no offense to you kir, however, college accomplishments mean little when critiquing an nfl quarterback .. how many elite nfl qbs won a ‘national title’ ? .. manning sure didn’t .. neither did brees, roethlisberger, rivers, etc etc .. in fact the majority of national title winning qbs that I can think of never did squat in the nfl .. not a good measuring stick .. Luck may very well come in and do very well immediately .. we just don’t know

Tim Tebow should never even be mentioned in the same sentence as Cam Newton unless you are describing how far in between they are. I’ll give credit to Andy Dalton who is doing quite well for himself this year. It drives me nuts when all i hear is tebow on the TV when their is a rookie QB who is breaking records left and right and is going against what everyone said he would do. Newton has almost thrown for twice the amount of yards as tebow and still has a better completion rating as well as more rushing td’s and passing td’s.
I have no hate for the denver broncos just for the brainless tebow followers who cant read stats. Give credit to where it is due—-THE DENVER DEFENSE is incredible and yet it gets washed out by tebow. Who in their right mind would pick Tebow over Newton or any other Qb for the pro-bowl.

I just saw that the Panthers were 21st in the power rankings. Shouldn’t they be #1 since they have the greatest football player the world has ever seen?

You can’t blame Cam for the poor record. Have you seen the Panthers’ D? They have lost starters on the line, linebackers, and in the secodary. They have 5 LBs alone on the IR! Cam has made some bad throws that were picked off, but what rookie hasn’t? If you can’t see that Cam is a revolutionary player and barring injury, will be for years to come, you are blind .

Funny Thing is that all the Professional Cam HATTERS and football guru’s here forget that Cam is one man playing one position and doing a GREAT job at it. The other thing they forget is Defense win Games Offense put people in the seat. while I give credit to Brees, Tebow, Manning, freeman and the rest THEY ARE SIMPLY NOT AS GOOD AS CAM. Talke about a winning record, nither one of those QB’s could have went to Carolina as Rookies and acommplished what Cam has. As far as the Icon Mentallity Cam constantly give his team makes praises and let it be know he could not do it without them.. as for Getting on his level.. look at the last four Games yep they are doing just that and that is the making of a Great leaders.. So the Panthers have a crappy defence is the excuse why Newton does not have a winning?
Maybe Newton has good stats because teams play him soft knowing their offence can score at will on the Panthers defence.
Is the glass half full or half empty?
Let Cam play a few years and win a super bowl before you crown him king … Remember the dream team and Michael Vick … How did that turn out for you?

as a diehard, yet realistic panthers fan, cam doesn’t belong in a class with rodgers, brees, brady, the manning brothers, or even roethlisberger for that matter. comparing newton with this elite group of quarterbacks is not fair to either party, because quite frankly, his skill set is entirely different.

however, my interpretation of offensive ROY is that the award strictly based on individual stats, not wins and losses. giving dalton the award, as great of a season he’s put together, would be unjust. any other year dalton would win it, hands down, but unfortunately his stats are nowhere near as impressive as cam newton’s.

with that being said, the only thing that may stop the saints from making it to indianapolis will be january green bay weather. otherwise, i see them taking the nfc.

Best rookie QB ever?

How about Ben Roethlisberger going 13-0 his rookie year? I mean, the game is about winning. And Ben has 2 SBs and will be a future HOFer.

How about we wait until Cam has 2-3 solid years before we put him in the HOF or proclaim him as the “best QB ever.” At the end of the day, he’s the QB on a 3rd place team with a losing record in an era where QBs everywhere are putting up MONSTER numbers.

Rodgers, Brees, Brady? Ya think maybe all these new rules are helping QBs?

I have made a complete 180 on Newton. I thought he was a fast Jamarcus, and I ripped him constantly. All he has done is prove me wrong every week. The kid can play, and I love to watch him every week. I see a lot of prime time games in his future. I hope he stays healthy and keeps proving me wrong.

Well, I’ve had to eat crow this season because Newton is the real deal and I didn’t think he’d transition well to the pro game, but he is lighting it up. If Carolina can get a defense they will be very tough to beat.

As a Bucs fan we have a long hard road ahead of us in the NFC South…all of the other teams have gotten better in the last 2 seasons and we have gotten worse.

There is not a better division at QB than the NFC South…which really stinks.

That’s correct. He’s not Tim Tebow.

And that’s GREAT news for the Carolina Panthers. Newton’s ability as a passer alone would make him a qualified NFL QB. His running ability just complements it.

Tebow on the other hand is, unfortunately, a gimmick. I like what his heart and what he stands for, but his miracles won’t last. It’s this year’s Wildcat. Look for limited success next year and none the following.

Gale Sayers scored 22 TDs in his rookie season.
He gained 2,272 all-purpose yards, averaged 5.2 yards per rush and 17.5 yards per reception.
He averaged 31.4 yards per kickoff return.
He even threw a TD pass.

And he did it in a 14 game season.
That is a lot better than what Moss did his rookie season.

I’m hard pressed to understand the logic of Tebow being the better QB. I think Newton’s body of work this season and his overall command of a very sophisticated offense merit his standing as a top 10 QB in the NFL. Anyone taking the time to read about what his teammates think of him would understand that Newton is already a leader on that team, and will certainly wear a “C” on his jersey next season. The wins will come, but the most encouraging sign of progress is what’s happening now. They’re winning games with essentially a 2nd/3rd string defense. Think of what will happen when that defense is healthy and a full offseason is under this kid’s belt!

Warren Moon has helped him a ton, so much so if Warren ever wanted a QB coach job in the NFL he should be able to find one lickity split.

I had my doubts about Cam since he was never asked to make a read beyond the 1st or 2nd and then run at Auburn.
But as it is right now he looks like a Steve McNair/ Randall Cunningham type talent.

I can do without the Superman’in in loses and early season though, save that Superman for helping to win a big game in the future.
