 4 years, was last seen coaching high schoolers 2 months ago, and hadn’t thrown a pass since 2009.

That’s the BEST Angelo and Lovie can do, Chicago?

Your point? Hanie does suck, but Collins was worse. I’d say it proves the Bears front office sucks at evaluating QB talent not Bears fans.

they should’ve addressed their backup qb position when it became their achiles heel in last year’s playoff loss. now it could keep them out of the playoffs. i would be pissed if i were a bears fan. and there were quite a few decent backup free agents they could have gotten for next to nothing. damn man

No McNabb, no Garcia, no Bulger, not even a Favre call….?? Doesnt make sense to me..sure none of these guys are top or even mid tier but SURELY have to be better than the scrap heap of QBs currently on the roster

As a non-fan of the team It doesn’t make sense why you hand over the keys to a playoff team to a dude named Caleb…smh…no wonder why Bears fans want a total house cleaning

There is no way Hanie makes this roster next year. Too old to develop and not good enough to be a backup. Bye Bye Hanie.

I’m a Lions fan but I hope the Bears make some front office changes. Seems like there has been some roster bungling. When you have Josh McCown starting and the playoffs are on the line its time to re-evaluate.
