Wrong on both counts. CBS and Fox clearly don’t think being a rematch of another primetime game is prohibitive, since they’ve protected plenty of such games in the past, and I only counted five Cowboys primetime games. No team is ever scheduled for six before the season, and the only game to be flexed into primetime was Lions-Saints.

Actually, that is not correct. The Giants would be playing to knock out the Cowboys from the playoffs. Recall how they played all out in 2008 against the Patriots with nothing to play for. I have no doubt they’d play all out to eliminate the Cowboys. Sure, they aren’t really interested in helping the Eagles either, but given the choice of laying down and letting the Cowboys in, or playing all out to sink the Cowboys with them, I know what Coughlin and the Giants will choose.

I think it is safe to say that they will play a lot harder when fighting for a playoff spot than simply playing a game that, either way, will eliminate one rival and put another into the post-season.

If Detroit loses to the Chargers and Packers, and both of these teams win this weekend, then this game would be for the final playoff spot.

So, yes, it’s unlikely, but it is possible.

Figure if Dallas and New York get things sorted this weekend, and the other three necessary games (Det.-SD, AZ-Cincy, and Seattle-SF) go the right way, then this will be the matchup on Sunday night, even though a Detroit win over Green Bay would effectively make the game irrelevant to everything but draft order.
