Jets have one captain: Plaxico Burress

Getty Images

Before the Battle of New York officially began, the two teams sent their captains to midfield for the coin toss.

The Jets sent only one player.  Former Giants receiver Plaxico Burress.

It’s common for Jets coach Rex Ryan to use those past connections when picking game captains.  And while it’s no surprise that Burress is one of the captains, it’s indeed surprising that he was the only captain.

Before the game, the Jets introduced their defense to the “home” crowd.  But they also introduced Burress.

He paid his debt to society.

Live and let live…I guess !

I love how the Jets and Burress act like the Giants had no reason to cut him…..dude, you shot yourself in the freaking leg and spent time in prison. You should feel lucky to still be in the NFL.

    Well played Rex, well played.

This is one of the reason players love Rex. You may hate his talking but the 53 players in the locker room love him.

    Rex Ryan is an idiot

Only the Jets would make Plaxico out to be a victim. His stupidity derailed a Giants team that was having a great season. He should apologize over and over and over for hurting the Giants.

Something for the NYC tabloids to lap up the next couple days in lieu of columns about the layoffs for either of these two over hyped teams.

This isn’t about Plax having been cut because he shot himself and was likely going to prison. The Giants were rumored to be a place that might sign him when he came back, after he paid the price for his idiocy. He felt hurt.

But this is more about for the fans. Here’s one of the guys that won that last Super Bowl for you…please…root against us. 😉

it is scary to think how good the jets would be with an elite qb.

Cromartie, you just let a guy named Victor Cruz go 99 yards!

  12. zaggs says: Dec 24, 2011 2:27 PM

Fix is in for the Jets. Dude was not down.

  13. khuxford says: Dec 24, 2011 2:33 PM

Zaggs: are you that big of an idiot? The elbow was down and the forearm was on the foot. As long as the tip of the elbow hit the ground already, he was down. If he was being tackled, had his elbow hit the ground and then broke out to run for a TD, you’d be the FIRST person bitching he was down.

its actually the giants who would get revenge on plaxico…….. how easy people forget, this guy was carrying around illegal firearms, loaded, with the safety off in public places. Luckily it was his stupid self that got shot and not someone decent. The world would be a better place without plaxico Burress.

Jets should be less worried about playing the games (media bullcrap, spouting off, sending out a single captain) and more worried about playing THE game. They’re clearly demonstrating they can’t focus on both…
