The jubilation following Houston’s first playoff appearance in franchise history has quickly turned to panic.

A sampling from the coverage from the Houston Chronicle on Friday:

“In what might have been the worst performance by the Texans in Gary Kubiak’s six seasons as coach, they somehow found a way to lose a second consecutive game to team with a losing record,” John McClain wrote.

It gets worse.

Another column suggests the team should consider benching quarterback T.J. Yates for Jake Delhomme. It’s worth noting Yates was 13-for-16 on Thursday, and he averaged over eight yards-per-attempt. He wasn’t the problem. The team needs to be dominant around him, and they weren’t.

McClain wrote another article with the headline: “Texans may need to bench [Kareem] Jackson after another terrible outing.”

Finally, the fans have all but given up hope on the year. 83% of readers responding to an online poll believe the Texans will lose in the first round of the playoffs.

Was that heroes welcome for the Texans after their win in Cincinnati really only 12 days ago?
