Guys make the game on reputation like Cowboys defensive tackle Jay Ratliff and Dolphins tackle Jake Long. Other deserving young players have to wait their turn like 49ers linebacker Navorro Bowman.
Texans left tackle Duane Brown was one of the players that got overlooked because he doesn’t have a big name. He had a standout year and we’d argue that he was only one of three snubs on the Texans offensive line.
Chris Myers should have made it at center over Maurkice Pouncey. You could make a strong case for right tackle Eric Winston and Brown over Long and the Jets’ D’Brickashaw Ferguson. Brown didn’t complain about his individual snub, and said he understood he hadn’t consistently had years this good in the past.
Still, he wasn’t pleased the entire group was overlooked.
“Definitely, it is a slap in the face,” Brown told Jerome Solomon of the Houston Chronicle. “I think we’re one of the best O-lines in the league, and for not one of us to make it says something. We already have a lot to prove, and this just adds to it.”
Brown and Myers were named as alternates. Winston congratulated them on Twitter without mentioning his snub.
He didn’t complain, so we will for him. Top to bottom, the Texans have the best line in the league.
