McCloughan claims he was joking

sp_49ers_draft_footb-1

On Friday, former 49ers General Manager Scot McCloughan made a few waves with his comments regarding his current team’s upcoming game.  McCloughan, who now works as a senior personnel executive with the Seahawks, made a Ryanesque boast in an interview with Michael Silver of Yahoo! Sports.

“They come to our place Christmas Eve, and we’re going to beat the hell out of ‘em,” McCloughan said of the Niners.

McCloughan has tried to take a little of the sting out of his remarks.  “It was done in a joking manner,” McCoughan told Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com.

Also, Silver has since revised his item to explain that McCloughan was laughing when he said what he said.

But McCloughan still said what he said.  And 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh surely will use those words to help his team avoid the same fate that awaited his brother’s team last month in Seattle.

Sure it was. Too late, pal. We’re coming up to Seattle and leaving with a W. Thanks for the bulletin board material, tho.

    He sobered up

  3. pacificnw7722 says: Dec 24, 2011 12:02 AM

Who cares if he was joking or not…..Seattle “D” is going to CRUSH the damn 40 Whiners!

  4. rajbais says: Dec 24, 2011 12:23 AM

Why are the Seattle Seahawks’ executives so stupid and blurt out EVERYTHING when they speak to Mike Silver???

First, it was John Schneider on T-Jack allegedly being “jerked around” in Minnesota and McCloughan on this?????

  5. imleftcoast says: Dec 24, 2011 12:27 AM

Let’s see it. Hawks have nothing to lose and need to get back some pride in this one.

  6. cowhawkfan says: Dec 24, 2011 12:29 AM

So Silver turned a none story into a story by not telling the whole story.
    Great journalism!

Smith, Gore, staley, Walker, Davis, Snyder, Haralson, Willis, Staley, Goldson, sopoaga (erickson), mcdonald, brown,

You guys all forget that most of those picks were actually Mike Nolans Picks not scott’s. Scott only had 2 drafts, one was a disaster, picking balmer and rachal on the first 2 rounds over D JAckson.. and the 2nd was in 2009 where he picked Crabs in the first round and then he got the following:
    Coffee -retired after 1 season
scott mckilop – no longer with the team
Bear Pasco – didnt make the team in his rookie season
nate davis – no longer in the league i believe
Ricky jean – best value pick he had

So you see.. this guy did nothing to make this team better!!!

SF…… Most overrated team in the NFL. One and done in the playoffs, oh and they lose this game

I read the mike silver story on mccloughan. I have to say that the tone of the article made mccloughan seem like the reason why the niners are winning today.

I doubt if this comment ever gets published by pfl but here goes. Mccloughan could not and did not effectively do his job for a myriad of reasons:

    1. He was dogged by a bad marriage and infidelity accusations of a relationship with a 49er staffer.

    2. His substance abuse problem throughout his time came to a crashing end after an emberassing incident at the nfl combine.

    3. Between recovering from alcohol and other substances, mccloughan (towards the end of his tenure) routinely missed or was late for staff meetings.

    4. For every great pic mccloughan made, there was just as any poor pics that were made.

Very nice man that comes from a great football family but with all do respect, he’s not the reason the niners are winning today.

the damage is done…niners will take no prisoners, watch out seahawks!!

  13. bearsrulepackdrool says: Dec 24, 2011 1:43 AM

You don’t say. Here I thought he was going to beat them so bad demons were going to come running out of their bodies and the whole field would burst into flames.

  14. aaroncurryisbust says: Dec 24, 2011 1:50 AM

Seattle is going to send those overrated turdmuffins back to the Bay Area with their tails between their legs. GO SEAHAWKS! MCCLOUGHAN IS RIGHT!

  15. msclemons67 says: Dec 24, 2011 2:00 AM

Ah, poor Scot fell off the wagon again. Pity.

  16. souldogdave says: Dec 24, 2011 2:15 AM

    Have another drink, Scott.

  17. bleed4philly says: Dec 24, 2011 2:45 AM

That’s not something you should joke about. He looks like a jackass now, even if they end up winning.

  18. hawkman84 says: Dec 24, 2011 3:03 AM

    LET’S! GO!

  22. swagjag says: Dec 24, 2011 7:49 AM

Michael Silver will get some credibility when he stops regurgitating that ridiculous annual owners ranking article that always has Dan Snyder in the top 5.

