Revis, Cromartie fire back at Giants wideouts

New York Jets v Washington Redskins Getty Images

When it comes to the rivalry between the Giants and the Jets, the war of words won’t end before their game on Saturday.  Or during.

Or after.

On Thursday, Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis responded to a flurry of insults from Giants receivers Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz, and Mario Manningham.  Revis, along with cornerback Antonio Cromartie, had some impressive remarks, as chronicled by Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

As to the notion that the Giants receivers aren’t “scared” of Revis, the All-Pro was pragmatic.  And literal.  “I’m not a monster,” Revis said.  “So why would anyone be scared?”

That’s humorous.  Which is the same general reaction Revis had to the comments.  “These guys can say whatever they want,” Revis said.  “You just laugh at it. . . .  We’ll see.”

Said Cromartie regarding Nicks and Cruz:  “You got guys that are not even Pro Bowl material. . . .  Who really cares what they have to say?

Cromartie had a particularly harsh combo-diss at Manningham and Cruz.  Said Cromartie of Manningham, “He let a guy named Victor Cruz come in and take his job.”

It adds even more flavor to a stew that has been spiked with a tablespoon of every spice on the rack.  And there likely will be even more stuff thrown into the cauldron before Saturday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

“You are looking live at TrashTalk Bowl 2011″

Whatever ref crew has the game in Jersey this weekend is going to give themselves and their flags a workout.

Vegas has the Over/Under on ejections already at 2-1/2.

  8. waggs12 says: Dec 22, 2011 4:26 PM

If Revis was as good as he thinks he is, the Yets wouldn’t be 8-6. The Eagles have been a joke this year and they still put up 45 on you, Darrelle! He and Rex need to shut up already. Some people are so enamored with themselves that they can’t realize how insignificant they really are. Wake up, idiots! Once you win something, then you can start talking.

  9. granadafan says: Dec 22, 2011 4:27 PM

I feel like I’m watching a WWE style “confrontation” between the opponents which is pre-fabricated and scripted by show writers to gain attention.

  14. bolt4life says: Dec 22, 2011 4:28 PM

Revis has all the right in the world to fire back at them.

Cromartie, just shut up you idiot. You were the Jets’ third choice anyways.

  15. zaggs says: Dec 22, 2011 4:29 PM

So Cromartie is a racist along with a crap father. Awesome.

  16. 2difshoe says: Dec 22, 2011 4:29 PM

    Like coach, like player !

Rex and his loose mouth has rubbed off on his players now, and they too sound ridiculous.
Talk is cheap, leave it on the field.

    Losing record, losing attitude.

Maybe it’s time to harness that mouth Rex !?!?

  18. rpiotr01 says: Dec 22, 2011 4:31 PM

Cruz is an excellent and polished route runner considering he’s only a rookie. Very much like Greg Jennings. He’s definitely pro-bowl worthy. Way more so than Cromartie.

  19. caseyanthonymunoz says: Dec 22, 2011 4:32 PM

The Battle of New Jersey. Yawn. Don’t expect any brilliant quotes from either of these two borderline playoff teams.

  20. promin1 says: Dec 22, 2011 4:35 PM

LOL @ Cromartie. You can’t be serious. Both Giant WRs are over 1,000 yds and Cruz who was a walk on free agent abused Asomugha, a much better corner than you pal. I got news for ya, you ain’t pro bowl material either.

  21. phillysports25 says: Dec 22, 2011 4:36 PM

You’re both fighting for your playoff lives. Stop talking, and just leave it on the field. Please.

  29. marcuswelby70 says: Dec 22, 2011 4:49 PM

Cromartie has a lot to say for a guy who is very average at best.
A few weeks back when they lost to the Broncos it was Cromartie who stood in the end zone with a Broncos receiver and never came out to meet Tebow who had taken off running from around the 22 yard line. He should have met him around the ten instead he chose to do nothing and cost his team seven points. Why Ryan didn’t bench him on the spot is beyond me.

  30. batterychucker25 says: Dec 22, 2011 4:50 PM

Will you guys just shut up and let your play do the talking?

Every week, these idiots are bumping their gums, and they only back up the talk about half the time.

  33. sbxxix says: Dec 22, 2011 4:53 PM

Tebow, Rex and Rob Ryan, overrated NFC East and Packers…

That’s all we hear on the NFL. Can we talk about something else. The NFC West has two teams sitting at 7-7 in the wild card race yet we hear nothing about them. I’m tired of all the East coast teams getting all the publicity. It’s the same story every week. The Ryans said this, Jerry Jones said that, God talked to Tebow blah blah blah blah switch it up please

  34. crp63 says: Dec 22, 2011 4:53 PM

Hopefully the Giants win, then lose to the Cowboys and that way both underachieving New York teams can fight it out Twitter style the whole month of January… neither of them deserve to be in the playoffs anyway…..

I think he means that Manningham has a pedigree, Michigan guy, 3rd round pick, etc. and Victor Cruz doesn’t (undrafted free agent out of nowhere).

  36. blaz0037 says: Dec 22, 2011 4:55 PM

I wonder how long it will take for the home fans to boo their own team….it only took the Giants fans 3 plays when they played on MNF. No joke, one 3-and-out and they booed their own team on national television.

NYC, the DEFINITION of fair-weather fans.

  37. pixelito says: Dec 22, 2011 4:55 PM

I’m pretty sure both Nicks and Cruz are playing at a Pro Bowl level.

