Rob Ryan: I’ll get a head-coaching job, but that doesn’t motivate me

Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan wants to be a head coach, and he thinks he will be a head coach. But he says that’s not what he’s thinking about with the Cowboys fighting for the NFC East title.

“That’s great, but the bottom line is we’re here together to win a championship and that’s why Jason [Garrett] hired me and that’s why Jerry [Jones] hired me,” Ryan said, via the Dallas Morning News. “That’s what we’re going to do. Trust me, I’m not all motivated just to be a head coach because, hey, that’s going to happen.”

Ryan said the job he has now is a job he could be happy having for a long time.

“I love it here,” he said. “I love these guys. Everything is great. Bottom line is we’re real happy here. My family is happy here. We want to win and we got the players to do it.”

Of course, if Ryan’s defense plays against the Eagles on Saturday the way it played against the Eagles in October, when Philadelphia won 34-7, no one will be talking about Ryan as a head-coaching candidate. And some people will be questioning whether he even deserves to keep his job as defensive coordinator.
