Also, I get a kick out of alot of you other “fans” who are criticizing Bengal fans for “not supporting” a team that just clinched it’s 3rd winning season in 21 years.

All you have to do is have a .500 season for and your star QB have an off year and you’re in complete meltdown.

Go sit through 15 losing seasons in a row and get back to us.

(P.S. for good measure for those that don’t know any better, season tickets dictate attendance before the season starts. So for the team who went 4-12, just had their franchise QB quit and was voted worst sports team in sports, it didn’t go over so well.)

So you’re saying that the Ravens haven’t won at PBS in, oh my god, 2 games? Well that sounds like a real losing streak if you ask me. You should’ve at least mentioned how the Bengals beat the Ravens I think 8 of the last 9 meetings leading into this season. That would’ve given your argument a little legitimacy. Before you get on your high horse, no one in the AFCN is really lighting up the scoreboard recently so I wouldn’t claim this game to be a win for the Ravens or the Bengals. This could be a game where no matter how bad both teams could possibly play, one team still has to win (or tie).

As for the “winners sell tickets” arguement, the Bengals had an awful year last year but have been pretty respecitible the last couple of years and hasn’t fan support been mediocre at best (legit question)? You shouldn’t have to rely on the team for 2-for-1 promotions to sell tickets for a winning season if winning is all it takes to draw fans. So you have to win 2 seasons in a row to bring back fans? I’m not trying to crap on the franchise but I’d bet if you were competitive 3 seasons in a row the team would still struggle to draw fans. And with the parody in football, that’s usually all you get, minus a few teams like Pats/Steelers.

Recent history: 2005 we go 11-5 and our QB has his knee wiped out by the Steelers on the very first offensive play. 2006, do we followup with another winning season, nope we go 8-8.

2009, we go 10-6 and sweep the AFC North, but then lose horribly to the Jets in first round of playoffs. The next year we go 4-12.

So, this season is surprising, but we are all waiting for the other shoe to drop next season. Will Mike Brown be able to retain Mike Zimmer and Jay Gruden? Will he stay out of the way when we make our draft picks? Will he expand our anemic scouting department? Will we ever get a GM? Will he allow the locker room to be completely cleansed of trouble makers, bad players and non-team players….apologies to Benson and Caldwell.

If Mike Brown wants us to show up for games, he should know that marketing gimmicks are poor substitutes for a consistently winning team.

Its going to be a great game!

This is a dumb comment. The price point for the tickets is way to high in this market – no shame in actually doing some marketing/promotion.. which is typically a foreign concept for the Bengals.

More importantly, I think it’s more a reflection of the fan base that ownership doesn’t even need to have the stadium full to succeed… the tax payers in Cincy have rewarded the team with the most favorable & lucrative stadium deal in the history of professional sports. In my mind that shows a commitment that few other markets are willing to make… that and 57 straight sell-outs through the end of last year even though the team hasn’t won a playoff game since 1990.

Just look at the Raiders, these last seven years we’ve struggled to sell tickets and now this year we might sell out all eight of our home games since…gosh I don’t even remember the last time we did that.

Now some of the games you can tell ownership bought the remaining tickets, but thats a pretty smart strategy because then fans can see their team on tv and decide “Hey these guys are playing pretty good I should start going to more games”. Too bad Mike Brown is too cheap/not smart enough to buy the Bengals remaining tickets.