  38. letsgetit9ers says: Dec 22, 2011 4:57 PM

Revis has not been the player hes been in the past, Because of the jets front 7 being a weakness. You can only cover for so long. Im jus sayin….. My name is Victor, tell cromartie to look up the definition, hes gonna get burned this week

  39. trbowman says: Dec 22, 2011 4:59 PM

Manningham is going to go off now. Don’t poke a sleeping giant.

  40. spencodude says: Dec 22, 2011 5:03 PM

Victor Cruz isn’t a rookie. hes been in the league a few years. was on IR last year. get your facts straight buddy.

  41. Stiller43 says: Dec 22, 2011 5:03 PM

Cromartie regularly flakes on tackles, and was going to be replaced with asomugah this offseason. I wouldnt be bragging id i were him.

  42. edgerules says: Dec 22, 2011 5:05 PM

I mean, really. The trash talking, mainly on the Jets’ side is hysterical. They cut better promos than some of the wrestlers on WWE. I mean, what has the Paper Planes done to talk so much? Sure, it is great that Rex Ryan got them to two AFC Championship games. Nice, but that is like bragging about finishing second in the Kentucky Derby twice in a row.

When I see those Paper Planes with the proverbial blanket of Roses on them, then I will take them seriously.

  43. DubZ480 says: Dec 22, 2011 5:06 PM

Man, Cromartie is smack talking? Really. The guys who Brent Celek incinerated last week?

  44. crunchyclam says: Dec 22, 2011 5:14 PM

@zaggs @marvsleezy Racism?! That’s a pretty big stretch. Cromartie was commenting on how Cruz basically came out nowhere (practice squad) to take Manningham’s job.

@rpiotr01 Cruz is good… but he’s not a rookie. He had 4 TDs against the Jets in a 2010 preseason game. Do you follow your own team?

    @2difshoe
    “2difshoe says:
    Losing record, losing attitude.”

-Losing record? Are you referring to this season or Rex’s overall record? Either way, you would be mistaken.

  45. wlubake says: Dec 22, 2011 5:15 PM

“He let a guy named Victor Cruz come in and take his job.”

You mean the same Victor Cruz who is 4th in the NFL in receiving yards? Behind only Welker, Megatron and Steve Smith?

Seriously Manningham, how do you let a bum like that pass you on the depth chart?

The truth is, Manningham will go somewhere else next year and be a featured receiver. He’s one of the best 32 receivers in the league. The problem is that he’s got two top 20 receivers on the same roster.

  46. claymatthewsisonsteroids says: Dec 22, 2011 5:17 PM

Both teams need to get all their trash talking in now while they can, neither one will be around for the playoffs.

  47. coolgato13 says: Dec 22, 2011 5:20 PM

  48. damnsureis says: Dec 22, 2011 5:22 PM

Said Cromartie regarding Nicks and Cruz: “You got guys that are not even Pro Bowl material. . . . Who really cares what they have to say?“

Exactly. Which is why no one cares what Cromartie has to say.

  49. eric12401 says: Dec 22, 2011 5:23 PM

I’m surprised Octodad can remember Cruz’s name.

  50. gcsuk says: Dec 22, 2011 5:24 PM

Hey Cro, once the coaches and players have their say, we’ll see if Victor Cruz is “Pro Bowl material”.

I’d say there’s a good chance he makes it to Hawaii this year…at least, a better chance than you making it.

It’s not Cruz’s fault the fans can’t vote for him. You, on the other hand, have no such excuse.

Wow… flashback 1972? You can talk smack when your team wins a SB this decade/century. Reveling in a 39 year old victory is pathetic. Just like your team, coach, and most of your players.

  53. milehighsal says: Dec 22, 2011 5:31 PM

Jets need to be more worried about JPP and less about talking. He’s a monster who will hand D’Brickshaw his jock strap after sack #1 of at least 2 or 3 in the game.

fortunately one of these teams are going to win. Barring a tie(which should done away with btw). Does it really matter that both teams are chirping? no. Entertaining for the fans, but most of these players are ‘homies’ off the field

Not a fan of either team..but @ least the Giants have a history of winning something in the last 4 decades or so.

Revis had a great year 2 years ago..but,,what has he done since?…Teams like NE, Philadelphia..even Miami…shredding them up.

Once jets eliminated…the parasite will disappear….So, please Giants shut them up once and forever.

    43 years jets fans…happy anniversary!!!!

  59. lowleadman says: Dec 22, 2011 6:00 PM

You obviously dont know what the hell your talking about cause reevus will walk right into the hall on the first ballot with ease. Its not his fault sanchez cant play qb!the numbers should speak for theirselves. Ive never seen a cover corner that comes close to his level and its been a great pleasure to watch him play.

  69. vman0626 says: Dec 22, 2011 8:46 PM

this is more obnoxious trash BS from the ‘jests’.

to be fair, all the giants wr said was they weren’t scared of bevis, and that they would throw at him.

what are they supposed to say? and the gmen can’t run the ball – their whole game is predicated upon eli and the passing attack.

can the jests just shut up already?

  70. dlk47823 says: Dec 22, 2011 9:02 PM

This is fantastic! Earlier this year I envisioned this scenario, both New York teams meeting in a week 16 matchup, and desperately needing a victory.

I pictured Jets fans pummeling Giants fans. Giants fan pounding Jets fans. Beautiful!

And now they are talking trash? If there is a God in heaven above, this game goes into OT, the loser is out of the playoffs, and the Meadowlands is set ablaze by the dejected fans of the losing team.

The only thing better would be the Steelers going 8-8. No playoffs and no high first round pick.

    Wee hah!