  23. kingaldon99 says: Dec 24, 2011 7:50 AM

Over……rated….niners? Clearly you dont know the game of football. You should probably leaving the posting alone and back to watching Dora the explora

  24. kenboslice says: Dec 24, 2011 8:17 AM

If the niners need bulletin board material then they have some issues. that stuff is overrated.

  25. mrk68 says: Dec 24, 2011 9:10 AM

What exactly do you expect him to say? “We’re going to lose”??? For real…lighten up. It’s obvious McC has great respect for everyone in the SF organization and is proud to have taken part in it. Why is that so wrong?

  26. trollhammer20 says: Dec 24, 2011 9:22 AM

Judging from the comments of most the Niners fans in this article, if he had kept his mouth shut, the Niners would have been in serious trouble.

If you needed something like to get your attention, jeez, how soft are you?

  27. marcsasharc says: Dec 24, 2011 10:18 AM

There’s a difference between needing bulletin board material and using it. Don’t worry seachicken fans, Frederick P. Soft won’t be making a return today. Pete Carrol has nightmares about Harbaugh. It’s going to be fun to eliminate you from playoff contention today.

  28. oklahomaseahawk says: Dec 24, 2011 10:40 AM

How many teams could lose 6 starters and keep up with anybody, don’t worry I’ll wait…
That bein said San Frans 1st win came against a young team with alotta new starters after a lockout & this game will be played against a less powerful Seahawks team. Yes we’ve been winning but that just shows how good the coaching staff is starters are starters for a reason. I just wanna see a good game I have my validation in how promising the future is in Seattle.
(Side note) Habaugh doin it wit Tha guy in the pics ppl while Pete did a complete makeover. That bein said age is going to hit San Frans defense in like 2yrs & we’ll be in our prime.

  29. 49erlifer says: Dec 24, 2011 11:33 AM

I love listening to these seattle fans run there mouths like a marathon one problem your franchise hasn’t won anything in its existence maybe they should move to OK city too. GO NINERS

  30. kingaldon99 says: Dec 24, 2011 11:34 AM

Age is goin to hit San frans D? like who? Willis, boweman, aldon,Brooks, brown, goldson? They will all be in their prime when your supposed two year time frame hits!

  31. kingaldon99 says: Dec 24, 2011 11:37 AM

So much hate on Christmas eve! Why not just enjoy the game and acknowledge the fact that San Fran is the superior team this year but seahags do have potential moving forward

  32. rainponcho87 says: Dec 24, 2011 11:40 AM

I don’t the 49ers should need extra motivation for this game. It is a division rival and both teams are positioning themselves for the playoffs. Win and niners probably knock seattle out while almost guaranteeing themselves the 2 spot. The last game against the rams will be a lot easier. That said, not smart of mcClueless to feed into harbaugh’s ‘we’ll show you’ motivational style. Should be a good game: Caroll vs Harbaugh 2, playoff seeding, division rivals, loud stadium!

  33. thesportgenius says: Dec 24, 2011 12:30 PM

The Hawks are tough at home but the Niners are a better team and will win a tough defensive game. Seattle’s streak is against the Bears with no QB or RB, the Rams that are horrible, and the Eagles with VY the turnover machine at QB. Not really that impressive.

  34. marcsasharc says: Dec 24, 2011 12:48 PM

All day Aldon is licking his chops. 1.5 sacks away from the rookie record held by Jevon Kearse.

    ———————————————————-
Well, lets see.. he said “beat the hell out of them” if the niners had said.. “we’re going to beat the hell out of the seahawks” what would be your first reaction?
Saying that they will win is one thing.. saying that they will BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THEM, a 11-3 team that commands the best D in football is having a big mouth.

  36. mrlynch33 says: Dec 24, 2011 2:27 PM

@oklahomaseahawk…you do know that Harbaugh got rid of half the Niners defense from last year right? Picked up Rogers, Whitner and Aldon Smith on his own. Still think he is doing it with guys who were there?
Anyway….I expect this to be a good game…I just think Aldon Smith will have a big game again

  37. sixjak says: Dec 24, 2011 3:41 PM

This game will be THE game to watch this weekend. Too bad all the sheeple watching the network and ESPN will only hear about Tebomania and how it all went wrong for the Eagles and other nonsense about teams that are s’posed to matter but don’t. Everyone enjoy the game and have a Merry Christmas.

My first reaction? Somebody is loyal to their team. Like every player and every real fan would say before their team goes onto the field. Why are you so against a positive attitude?
