When it comes to Sunday’s Browns-Steelers tilt, the status of Ben Roethlisberger is dominating discussion but he isn’t the only quarterback on the two teams dealing with an injury.

Colt McCoy hasn’t returned to practice since suffering a concussion in the last matchup with the Steelers and Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports that it seems highly unlikely that he’ll be cleared to return in time to play in Sunday’s game. McCoy has started doing some exercise and attends team meetings, but that leaves him well short of being ready to play in a game.

That’s just part of the fallout from McCoy’s injury as there are still questions to be answered about why he was allowed to return to the game without undergoing any concussion tests on the sideline. Any answers will likely come during the offseason which doesn’t start until after Seneca Wallace leads the team into Sunday’s game.

We’ll also have to wait for the offseason for a clearer picture of how the Browns view McCoy. Among quarterbacks who started at least five games this season, McCoy is ahead of only Blaine Gabbert in terms of yards per pass attempt and he didn’t make it clear that he’s the long-term answer at quarterback for the team. The Browns could head in a different direction or they could try to bolster the offense around McCoy in hopes that it brings out better performance in 2012.
