Titans coach Mike Munchak said this week that the team was trying to get tight end Jared Cook more involved in the offense this week.
Mission accomplished. Cook caught six passes for 136 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown, to help the Titans to a 17-10 halftime lead over the Jaguars. Cook had 103 yards last week in the loss to the Colts, so this kind of performance isn’t totally out of left field. Judging by their attempts to cover Cook, it seems to have come as a surprise to Jacksonville however.
They haven’t had much more luck covering the other Titans receivers as Matt Hasselbeck has 240 yards through the first two quarters. Their approach offensively has been much better than it was in the loss to the Colts, even though Chris Johnson has been a total non-factor through two quarters.
Blaine Gabbert’s play -- 13-of-21, 128 yards, no turnovers -- has been a bright spot for the Jags as has the fact that Maurice Jones-Drew missed just two plays after hurting his ankle on the first snap of the game. He scored a touchdown to tie Fred Taylor for the most rushing touchdowns in franchise history.
