I suspect his overall arm strength is lacking and he appears to play short? He is listed at 6’2 but he plays more like he is all of 6 and doesn’t see well over the offensive line. Thus, the roll outs.

Just curious that if Mr Griffin is availble at number 3, they don’t make a move. If they do, he will not be sitting on the bench as a development player thats for sure. Only then will we know the Vikes assessment of Ponder.

I guess Frazier doesn’t care about winning. Otherwise he would start Webb…

Wrong. This isnt the Philadelphia Eagles, who only care about winning regular season games. Frazier is thinking about years down the road, when Ponder can do something relevant.

Trade away Ponder and Jared Allen. I honestly think you could get a 1st rounder or elite player for each of them. Convert to a penetrating 1-gap 3-4 defense like Houston uses. We are in a passing division and that is what we need to stop our opponents.

Rebuild the team around Joe Webb.

This year he outplayed Ponder during the pre-season. Also in his regular season appearance he has shown signs of development.

In my eyes he is clearly further along than Ponder. The only thing up for debate is who has the greater upside.

At this point it looks to me as if the coaching staff and personell department are trying to justify their reach in the draft to get Ponder.

There has not been a true open contest for the starting QB position. It is just the people responsible for drafting Ponder looking to protect their careers.

I believe that Webb will develop into a starting QB… it just won’t be with the Vikings.

The Vikings gave up on Rich Gannon too early? Really?!?!?!

He was 27 and had been in the league 6 years when the Vikings gave up on him!! He didn’t even have a good NFL season until he was 34. By that account, the Vikings just need to give Christian Ponder 11 more years to develop and they’ll be SuperBowl bound! Woo! Can I buy my tickets now?

BUT!!!! He will not be successful until we get a solid O line that has worked together for at least a year as it takes time to develop chemistry on the O line so each person knows each others responsibilities and traits. I highly doubt Ponder is going to be the next Brady or Brees, but he COULD be a solid QB such as Hasselbeck or Romo (No matter what you say Romo is not elite). But the key is to have a solid O line that gels together. That will take at least 1 or 2 years. So peeps, don’t get your hopes up, we’re going to be a .500 team for at least a couple of years.

He has made more mistakes on the field than Joe Webb.

i think the vikings have finally figured out the Rudolph is a superstar TE in the making, and Shiancoe is useless.

Ponder on the other hand has the tools and is VERY reminiscent of another Vikings QB from the early 90′s who had similar potential by the name of Rich Gannon. The Vikes gave up on Gannon way too early and in turn had a carousel of QB’s to follow.

Gannon went on to play in 4 Pro Bowls, be named Pro Bowl MVP twice, be names AFC player of the year 3 times, be named the 2002 NFL MVP, start in Super Bowl XXXVII and set many NFL records.

Ponder WILL succeed in this league whether he plays for the Vikings or not. Webb on the other hand will be a career backup at best.
