The Eagles were eliminated from playoff contention shortly their game kicked off Saturday because the Giants won.
Dallas’ slight chance at staying alive for a Wild Card spot ended because of the other results Saturday. We knew early that next Sunday’s Cowboys-Giants game would decide the NFC East champion.
In short, Saturday’s Cowboys-Eagles game meant very little. And it played out that way.
The Eagles won 20-7 in Dallas, finishing off a meaningless sweep of the Cowboys to push the Eagles’ record to 7-8. The Cowboys didn’t score until a blocked punt and a garbage time score with under a minute left.
Steven McGee replaced Romo and looked like you expect a backup to look. He completed 24-of-38 passes for only 182 yards.
For Dallas, this week is all about Romo’s health. He was seen telling teammates he’d be fine on the sideline during the game, but the team needs the swelling in his hand to go down.
For the Eagles, this late run of convincing wins should only add to the frustration of this season. It points out what an underachieving team they were for the first 12 weeks of the year.
The Eagles had the talent to be a Super Bowl contender, but they are only earning moral victories now.
